Back in the day my friend who was a mechanical engineer devised a safety trick to keep his wife’s Lincoln from being taken. He installed a ‘single throw’ push button behind the cigarette lighter well so when she locked up the car for the evening all she had to do was push the lighter switch in once to deactivate the ignition. Then when she needed to drive again she just pushed it again and the ignition was ready to function normally once again! GENIOUS! 👏👍🏼😎

Just do what Mr Bean does everytime he goes out for the day... he takes the steering wheel off and puts it in his little travel case and takes with him... great work Mr Bean. Yaaaayyyyyyy
I accidentally left my window opened, I think some body tried to steal the far airbag. In the process they damaged the honk. I only left the far for an hour or two. They're so quick.
My uncle who was a mechanic would remove specific fuses on his car when he would be gone for several days. It serves 2 purposes first reason was to prevent the battery from discharging. The second reason was to prevent would be thief to even start the car. Because even if you knew to hotwire it. Who carries around fuses😅
Over a couple days? Drain the Battery? 40 yr mechanic Here! If the battery was that damn bad He needed to Fix that problem not pull the damned fuse. There are much simpler ways to prevent a car from being stolen. Certainly from a "MECHANIC'S" Understanding
you can laugh all you want, but some places around the world this is a serious issue, i have an even bigger lock for the pedals (a metal block that covers all pedals, manual) with a built in multilock in it, as well as a steering wheel lock that covers all the wheel with a built in multi lock as well as a safe for the car computer in the engine bay and there still a chance it will be stolen…
@@ashleyhutton7046 i mean if your so broke you cant buy a car who to say you have money for a angle grinder but then again iv seen people do amazing things with there hands
That's a stupid idea, have you never had to speed up to avoid a situation or to be able to get over a lane to get to the exit. Now some type of governor, that limits top speed wouldn't necessarily be a bad idea. But you need to be able to accelerate. Im all honesty if you really have this much of a issue with your kid driving, your kid shouldn't be driving.
As a locksmith, I can confidently say that if someone manages to gain access to your car and can get the engine started, they have overcome far more security than this little Christmas cracker trinket.
Yeah and no. As you'd probably know there are a lot of cars that can be started by connecting a tool to the OBD port in the car to turn the alarm off then start the car and even program a new key and this can all be done in under 30 seconds and the tool to do all this can be brought online for only a couple hundred dollars so you've got literal kids running around stealing cars with minimal knowledge on how it's done because of how easily accessible these tools are to buy online these days so you'd actually be safer using old school methods to prevent car theft these days like a steering lock and a throttle lock like this but saying that it all depends on who is trying to steal your car as to how far they are going to go destroying said car to get away with it.
@kevinmckernan794 Yeah this isn't the best example of a solid lock lol I'm meaning in general it's getting to the point that the old style physical locks are a better bet than a lot of cars security systems/ immobilizer.

What does you being a locksmith has to do with this video?
I grew up in the ghetto where getting your car stolen was a regular thing. In the old days, my dad would pull the wire to the distributor cap so the car wouldn't start. This saved us once when the thieves did get into our car and tried to start it a few times. My dad heard them, grabbed his pistol, went outside the porch and shot in the air a few times. That got them to scurry the hell out of there in a hurry.
I had a '68 Cyclone that kept wearing out the rear tires, until I peeled back the carpet and put a 2x4 block under the pedal. My young wife complained the car wasn't running right so I hopped in and drove her around the neighborhood. She kept saying "Get on it, open it up! You'll see!" Tire wear mystery solved.😅
@captainobvious8665 installing a hidden switch and removing the relay or fuse are 2 different things. They might be able to find the switch. The fuse and relay being with you is another problem they can't solve unless they are carrying fuses and relays with them.
Back about 40 years when we had a Polski-Fiat 126, I took out the battery every night and took it upstairs into the apartment. Not that I was afraid of thieves.
Cut off wheel grinder… 38 seconds . The best thing to do is install a power cut off switch that only you and the mechanic knows. Now the next level is stopping tow trucks from stealing your vehicle.
There Is nobody trying to steal a car, who also conveniently thought to bring Giant lock cutting pliers, that can also Fit at the bottom of a foot well without being cumbersome, and not look suspicious doing it 😂
PUT THE SLEDGEHAMMER'S HANDLE IN BETWEEN THE PADLOCK AND SQUEEZE, THE PADLOCK WILL OPEN !!!!!!!!!!; OR GET AN IRON RODE AND PUT INBETWEEN THE PADLOCK AND SQUEEZE, THE PADLOCK WILL OPEN!!!!!!!!!!;! THIS MANUAL SECURITY CAR LOCK WAS COMMON IN THE 80s AND 90s. WE ARE NOW IN AN ERA OF ELECTRONIC CAR TRACKERS.@@kenojokoji
A smart person will lock the clutch in place so the person cant turn it on in first gear itself atleast realistically speaking (ofc the handbrake ideally too or both)
