This is exactly where I am with my ‘55 frame except I have more rust to deal with. Mine is a 2 piece frame so slightly different fitting issues.

The part of cutting out the frame would be scary. I'd be afraid of messing it up beyond repair.

Man Herb its a shame you got that old dude on his hands and knees working on that frame and the rotisserie in the back ground collecting dust.....
