This panel can put out close to 100 watts ru-vid.comUgkxOqI2yqX0XVrhR2BMJciTWrHJpG8FhJyg when positioned in the appropriate southernly direction, tilted to the optimal angle for your latitude/date, and connected to a higher capacity device than a 500. The built in kickstand angle is a fixed at 50 degrees. Up to 20% more power can be output by selecting the actual date and latitude optimal angle.The 500 will only input 3.5A maximum at 18 volts for 63 watts. Some of the excess power from the panel can be fed into a USB battery bank, charged directly from the panel while also charging a 500. This will allow you to harvest as much as 63 + 15 = 78 watts.If this panel is used to charge a larger device, such as the power station, then its full output potential can be realized.

EMT is pretty standard on roofs. PVC will expand and contract a lot on a roof leading to breakage. If you mean RMC as RMT then it's overkill.

I am mounting the solar panels on a barn roof that is 180 feet away from the house due to roof issues on the house. Your installation is exactly what I am planning so given that, would you mount the combiner box at the barn location or would you run the panel wires to the house and mount the combiner next to the House disconnect and circuit breaker panel? Thank you and I concur, this is one of the few videos with an incredible level of detail, great job!!
@SolarEngineering

Hi, if you are going to have 2 strings from roof to combiner box, then mount it at the panels side (you'll need to run less wires). If you are going to have 1 string, then you could mount at any side. Also it's recommended to mount combiner box at shade.
@TheTiffbobby
@TheTiffbobby 2 года назад
Very good, and yes I will. I can very easily mount the combiner box in the barn just as in your application you mounted it in the garage, one more question please. @@TheTiffbobby NEC recommends that voltage drop should not exceed 5%. Enphase - 2% (raise/drop). With 10 awg you'll have 2.73% voltage drop, most likely it's going to work properly. But to be on a safe side - I'd use 8 awg conductors, then v drop going to be 1.79%

The fact he said measure from the edge 36 inches means that they care about code and the what the plans dictate that they got permitted for. As well as the height of the rail. But sometimes roofs dip and wave with the integrity of it, so putting all the rails at 2 inches, sometimes does not work out as you will have a “wave” in the panel levelenss. I’ve learned it’s best to level with a rail across all rails and match the middle rails to the bottom and top rails.
@ryanxwrestling
@ryanxwrestling Год назад
They put their micro inverters above the rail, I’ve always put it on the bottom side facing down as the distance from the top rail and where the panel ends can sometimes become a problem if the layout and rail allocation is not correct
@ryanxwrestling
@ryanxwrestling Год назад
Side not again, you can tell about the roof integrity that it’s not the best nor the worst. You can hear all the grains breaking off the compilation shingles themselves and when prying it up, it took no effort. Important to know if you plan on re roofing your house before you put solar on it.
@ryanxwrestling
@ryanxwrestling Год назад
When putting the termination caps on I like to maybe take a little bit of the Omni/Q cable insulation off so you can actually separate the red and black wire to go into the allocated places in the termination cap, separating them, closing the circuit

I thought that the Inverters only had 2 hot wires (Red/Black). When the feed came from the inverter tie panel where the breakers were connected there was only the 2 Hot wires. When the wires came into the main circuit panel it seemed to be a 3rd wire (a white one)?

My California electric provider just installed a Tesla Powerwall on my house with an existing modest 2.6Kw of 70 watt solar panels(35) going through a Frontis 3Kw 15 year old inverter. I was told my solar inverter bypasses the mains breaker panel and is now wired to the Tesla critical loads panel. I'm thinking about adding more solar panel power via a 2nd array. I may or may not use micro inverters. Should I keep in mind that whether micro or another dedicated inverter for a new array of panels is used I need to connect the new inverter's output to the now vacated 30amp breaker in the main panel to be grid tied.? Or can I connect them to a breaker in the critical loads panel to feed the house in an outage along with the Powerwall. Also what is it tells an inverter to shut off in an outage. Thanks in advance.

What direction does the roof that the panels are on face? I noticed your neighbor had panels that faced in a different direction. Have you compared the output based on the two different directions?

Can you run power to your roof inside of your home in conduit to the roof? I don't do solar, but the home owner doesn't want to see conduit on the outside of the building. This is a new home we are wiring, but there is no attic. Thank you, Leigh Simpson

sure, you can run wires in metal flexible conduit in attic.

@@SolarEngineering There is no attic. It would have to be run in the walls.

I was speaking with a solar installer in northern Illinois, and I may have misunderstood, but I thought he said they wire from the central inverter directly to the smartmeter all on the outside of the house, such that then there's no separate wiring from the inverter to the main breaker panel. He said the main breaker panel in the house is never touched. I am right that it can be wired that way?

Sounds like Line side tap. Yes, it can be wired like that.

Great job but that customer really needs a new roof

Need to take into consideration the roof’s life expectancy. In order to recover the roof, will have to disassemble the entire solar array and then rebuild the array with new material due to existing corrosion issues.

agree, it's installer's job to provide this info to the owner, and the owner do a decision.

Absolutely working in solar for 6 years now, if my clients roof only has 20 years of expectancy left, for their own good I make them get some work done or replace it :). Great point Mike

thats the main thing with roof setups, you have to think about when youll need to reshingle and what extra work its going to take to do it with a large solar setup.
@darwinjina
@darwinjina 2 года назад
Yup. It can push that 10yr payback to never due to the roof replacements. (Especially in sun scorching areas)

sir can this work well? power goes into the inverter then pull the power cable into the mcb on the far right then into the main source a Lvd goes to the 48v relay to trigger the relay Then the AC inverter goes to the relay via hole no Pull the cable from the MCB AC inverter output to the contractor so that the load doesn't pass through the relay then enters it into the ATS source B

When I built my system, I didn’t put or use any micro inverters. Seems to me you only need them if you’re going to have to worry about shading. I don’t see where you would have a problem with this?
@SolarEngineering
@SolarEngineering 2 года назад
in our area, we have to install either microinverters or power optimizers by code.

Could you not use a stud finder instead of compromising the shingle? It costs an additional $5,000 bucks to redo the roof shingles if they link down the road

Maybe I missed it, but is there a circuit that detects grid power? If there isn't any grid power the solar system should not be outputting any electricity to the main.
@SolarEngineering
@SolarEngineering Год назад
microinverters must detect grid before they start producing power.

As with any build one must build on a good foundation! Those shingles on that roof in the beginning of this video should have been replaced, very brittle.

I think that at minute 14:11, you make a mistake connecting the positive an negative wires inverted, I see the in the video, I don't know if I could see wrong!!

Greetings, and first of all thanks for sharing, my question is how much was the total for this project and if you are thinking of using batteries for when there is no sun?
@SolarEngineering
@SolarEngineering 2 года назад
I just helped with this project, so I don't know how much owner paid for the system. My rough estimate that materials did cost about $6000. I have my own system with batteries: check this 1st: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XpPdbo1LXEg.html and then I upgraded inverter: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Q9hmyFyQO84.html

Where did the neutral come from - Didn't see any white wires on the roof from the Enphase converters. Looks like you combined the grounds and call that a neutral? Thanks in advance for help. Great video
@SolarEngineering
@SolarEngineering 2 года назад
Neutral is going from the electrical panel into Enphase combiner box only, microinverters produce 240V and don't require a neutral wire. From Enphase to the roof going 5 wires (2 pairs of hot legs and grounding wire)

What program are you using to design the panels on the roof ?

Hi, thanks. I'm just using an online image editor. Took pictures from google earth, a picture of the panel, and joined it together. the editor that I'm using - canva.com
