The 360 Video is OUT now: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nf-xOUcyAfo.html - Watch this on Oculus Quest 1 or Quest 2 as 360 video reference.
Nice video! How do I find the 360 sample in my Oculus Quest2? I tried searching in youtube app but it's not listed, and I can't click on the link when in the app.
@@lc307 You can save as Watch Later playlist - and then it will show up on your RU-vid VR app watch later playlist :) I am uploading the Oculus TV version now should be up in a moment :)
Best channel out there for all sorts of action camera! Imma get onex2 for sure simple and easy to use more feature than go2 and cheaper compare to Ricoh Theta! thanks Sifu!
I've followed you for a long while now, and i REALLY love seeing how much your RU-vid videos have improved! It's so inspiring to see the effort you put in to deliver quality content to us. Thank you for an awesome video review and comparison. Your intro title is amazing :)
Finally, some good unbiased review of the Insta360 ONE X2 with comparison to its proper competitors and not some four year old camera. Nicely done and I look forward to watching part two whenever that comes out
The insta360 One X is my favorite 360 action camera. They added most of the things i wanted with the One X2, waterproofing, front screen, better audio & longer battery. True, they didn’t improve the chip... but I will definitely be giving my One X to my brother & buying the X2.
You’re the best (and hardest working, least BS, most modest) comparative critic by far Hugh! Spatial audio is very welcome, but where is the Insta360 EVO 2 for VR180? The Quest2 demands higher quality VR180. I also would’ve liked to see the iPhone12 Pro shoot VR180. (P.S. nice burp.)
Quest 2 specs is way too high - you need K2Pro or 2 RED to really saturate the Quest 2 resolution - it set the bar high now for display now camera need to catch up - it is always a race lol
Thanks Hugh. Why have they not updated the image capture internals? It seems as if they are "sweating" their existing hardware and trying to give the impression of an upgrade by using software. Couldn't the software simply be provided to users of existing products like the R? I'm a bit disappointed by this release and feel it doesn't live up to the hype. I think now was the time to bump up the resolution. Even on promotional videos, I think the resolution is disappointing - I don't know how it looks on the Quest 2 (maybe it is more impressive there?) Perhaps if the Qoocam did not have reported workflow, overheating/ battery reliability issues, Insta would have felt compelled to do this. In physical (as opposed to software) terms isn't this just a One X that is waterproof and has better battery life. Given the age of that unit, I don't think that's good enough.
You also need to remember that the One X line is a consumer oriented camera designed to work with smart phones. If they increase the output by too much, some users may encounter difficulties editing them and sharing them on their phones and create more headaches for the company. Insta360 and other companies have better tools out there for professionals should they need them. As far as the One X line is concerned, Insta360 has addressed most of the other concerns of the first version. Aside from the waterproofing and battery life you mentioned, they also improved the mic (mentioned by Hugh) and they now have clear lens caps so you can use your One X2 without a case and still have some degree of protetection for the lens. There were already 3rd party versions for the One X but Insta360 didn't bother making their own. The output looks improved compared to the first version but if that's not enough for you, remember that the original version is only 2 years old. It should still be highly functional. If it wasn't, I would just stay clear of Insta360 altogether.
CreatorUp Thanks Hugh. VVC sounds like an important step towards 8k becoming practical. Presumably though these cameras could still get better sensors even if they are at the limit of practical resolution?
philaw123 Thanks - I take your point about phone editing. To be honest I fit into the camp of not being a professional but also wanting more than just social media content. I’m happy to edit on my Mac. Ideally I want to be able to leave my conventional video camera at home or at least not feel the need to take 4K footage on my phone as well as the 360 footage I need. I feel 4K footage on either side of the camera (8k in total) might be a turning point for VR and recapture. I couldn’t justify several thousand pounds on such a camera, so maybe I have to wait a little while for such camera. I thought the Qoocam 8k might be the product, but apparently it has issues.
It's weird to hear about your accolades and profesionalism etc. as the quality of your videos speak for themselves. I like that you speak both to those who will do a ton of work after shooting but also to those that want it to just be ok without much additional work.
you forgot to mention that video will be recorded in short sequences with X2 this is a huge deal breaker, because between sequences (no recording) and you will not get long solid video
I recently upgraded from the one next to the one r. And I got a Telya the user ability of the one hour is just not that good I like the handheld design of the 1X more. This has me debating on selling my one hour for the X2 I look forward to seeing your second video.
So far I don´t understand your excitement about the audio of the x2. Everything I have seen shows that is crap. Can you please explain a little more on this subject?
Well I have not did any extended test on Audio and their spatial audio firmware is not completely out yet - not sure why people getting them but the firmware is not stable - there is some fixing Insta need to do on their end.
