Hi Pete - very nice vid mate. Are units like the MPP Solar flexible enough to work with the lower voltage range of 12S or do the cells need to be reconfigured?
@HBPowerwall
@HBPowerwall 5 лет назад
They'll work but can't remember the lower voltage limit i know they are 63ish voltes for the new PIP inverters.
@mondotv4216
@mondotv4216 5 лет назад
Is that the upper limit? Lower limit for a 12S assuming you stop dischargjng @ 3V per cell would be 36V. Even if you played it safe @ 3.2V it would only be 38.4V. Nominal would be 43.2V and upper limit at 4.1V per cell would be 49.2V. Just wonderimg how much of a potential issue it is with Tesla cells, because breaking down the packs would kind of wreck the neat factory work.

disperses extra energy at 500ma as heat on the Watchmon Plus. It with external cooling that balance rate is much higher. This battery won't need much balancing every day to keep it perfect - i would guess less than a few minutes per day. An almost incalculable amount

Thanks for reply. Any other option to keep them balanced? Looks like if you connect them directly to top and bottom plate to each series of cells it should work?? Does that means for 10 packs I would need 60 Longmons?
@HBPowerwall
@HBPowerwall 5 лет назад
You would need to make your own loom and connect each longmon directly to the battery so each positive and negative lead was only running to on longmon.
@ahaveland
@ahaveland 5 лет назад
@@hogfish3881 If you had 10 packs connected as 12S 5P then you'd still only need 12 longmons. However, as they'd have to work harder to balance 5 packs in parallel, there's a chance you might need to add more depending on performance. In any case, you'd still be protected against any cell going out of bounds.

Looks like everybody is happy with batrium except me. my problems are: 1.- I was having a 2p14s system, but it was weak for running my clothes dryer, I move to 3p14s, test my clothes dryer everything work(consumption 6kW). Next day I start to smell like burn plastic, check my system the shunt was melting, my consumption energy should be by the time around 2kW. Batrium conclusion you inverter the polarity in the shunt. Maybe they have never install one shunt(heavy cables), I only disconnect the battery side on the shunt, so I can add my 1p14s to the system. Finally they decide to ship me a new shunt, only pay the shipping. 2.- With the 3p14s I try to add a new inverter(shunt inverter side). The batrium system fail, no lights, I find the shunt was making the watchmon fail, I disconnect the shunt the watchmon work again. Having a conversation with Batrium they were agree to ship me a 1000 amp shunt for half the price but they told me to send them picture of my system, they conclude that I have 3 cables connected to the shunt(cables are tight no loose), so the shunt get hot and was damage. All the consumption in the system still running through the shunt. I check the shunt when I'm using the clothes dryer and there's no excesive heating(the average temperature of the shunt is 85degress Fahrenheit. My conclusion is the electronic part on the shunt is the culprit if you know the shunt you know there's tiny cables connected to the electronic part, for me is an electronic fail, for them was an electric one(big cables) If I want a 1000 amp shunt I have to pay the full price. My recommendation is avoid batrium, you don't have a third party, they decide you make the mistake and that's it. My system is a lot of components(panels, breaker, charger, inverters, surge protector etc.) all these were bought through amazon, or ebay. When one of them fail amazon or ebay decide if was really my fault no the company that sell the product.
@HBPowerwall
@HBPowerwall 5 лет назад
You had three cables attached to the shunt? That's madness and of cause it will cause issues - you would have little thread left to hold it all down securely in my opinion. It's good to hear some feedback but mistakes are made i've made a few - you suck it up an move on. If you're not happy still reach out plead your case - ship it back at your expense so they can see the damage. It's not hard to tell if it's user error or a hardware issue.
@JoseGarcia-px9xj
@JoseGarcia-px9xj 5 лет назад
when I did this I bought a screw the same material little bigger about 1/8 of an inch bigger so I was sure have enough thread. The probe(no bad electrical connection)is the I have nor removed the shunt, all the current still going through the shunt. When I use my maximum power consumption appliance(clothes dryer), I check the shunt for excess heat, the temperature of the shunt is around 83 fahrenheit degrees
@JoseGarcia-px9xj
@JoseGarcia-px9xj 5 лет назад
@@HBPowerwall the regular screw the comes with the shunt is only able to secure 1 or best case scenario 2 cables, I bought a very expensive, little longer screw(1/8 of an inch longer), the same material as the one the comes with the shunt so I can keep my cables mechanical tight to the shunt, and they still working(I have not remove the 3 cables)

For people that can't learn things through osmosis or read minds what does "a little bit smarter" mean?
@HBPowerwall
@HBPowerwall 4 года назад
It's a smart, programmable BMS - you could for instance turn on an air conditioner when the battery reached 57v and turn that air con back off at 56v or turn fans on at 25.6deg c and back off at 25.4dec c. Trigger a shunt trip to shut off your SCC if one of the cells exceded your programed high or low temp setting or voltage settings. You could control a EV car charger via CANBus or inverter. You soon will be able to control via MQTT - the list is stupid long but you get the idea

Surely it is way cheaper to use Jack Ricards evtv boards instead of the Batrium? He uses the Tesla boards that are already on the battery, and then extracts all the info that they usually provide to the car via the CAN bus. You can also link up lots of the modules if you need to go big!! He has been concentrating on 60 and 100Kw systems, but has just done a smaller setup for RV’s, Boats, and small cabins!!

@rogercrier
@rogercrier 5 лет назад
Yes, I might be wrong then☹️ The $2500 is for a built unit though. I thought it was as simple as a 2 module battery harness for$50 and a battery controller board for about $100 blutoothed to a display of your choice! I just fitted a Batrium system to a pair of 48 volt batteries I have made from re -configured Chevy Bolt modules. Each battery is 14S3P using 60Ah LG Chem pouch’s 28 longmons and a watchmon 4. to do both batteries in a string, but bloody delicate wiring for a farmer to own🤣🤣🤣 Completely off grid. It works fine to his Victrion inverter, utilising a solar panel array, a diesel generator, and perhaps a hydro system in his river some time in the future .... While I was wiring it all up, one of his chickens buggered off with one of the link wire looms!!!! Got it back though, but a close run thing.

Wow this is brilliant! The Watchmon Plus seems like a nice compact solution for a 48V battery pack! Just one question, the screen you are using could just be any PC or smartphone or tablet connected via wifi to the Watchmon Plus right? You don't need any other centralized module? Also using the Tesla battery packs was exactly what I was looking for. I want to build a solar powered trimaran. Still not sure if I should go with LiFePO4 battery packs or cheaper tesla or 18650 battery packs. LiFePO4 lasts longer and no need to build packs. But by the time I need to replace them, much better batteries will exist and will probably be considerably cheaper. Used Tesla modules seem to be the best choice right now. Thanks for the nice an short video!
