I installed the bank manager in my RV and love it. I put an Anderson connector in my RV for the lithium batteries and I can easily connect and disconnect the lithium as needed. When RV is stored, I remove the lithium and use the batteries for other things, when boondocking, I reconnect the lithium for extra storage capacity. Lead stays in the RV all the time. Clark, you created a great product, thanks.
Thanks, I like your idea a lot. As RVa aren't used all the time and Li is fairly light. Add that to the fact that multiple BankManager/Li banks can be run in parallel you could move your RV li to your off grid house as long as the voltages are the same.
As to the Victron charge controllers, I just bought a 100/50 for $185 with blue tooth. There were a couple of places that had that price. Clark, you forgot to take your watch off!!😉 Good video Clark. Keep the good stuff coming.
Very clear. I don't need the BM just yet as I am still all LA. The one Lifepo4 battery I have is only used for the dinghy motor and so needs lots of charging when it has been used. However, my solar setup (which came with the boat) rarely gets the LA batteries up beyond Lifepo4 charging voltage for any length of time, so I use a second charger off the raw solar just for that. (changes coming as money permits) I did want to ask about the lifepo4 batteries with BT monitoring. How do they calculate charge Percent? I tend to bring this battery home and use a simple transformer based charger at 4a to charge and monitor progress with the app. What charge rate is micro charging? It looks like my 4a is called trickle charging so I should stop before 3.4/cell... answered my own question. The app calls 3.38v/cell 100%.
Watch the value of that load resistor! If mounted on wood and doesn't have adequate heat dissapation it can (read WILL) burn the wood. Luckily I was near my 3 ohm, 100W resister and smelled the burning cabinet before it actually caught fire. I replaced with 6 ohms on an aluminum plate mounted with 1" standoffs. BTW: I love my Bank Manager. Thanks so much for your quick respnse to my questions Cark.
@@EmilyAndClark I got mine a few months ago. It’s a 2012 so it was built before the company was sold and quality went South. It’s a blank canvas and I can’t wait to find the time to start doing your upgrades.
This video couldn't have came at a better time. I am just about done installing a Gen 3 in my travel trailer. I have solar, dc to dc charger and ac to dc charger if i run my generator. I set the dc-dc charger to 14.4v and a float to 13.2v which I'll change to 13.45v. Is the 14.4v ok? Let's say i go camping and i run the Li battery down and i leave in the morning to drive home and want to charge the battery with the dc-dc charger. I know if there is a different voltage from lead to lithium and i close the contractor there will be a massive draw. What do you think? I did put in three disconnects. One to the dc-dc charger, one from the lead battery and one for the lithium battery. I wanted to isolate things if i needed to . I was thinking that i could open the lead battery and close the contractor and let the dc-dc charger charge the lithium and let the gen3 open when fully charge. Again what do you think. Thank you
First off set the float to 13.3v If you leave the minimum POC for the Li at 0 the BankManager won't disconnect the li and it's ready to accept power when you drive. If you run your power system so low the BMS shuts down.... Well get more batteries!
Gen 3 boat video soon? Will Gen 4 handle up to 144v systems? My electric sailboat ⛵️ has 144v (motor) and 24v (head) and 48v (jet thrusters) Suggestions?
No you don't as long as your alternator runs cool enough. I have a video on that but I'm a moving truck or with one of those great big case units I don't think you will have any trouble. In fact dc-dc chargers cause more problems than they solve in my opinion. www.emilyandclarksadventure.com/bbms and emilyandclarksadventure@gmail.com should get you what you need. Also if this truck has a sleeper you should consider adding one of my AC units as well. BankManager, some li, and an AC unit and you might save a LOT of ideling hours $$$ If you do it let's talk, I'd like video.
