I used to boot into a vhdx for quite some time. Was surprised by the performance I got; made no difference for everyday use. Backing up a single file in one long sequential read is also so much faster. Have u ever tried to boot a vhdx that's on a Storage Space? I was looking for a method to get around the UEFI's inability to see the drive/find the bootmanager on Storage Spaces volumes without a special efi driver like the Surface Pro 5 & 6 have.
Good video dude... been doing that since windows7 ?2009?? but with some GUI tools that leverage the process... WinNTSetup and the most excellent BootIce... ;-)
Vhdx file from same USB will be very very slow. It must be copied and pasted to hard drive. The system boots from USB but redirects to the vhdx file on internal hard drive
No, it will be written to the USB drive directly. It’s quite acceptable if you have a properly functioning USB 3 or C drive. And the most important thing as mentioned, is to make a FIXED SIZE VHDX cause it will expand it on boot if it’s dynamic.
Great video! But it would be nice to remove the vhdx boot option from the regular windows boot. will it break anything if i just remove it using bcdedit?
