Social media has become an integral part of the lives of many. Indeed, it has helped us connect with distant loved ones and form new friendships. However, recently it has also caused some to fall in depression and feel negative towards their body image and life situation. This is partially due to the fact that social media profiles tend to portray an idealized version of one's life. People don't really post their struggles on social media, only their successes. When users of social media see an endless flow of perfected photos, they tend to compare their own lives to the falsified ones of others, and feel worse in comparison.
Photo editing has also gone to an extreme on social media. It has become normalized for all traces of imperfection to be erased through editing software. But with young kids consuming this media and believing these edited photos are real, the perception of beauty standards is skewed drastically. We can't make it normal to teach people that excessively edited lives on social media are the norm.
Even those with millions of followers feel unhappy because they become obsessed with receiving validation through the amount of likes they receive. When did this become the norm? Why can't we eat food or go to an event without feeling like we have to post about it?
We don't believe social media is not inherently bad. We also do not believe all social media influencers have the same experience as Brinlee. But we hope this story can raise awareness of the behind the scenes of a perfect Instagram life.
If there is just one person out there who can gain greater insight about the reality behind idealized social media profiles, then I've done my job.

OMG I love this! I used to live a life where I think i'm not pretty. My Parents tell me I am beautiful, but some people at my school look at me like i'm crazy! But this music video made me feel like I should stop pretending to be someone else and be the real me! Jenstine... Getting into Jenstine Universtine is probably a dream for all the stans. And this was honestly really inspiring.. my family see me as a happy kid, and I'm not a popular girl, I try to catch fame sometimes. I read the description and totally connected with it. I used to have TikTok, and I was so happy! However, I had these bumps on my stomach which I was insecure about. I ended up looking at my stomach a lot. I stopped looking at my bumps, but started looking at my stomach. I would see TikTok videos with body positivity. For example, they’d say stuff like “Go eat! You’re beautiful!” And when I’d see them, I’d think “Oh! Okay! Now I can go eat a ton of healthy foods, and I’ll look beautiful!” But when I came back and my body didn’t look how I wanted it to look, I got really upset. I would tell my parents how I felt, and they would keep telling me “Carden, you’re beautiful! Every body is beautiful. You’re strong, tall, gorgeous, and being honest, you’re 10 and you have ABS!!!” I would feel better for a little while, but I would still be sad. About 2 days ago, I ended up getting a little hungry. I asked my mom for food. Then she gave me some, while I was eating, I thought that I had been eating a lot. I stopped eating. My mom automatically knew something was wrong. She talked, and I said some words that triggered her. “My body doesn’t look how I want it to look...” she said, “Bring me your phone.” I showed her what was causing me problems, and I deleted TikTok all together. If you have social media, it’s one of the most toxic things. You can keep it, just be aware of what it does.

This is So true! I used to be So caught up with Instagram. I took pictures of food while my parents are eating and they're actually sick of it. I didn't understand them until my mom asked me to delete my Instagram. After some tears, I deleted it and somehow...i feel very free! Tbh, your videos are the best! Love it so much!

I watch ur vids over and over again thats why there so good! You are very talented and i hope you get lots of subscribers! You make me feel like i am myself and i dont have to look perfect! I have so much friends and i use to think i was a bad friend but then i noticed...im a good person after all i mean people argue when they wanted to sit next to me at lunch and so far٫ none of my friends tried to bully me. Honestly....This video makes me feel........better! My friends from a few months ago and my teacher well my whole class all had tik-tok even my BFFL!
