Follow these simple steps that will help you when installing your new sliding patio door: measure the inside of the rough opening and measure the door prior to installing and check it over fully. For higher moisture regions, place a blue thin water barrier on the sill extending up both the sides. Apply a triple bead of cock approximately 1-inch apart along the sub floor where the unit will be positioned. From the outside of the unit, place the pre-hung unit with assistance into the rough opening. Be careful not to disturb the cocking on the sub floor before placing the unit in position. The first step is to shim tightly using 2-inch shims at the bottom of the unit first, then install shims in the correct location and the proper sequence, shimming both inside and outside of the door. Install shims until there is an even gap between the frame and the rough opening all around the door. When placing screws to fasten the unit to stud frame, make sure you screw through the shimmed area and stagger your screw installation from left to right side.
Test the sliding operation of the door to make sure it works correctly. Scar the shims with the razor knife and then snap them off flash with a frame face and then cock the ends. Insulate any gap between the frame and rough opening with low expanding foam. Install the interior trim around the frame unit. Install the hardware according to the manufacturer instructions. Once the door is installed, remove all the stickers and clean the glass and install the screen. Also check the door functions to make sure it is functioning properly.