If you look at this video - outdoor - it is clearly the ONE X2 has better image quality than MAX: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SynZalaiIzY.html
You are correct. Look at this video in 360 - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nf-xOUcyAfo.html - you can see the ocean way far on a drone shot - no camera can fake that - that is good distance sharpness! I think that is some lens magic to get that sharp
I've found a quoocam 8k for the same price as the insta360 X2. I've seen a lot of videos comparing the 2 cameras and I'm still very conflicted. I will use the camera only for kite aerial photography, attaching it to a kite and letting the kite fly high up and getting drone-like shots from high altitude. I want to get your recommendation on the better camera for this purpose. Thank you so much
Thanks for the timely review. As there is no megapixel upgrade in the image quality, what would you recommend for 360 real estate virtual tours? Ricoh Z1 or the new Insta x2. Thanks
The Z1 is better. More detail but more editing time. The X2 is a consumer level camera. Z1 is more for professional use. Larger sensor. He showed that.
@@hughhou I disagree the Pure shot upgrade is so much better plus the bigger battery -- ability to have a 2nd battery. You forget Theta is only internal storage and internal battery -- not for professionals that need to film for longer than 2 hours.
11:17 -- AI robots coming for your job Hugh! It's not just about not knowing Lightroom. It saves you money by not having to pay monthly for that Adobe Add-on. Also what Qoocam 8K did you compare it against? The enterprise or the original 8k? Sadly my QooCam 8K crapped out on me during my comparison but I still think it's Pure Shot mode beat them both in standard conditions ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-a__bxmYKizA.html
Hi! I'm planning to get a pocket cam and I'm torn between insta360 one R and one X2. I do not currently own any action cams and the one R's modular design is tempting. However, it appears that the X2 is more durable since it comes in one piece. Given that I'm not sure when and if I will be able to buy the 1-inch sensor lens for the One R, would you think going for the X2 is better than going for the One R (twin edition)? Is the One R's 4k lens a lot better than the 360 lenses given that you can use the X2 as a normal front facing cam? Thanks in advance!
Great vid Hugh! Got to say I agree with the Ambisonics audio being the best feature. I pair my Qoocam 8K with a Zoom H3VR, but it'd be nice to have it all in one for basic videos. and haha I went back and forth with GoPro about the Max a few times on the phone and chat and no one there could explain why the ambisonics was never extractable from the files lol 😂 at least Insta360 didn't make a dumb decision too!
Yes you need to talk to the enginner from GoPro - the sale don't understand spatial audio. Right now FFMPEG is the best way to extra it. The GoPro Ambisonic is actually not bad at all when you get it out. Def better than Zoom H2N as it is true 4 channel ambiX. H3VR will still be better - but so not practical and sync is a nightmate - fee like I end up using the in-camera audio a lot and Pro 2 sound like shit lol
It looks like a toy. We need professional recording codecs and at least a 1” sensor with 8K video with 360 videos. I hope manufacturers listen and ditch these kind of gimmicky cameras
Thank you for this video. I am quite disappointed and expected the One X2 got higher resolution, better sensor, etc. I will stick with my misphere, hopefully xiaomi will surprise us.
excellent video but where are the recording and stabilization tests in low light or at night? Insta promise very good recordings in low light but I haven't seen any of that yet
That is coming next !!!! Stabilization test is in my newest video along with 3D audio: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SynZalaiIzY.html - it is all in this series!
Ok it's a very nice review. Now because we are supposedly talking about an ACTION camera, can you please tell us if the lens are subject to scratch? if I install it on my helmet can I expect it to endure flies, bees etc? thanks
All 360 camera are subject to scratch unfortunately. But One R and One X2 lens are better than others as you see in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pxDOkQNFWjE.html
I did! Check out the ONE X2 series - right here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nf-xOUcyAfo.html and right here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ngy--hbTD3k.html
Many thanks Hugh ! Awesome video ! One question please : I'm planning a big trek in french moutains (2000 kms) and wanted to shot 360 pictures for Street View. But I'm in a dilemma : - Z1 is best for photography - ONE X2 is best for my trip (sd card, waterproof, better battery,...) Which one you do you recommend for Street View ? Z1 will have a huge difference for my use ? Thanks !! 🙏
I have a Qoocam 8k arriving tomorrow, primarily as a backup for my Z1 (recently maxed out memory during job) and as my primary video recorder. With that in mind, would you suggest the Qoocam or OneX2 as a backup/video camera and/or better value considering the price difference?
Thank you very much for this comparative test between the current 360 cameras, and this Insta360 One X2. I have had the Insta360 One X for 5 months, and I admit that this new version tempts me well for its waterproof side, and the screen very practical. On the other hand, as you say, to make 360 videos or photos underwater, you will have to add a box ... which they do not say in the advertising videos. Just like the GPS, which is still not integrated, and that you will have to use your Smartphone or the Insta360 Remote GPS to have this information ... it is a bit of a false advertisement, because they present it as if everything could be done with the Insta360 One X2 alone in your pocket ... New subscriber and 1 blue inch friend. Superb work, TOP.
