What a milestone! I never thought that this day would ever happen and certainly not by myself. However with some decent research and some helpful phone calls to the technical department this Sargent system has worked out great for us.

Hi, if you thought that video was fragmented, well that’s how most of us work. I love your channel and you explain things in a way that a novice like me can understand. I have just bought a van and am starting the conversion with absolutely no previous experience in any of the skills needed, but your videos and a few others have given me the confidence to give it a go. Thanks for taking the time to make the videos.

Be aware that the wall switch (assuming it's rated for mains) will usually say 'ac only', dc may arc more and could potentially weld the contacts.

We have the same unit also a 15 plate Sprinter. We're using a 12v fridge direct to the battery. How are you getting the signal from the vehicle to the Sargent unit so the battery charger works? Thanks in advance, David

Used the same in my camper No worse at changing than my split charge system in my work van Plus it kills the lights correctly when the engine is started

Tim, brilliant work, as usual. Time's getting tight! No worries though. No one's going to remember that anything wasn't ticked and tied. What Jo and the girls will remember for a lifetime is how incredible her husband/their dad is. I don't know if Father's Day is observed in the UK, but it's tomorrow here in the States. So, one father of two daughters (mine are grown) to another, Happy Father's Day, Tim. Also, "youth group"? My respect of you just grew beyond a level that I thought was already topped out! Well done sir. Those children/students are lucky to have you leading/serving. Now, get out of town and have a wonderful time!

Hi Tim, I'm trying to fit a sargent unit now and wondered if you installed a relay for your fridge to only come on when then the van is running - this is what was in the sargent schematic - you say in this vid that you are running your fridge straight in - could you explain a little - would be very much appreciated.
@TheRestorationCouple
@TheRestorationCouple 5 лет назад
No. Compressor fridges need direct feed from battery. The Sargent supply is for 3 way type.

Thanks so much for the swift reply - especially on a Friday evening. I take it there were no issues with the battery running down quickly then - do you put in an isolation switch??

That looks a really good set up , I agree a pre made plug and play is certainly neater and it does give peace of mind. Does your van have a smart alternator ? Trying to get my head around that with a cetek at the moment . Great vid and 10 out of 10 for your little helper.

There is no way you would have got the 240v mains working if that expert hadn't been on hand. :o) Not to be picky Tim, but your videos appear to be getting shorter and less detailed. Still love watching them but I am also hoping to learn from you. Even your mistakes are useful as I will no doubt make the same mistakes otherwise. The van is coming along great. Many thanks for your hard work on these videos.

Doing a fantastic job of your van..I've watched several of your vids recently. I hope my build turns out at least half as good. On a side note, I work for Sargents, building the main looms and this is the first time I've seen someone using one of our looms in a build.

The Restoration Couple To be fair, I never see more than the wires and also some the moldings with the terms, so things like the consumer unit are a mystery to me .. I'd say if it all works, you've done a good job 😉 Enjoy.!

I would not cut back those unused 12 volt circuits. Instead install them a extra power points and there are always more things added. On my 50' boat all my wiring problems are from the add ones by previous owners. But it is 44 years old. And as we change to LED lights all the Micky mouse'ng is reveled; 10 Amp loads on speaker wire. the old guy Bert
@TheRestorationCouple
@TheRestorationCouple 6 лет назад
When i said cut back I just meant that I would shorten and re crimp. There will be a few spare feeds which will just be taped up and tucked behind so plenty of scope to extend like you suggest.

So you're not using solar power and wiring it all, you have an 'all in one' type deal? You dint mention the company or that this was a video involving this unit to get 240v. Majority of us dont have that setup so .....yep

Note: This ec155 unit CANNOT charge AGM leisure and most GEL batteries. The charge is too low and will damage the battery. I was told this by Sargent support.

Got 12 volt lights in my ceiling and they keep going out with brown outs of surges. they want to solar on a 12 volt capacitor onto the wire of the light, it may not work read their body language well. Can i change the 12 volt to 240 lights
@MichaelNolanUK
@MichaelNolanUK 6 лет назад
It may not be an issue for you but if you run anything from the load terminals of the epever solar controller, watch out that it's negatively switched (and common positive). I originally had one installed but appliances would complete their circuit via an earthed appliance. I swapped for a different model that's positively switched (and common negative) and it works fine. With the Tracer A, it appears orange buttons are common positive and blue buttons are common negative.

hi does the charger switch on top have to be on to supply 230v to the rest of the van. The reason I ask is that I want a similar set up but want to tie in a 230 inverter so can use 230v when not connect to electrical hitch. I want to to use the rcd on the sargent to save additional wiring. But dont want to loop back to the batteries through the Sargent charger.

im really struggling with this system. I've got a black and white wire that doesnt seem to go anywhere. The brown and blue to leisure battery ends at a fuse with no wire to goto battery, did you have to buy more? All those orange and white wires, did you use them all/ where did the all go? 'Light feed' vs Front/ Rear lights, wtf, what did you do there? Thanks
@davidjcoupland

Hi, I've just had the same question about the black and white wire. From the instruction book it looks like it's the negative feed from the fridge. Hope that helps? D

Rather than using the unsightly metal brackets fixing the false wall you should have fixed two long block of wood behind the false wall so you only have four neat screws through the false wall into the blocks. With the supply to your unit you should have made a cover for the back of the battery housing and fitted a couple of re-settable circuit breakers. 1/ They make it easy to see if a circuit has tripped. 2/ Easier to reset and no need to find a spare fues of the right rating.

I also have the Sargent EC155 system in my van (Sprinter). Plug and play is almost correct....I have bypassed the built in split charger with a VSR between starter and leisure batteries. I also installed a separate 12v fuse box because the Sargent psu isn't suited to a 12v compressor fridge. The control panel is great as are the fresh and waste water tank level sensors. The 240v side is more than adequate with lots of expand-ability for me in terms of water heater etc
