lol. I love how she never finished installing it. No left screw, no level, and she never tightened the wire screws. Still, it was a very informative video for those who are interested. :)
1) There is a back plate avail, to cover a larger unpainted area in the back. (I installed mine and it looks great) 2) Would of been nice if you leveled it, like the leveler showed. 3) You should of hand tighten the screws, so it doesn't wobble. 4) If you go to 0:32 you will notice the normal 4 wires: Red, White, Yellow, Green. There is also a fifth one I see, a blue one that is not connected to anything. Connect the blue to terminal C on the Sensi. Then go to the AC indoor handler and connect the blue wire to C on the control board. This will give the Thermostat power without any need for batteries. I use mine without any batteries in it. Thanks Dude! My blue wire was connected to B. There is 12v on green to Blue. Do you know if that is enough? I am replacing the original thermostat. It has 5 wires. Old style square box with 2 levers at the bottom. One H/C and other for fan. I wonder if I can put the blue wire on "C" and have it work?
@@jerryroberts5367 You need 24VAC. Confirmed by Sensi tech support. That is what's coming on the red wire from your main control board. The blue wire goes to C for common. It will provide power for the thermostat so it doesn't need batteries. So it's optional on this thermostat. Just make sure if you connect the blue wire to C in the thermostat, then you also connect the blue wire to the C terminal on the main board.
make sure to label all wires before removing them from the original thermostate. It would be a pain if you took it off without labels. The labels that you see in the video are provided by Sensi (and the app comes with instructions with how to do the install)
I had it with this thermostat. I am a do it yourself guy big time and all this thing did was give me trouble from the install to the wi-fi connections. This is not a well thought out product. It was on sale on Amazon for $70 which is why I thought I would give it a try. I am sending it back.
Why does everyone say she never leveled it? There's a level built in. What am I missing? Do I need to do something else besides the one that's already there?
If you look closely the bubbles in the level is not center. when you screw the thermostat on you have to make sure to hold it steady and on a straight line so the bubbles stays between the lines.
The old thermostat had 4 wires (no C) shown at 0:30 but the new thermostat had 5 wires which included the C wire at 2:33. Where did the C wire come from? A pretty important point that wasn't discussed.
Good point. I saw the compatibility of this device on the Sensi web. (4 wires from my existing cable), and it says: 'may need a C wire'. So....does it, or not ??
@@wholio50 I'd like to know this as well. My first two houses had no c wire. But my new does. However. I plug in the c wire and everything turns on except the exhaust fans outside. Which we're working fine earlier.
Sometimes if there is a wire that doesn't need to be use with the thermostat you have, that wire is twisted around the wires you are using and pushed back into the wall. That could be why some of us saw the wire not being used at the beginning being used in the end.
The narrator was in a hurry, did not level the thermostat which could lead some to believe it is unnecessary. Did not explain the connections and consequences of miswiring.
I have a old , I mean really old style heating control. Yep just 2 wires. With just as old mercury switch, hence just 2 wires. 28 VAC. The old mercury thing is just plane wore out. Most likely over 70 years old. It is connected to a 2015 high efficiency processor controlled heating system. Now putting wire controller in a 4 wire not a good option. Replacing and touching up lathe plaster is not the fun I like to do. The other thing is it does not need it. For those of us that have had a bit of EE. Some may have a question. Why fix something that works and works? Ruud has a furnace ( high efficiency) that only needs two wires. Why can't Emerson just make fancy looking thermostat that will make my wife happy and operate the equally fancy dancer heater?happy? not reaLLY.
For the love of God.. USE YOUR BRAIN - This video is for mounting the unit ONLY.. For the sake of time she is showing you the mounting of it... Certainly you should know to put the left screw in and level it the back holder. If you don't and leave it on the wall like the model did.. STOP RIGHT NOW and hire someone do it for you... You are dangerous!