Awwww thank you so much! There are other solution 360 camera on this channel you might want to check out has built in GPS and some underwater housing solution with the One R - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1SGshc9zIP8.html
I have a gopro max but I'm torn if I should buy the insta one 360 X2 just because of their editing software with the shot lab and what not. Do you think its worth it to get the insta one X2 or I'm just wasting my money since I already have the max? I'm just so mpressed with the AI editing of the insta one 360. Your thoughts?
I will not buy ONE X2 because of its AI editing feature. In my opinion, those AI shot lab effects are all gimmicks - you can easily learn how to do all of them with Premiere and After Effects - and the result look a lot better as well. You don't want your content look like everyone else b/c of 1 click button effects. Those effects - any 360 camera can achieve that - and if you follow my GoPro FX Reframe plugin tutorials series - you know you can do it better in 4K instead of whatever Insta360 mobile phone can render - which is less than 2K with very low res video. I will suggest save your money and learn to achieve the same effects yourself - unless you get the ONE X2 in different reason - like better stitching, stabilization and etc...
@@hughhou Youre awesome dude, thanks for your prompt reply. You're reply was right on. I just wish Premiere and After Effects has an option of one time payment purchase instead of a subscription. I will definitely follow your GoPro Fx tutorials! Thanks again and keep up the good work!
Hello, can u tell me how to get my Micro SD card out of the One X2 ?! It is place properly, but when I press on it a little, it’s a bit soft, but it doesn’t pop out anymore ?! Thx
I actually will use ONE X2 for the ease of use. ONE X2 surprising has better distance* sharpness - even sensor size is smaller than QC8K - but the lens Insta360 use is far better than GoPro MAX and Qoocam - so the distance sharpness got improve. Especially in low light - which is coming up in my next review!
Debating getting this for a Travel Camera and use the 360 mostly for reframing later. Was going to get a few extra batteries and a 1TB MicroSD. What are you thoughts on using it for that? Or would you suggest a different camera? I want to use the selfie stick at times, but also want to be able to attach it to a backpack shoulder strap or something for hands free
@@hughhou Cheers, appreciate the info, how small do you think you'd go? I'd like to get through a whole day of shooting ideally without worry before backing up. I'll be going to Iceland for the first time so the camera will be rolling quite a bit hah
Yes. That is the looping issue - I think you should just learn how to do shadow clone the correct way - using After Effects and Premiere - this is not new trick - ton of tutorials can teach you do a way better looping job than the Insta360 App.
Great review as always Hugh. Love the new graphics. I'm a little disappointed by the lack of increase in max resolution or frame-rate... Spatial audio is a nice touch though. Any news on the Insta360 Pro 3 or Titan 2?
Pro 3?! Where you hear that? I don't think they are focus on the Pro market at all now - need to make the $$$. But Pro 2 new firmware will give the camera a huge upgrade - it is coming.
Is it possible to make all reframe in mobile app, and then export it and apply denoise option in Insta desktop studio app? Also, could you test Topaz Gigapixel on X2 360 picture and compare it to Theta Z1?
Topaz AI will not generate pixel for you - if you capture in low res - it won't know the pixel to upscale for you. I can try but I can tell you from experience it still look bad. There are too much hype about AI - but machine learning is not magic - if the pixels are not there. AI can not guess it correct especially for detailed scene.
@@hughhou I have sawed some amazing results from Topaz denoise/sharpen app, albeit not from first hand, but maybe is worth trying. Do you maybe have pictures of the same place from Z1 and X2 to share so I can fiddle with it?
Absolutely love your reviews! Best VR cam reviewer bar none! Do you think I would be able to live-stream 360 video using this camera? Like...hikes or walking around live streaming using 4g network or 5g. Or would the Qoocam 8k and Richo theta z1 be better?
Thank you for this review. I love my One X, and this shows maybe I don't need to upgrade to the X2 right away. I was hoping in the X2 for some way to easily replace damaged lenses "at home." Your review did put me on to the Pilot One EE more than I had thought. Maybe I'll start saving up for it.
It is better than One X - if you have extra cash for the holiday - it is a great investment. But it is not big enough to justify an extra $430 you are absolutely right. If you have One R - I won't suggest the upgrade just yet. One X you do see has a huge jump in useability. Also the sensor is nice - you won't see it until you watch it in the headset - which is coming next - 2D video can not really show.
