I’ve installed two. One thing I found helpful was to use a long drill bit to drill a pilot hole thru both inner and outer walls first, before the hole saw. This way if you cannot get the holes saw thru both walls from one side, you have a reference hole on the other wall with the proper drain angle.

Great video Pete but in the disconnect, the LINE is where you connect your power leads from the breaker, not the LOAD side. The mini-split is the load on the circuit and is connected to those terminals. You should also put some black tape on the white wires to indicate that they are being used as hot wires and not as common leads. I like your setting the studs into the concrete when you pored your slab. Makes for a much more solid mounting and you are one of the few that mentioned that there is a need of clearance between the outside unit and the building. I have seen far to many people jamb the thing right up against the building along with all the excess line that these newer horrible DIY line sets tend to have.

Nicely done Pete! I have been looking at the Mr. Cool mini-splits to upgrade the heating and AC in my house (the 25 year old central heat pump gave out last winter). I'm glad you did this video to the detail that you did - it will help me to decide if I want to tackle this myself or hire it out. With a dual zone, can you successfully run two different temperature settings on the interior head units. In other words, can two separate rooms have different temperatures without any issues? I've heard that on some duel zone mini splits, the multiple head units have to be the same temperature. Thanks 😊

Nice install, Pete. I am soon ordering an 18K single zone for a garage apartment. I plan on turning the lineset down the wall like you did rather than going straight out the back. This makes me feel better about installing mine now that I know that the lineset tail from the air handler can be carefully turned straight down the wall. Thanks again.

A great option... I made a concrete pad, but then I put deck blocks on that... and then strut mounted to that.... and the condenser mounted to the strut. It looks nice and gets it much higher off of the ground. Not to mention... my concrete pad is 6" because I though that I would be satisfied with that height, but I let the condenser rest on the pad (still attached to the shipping pallet) and I quite liked that height, that that is what took me to the deck blocks and strut.

We were having trouble earlier when it was getting over 100 degrees. I had heard about a AC water misting product. You put on the outside unit. It had been getting close to 80 degrees inside the house during the hottest part of the day. Now I can set the thermosthat to 75, and it stays. There are a number of videoes on You Tube. Where homeowners made their own misting systems. They hook them up to where the misters come on when the AC turns on. Cool N Save is what I bought. Before seeing the DIY videos on You Tube. They say misting will save 30 % on your electric bill. I know it makes the home cooler.

I shouldn't have to replace it but if I do, I'll just run a new line out the back wall. I just put the line in-between the wall to hide the lines so they won't be all coiled up outside.

Would you say that it's a good idea or just get one unit in the common area for upstairs and one unit in the common area in the basement of 1000 sqft each floor? Also, how would you recommend if in the multi zone unit installing on one side and in a rectangular lot and installing another unit on the other side. Would that require another Mr. cool unit outside? Thanks. I will wait for your response.

I would recommend a 9000btu unit per bedroom and one bigger unit in a common area like living room, kitchen area. You can do this with one multi zone outside unit. But depending on your room locations, you might need two outside units if your other rooms are too far away.

Finally got it up and running. The only delays we had was because we realized we needed some extra parts (I’ll list that below) ru-vid.comUgkxihMYiJNXcHdbH-7ihymsLz61l7jVyb5O . So we have a loft where our current hvac just couldn’t seem to keep cool during the summer. We have been using a window unit since we bought this house over 6 years ago (all the houses in this neighborhood were built in the 80’s and majority of the houses built like ours use a window unit). I hate window units because they are just so noisy and the one we had really only cools one side of the loft. I had contemplated upgrading our current HVAC, but with all the rising prices these days, it would take years before saving up enough to do that. With the advice of my father-in-law (used to run an HVAC business), he recommended we get an inverter instead. We thought we bought everything we needed, but there were just a few other parts we didn’t anticipate needing (which is what caused most of our delay). My friend and father-in-law did all the work to get it installed and running and now we have nice cool air circulating nicely throughout the entire loft. It is very quiet and even the outside unit is much quieter than our main HVAC unit. Saved ourselves thousands getting this.

these are way better than ducted systems. but 24k btu for 1100sqft seems undersized. here we use 24k btu for 200-300sqft and would require 8hp (72k btu) for 1500sq ft. yes in summer it gets 50c for few days. + no humidity

Do you think a 9000 would work well in 288 sq ft tiny house with vaulted ceilings in northwest Texas?

Great video for sure. But one question---Does the condensation line give a problem when run outside in the winter and freeze up, or is there only condensation from summer use?
@buckwilson4167
@buckwilson4167 Год назад
only through that line in summer; in winter, the condensation happens on the outside unit and it's programming automatically defrosts it regularly

I think I would have punched a hole directly under the air handler (the inside unit) for the drip line so that it has the shortest path with as few bends a possible.

Great info Pete. Have you read the fine print on Warranty? I've heard if you don't have it "professionally" installed they will void warranty. Seems counter to their DYI sales pitch but is what it is.

Yes I have and it says that a certified or licensed HVAC contractor not required for warranty on a DIY series units.

is that a slight hizzing noise at the compressor? i just installed my 27k 4th gen and theres a slight hizzing noise at the condenser. I sprayed all fittings for leaks and everything is good. Manual says a low hizzing noise is normal due refrigerant traveling back and forth.

Good job Pete! I'm considering putting in one of the units in my house. I'm wondering if they sell extended lines as I want to go through my garage (18') to the outside? Cheers!
@petebeasttexashomesteading
@petebeasttexashomesteading 2 года назад
Yes they do sell longer lines. Just make sure they are DIY lines. You can also go here iwae.com/ for more choices.

What if unit gets mounted on a raised bracket on the side of the house? The ones they sell for the units don't have the spaced away from the house. There isn't the recommended clearance.

Some people say that you need to pull a vacuum on the Mr Cool line. What did you do? And how is it running?
@petebeasttexashomesteading
@petebeasttexashomesteading 2 года назад
The Mr Cool lines I used are the DIY lines that are pre vacuumed. So there's no need to pull a vacuum and It's been working great.

I see condensation on the sound deadening tape where I connect the copper pipe ends near the wall opening. Are you insulating this part with insulating foam tubing or tape? I also see frost on the valves where the copper tubes are attached to the outside unit. Did you insulate these valves? Am I not having extra energy exerted for these occurrences?
@petebeasttexashomesteading
@petebeasttexashomesteading 4 месяца назад
I insulated the pipes coming out of the inside unit where they connect together and the pipes going to the outside unit all the way to where they connect to the outside unit. You will see some condensation where it connects to the unit but that's expected because it's cold.
