Inspiring Conversation with the Craftsmen at Balance Brewery & Blending
During our Manchester Tour with Matthew, we visited Balance Brewery & Blending. We chatted with James and Will, who are true craftsmen when it comes to barrel ageing beer.
Nestled in the Railway Arch in Manchester, their tap room has an old-school, very comfy and inviting feel. The real star of the show is the beer. James and Will have perfected the art of barrel ageing and mixed fermentation and developed a unique house culture to make their beer out of this world.
Founded in 2021 by Will and James, Balance Brewery & Blending is the only brewery in Manchester focusing exclusively on producing mixed-culture, barrel-fermented beers. These complex beers are fermented and aged in oak wine barrels.
Their beers take time, spending at least 6 months, often more, in the barrel before being blended with dry hops, fruit, and foraged ingredients, all sourced from the UK. The ever-evolving house culture of wild yeasts and bacteria brings complexity, nuance, and balance to our beers.