Thanks for the brilliant and detailed review video. You have been very honest with your opinions. I really appreciate that. Looking forward to more videos on the One X2, especially tips for photography. P.S.: Looks like the One X2 is going to be my first 360 camera.🍹👍
As usual Hugh you produce the best 360 immersive camera reviews. Not surprising as you are the RU-vid leader in everything 360. I have the GoPro Max that I fly it on Mavic drones to create immersive videos to view on my new Oculus Quest 2 goggles. Trying to decide if I can get better quality videos with the new Insta 369 camera (suggestion????). Looking forward to your part 2 video.
Part 2 will answer it. But if you have MAX - it is really close to One X2 - I won't drop any other $500 just to have a little bit resolution bump. MAX new firmware update also gonna make MAX even better - I will wait.
@@hughhou Hugh, thanks for the advice. How about moving to 8K with the Quoocam to get better resolution? I see that the Oculus Quest 2 can play 8k video. Perhaps that’s a better route? It’s not that much more expensive than the new Insta.
Nope - the bitrate is the SAME or in some case - lower than One R. I did that in my description on this video. As per lens H264 is 50Mbps - so both is 100Mbps. One R has the exact same bitrate in H.264. In HEVC - it is 21Mbps - so 42Mbps. GoPro MAX H265 is 100Mbps - so GoPro MAX has way higher bitrate than One X2
Hugh, GREAT VIDEOS as always, no bull and unbiased review. I wanted to ask you your opinion. I have the One R, and have a limited window to return it, I only take 360 images for VR tours. I am proficient with Lightroom, so .... wondering your opinion on which camera is better for typical interior 360 images.?? and why? Thanks
Return the One R and get the ONE X2 - X2 is designed for 360 - One R is more for everything and only shine when you have 1" sensor modded with backbone.
BIG THANK YOU, HUGH! Your Insta360 X2 is the ONLY video I trust! I was searching through the list for CreatorUp after 23mins it was announced. I did not even bother to watch others even though they are sharing the same device! Your content plus your experience with no BS it is what I am looking for! Thank you once again! Your Q on spartial audio, yes, I got it from your previous video. Looking forward to that on X2!
Between the one x2 and one r, could you answer, 1: could you get good results filming an interview/podcast with 360? 2: when would I ever use the 4k instead of focusing the 360 view? Most activities would include mountain biking, traveling, kayaking, and maybe video record podcasts/interviews (or just use IPhone 11pro)
What a piece of junk, the Insta360 one X2 !! Had I known from the begining that you need to connect the camera to a phone( in my case An Apple Phone because my $1'000 dollar samsung Note 8 that accepts everything refused to connect by bluetooth to this camera. Maybe you should make consumer aware of the pitfalls of investing in junk like this and not so much what a 360 video looks like.....( as far as tools go...) its garbage and can not stand on its own.
Hugh, I very much enjoy your videos. You really know your stuff when it comes to VR and 180/360 cameras. I have a question for you: I am purely a filmmaker/videographer. While I love VR gaming and I do own VR headsets, my main focus it to create films/videos. I bought a Insta360 One X and it was stolen from me. I loved that camera, but the replacement camera I bought, the Vuze XR, IMHO is not as good. In your opinion, which camera would stand nearly 1:1 with my BMPCC4K and ZCam E2 S6 footage? What I mean is, I want to use a VR camera (mostly in daylight) to film shots, including drone-like shots, and then edit after the fact and output to ProRes 422. The footage should be clear of noise and actually look good when viewed on a monitor or TV. I love that you can edit a VR video as if you were the director and could choose almost any angle to place your cameras and then render. I love that possibility. In your opinion, which camera has the best possibility of being used that way? I am not in the market for the $xxxx high end VR globe cameras. I love the slim form factor and invisible mode of these cameras. Thank you.
Hey Mike you are in the same situation as me. Unfortunately to tell you, to match with BMPCC4K (I use 6K and RED KOMODO) and E2 - you need a bigger sensor camera. That mean One X2 or even Qoocam 8K won't do the job. You will need Insta360 Titan (what I have) or just okay with 360 video look like GoPro quality (I use GoPro MAX as well - something it is just easy and people are okay with GoPro look - it is a creative choice in low quality POV or drone shot)
Hugh your content is amazing. So thorough and you cover everything! Thank you for being the best on RU-vid! Question: I’m looking for an option to fly on the Mavic 2 Pro. I like the resolution of the Quoocam 8k, but I worry about some of the production issues like the thermal focus issue. Have you run into these issues? It’s for client work so I need something reliable. It sounds like the Insta360 One X2 might be the most reliable with good performance. What do you think?
They are both pretty good in the least firmware - on the air tho, that extra pixel won't give you much different. Check this tutorial: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ypB2J_p1Ayk.html
Dude most in depth reviews I have seen yet.....As a prosumer photographer and videographer this covered the info I really wanted to hear and see. Thanks 👊
This has to have been a paid review from Insta360. The colors in the GoPro MAX footage looks so incredibly bad compared to every other review online, and my own experience.
