There are rubber grommets on the firewall of both sides that you can poke a hole through and Run coax or power wire. I’m using RG 400 tuned jumpers from 350 radio which I would imagine is not too far from you. Damn freight shakers love to go back to the dealerSMH. Where are the rubber grommets located I’m in a 2022 daycab cascadia and this cheap factory installed coax sucks as well as the antenna mounted on body up behind drivers door thinking about the mirror mount from Wilson and using my own coax Thanks!!
I bought the same LMR-240 ultra flex, probably from the same company you did I know you’ve mentioned their name before. I had lots of problems also, was quite a learning curve. Took a lot of patience and many tries to finally get it to work. I am impressed with the quality of cable just not the install of it. Hope your ankle gets better! Thanks also for the content it was a breath of fresh air! Life can be complicated.
Thanks, and yeah maybe it's just a learning curve, but couldn't get the inner shield to peel off the Teflon core, the pl259 was getting stuck on the outer jacket, and the outer tears easily. I just don't know it's worth the hassle.
@@jrichtruckincbtips yeah you have to buy the right pl259 they have different sizes. But yeah my problem was it was grounding out. But even the ones I found were still tight. It is worth it after you learn but it’s like learning to ride a bike you fail a bunch at time.
I've been doing CB since 92 I've done installs on cars trucks big trucks for 15+ years.... I always run the power wire directly to the battery... never tap into the fuse box or anywhere you'll get ignition noise or some kind of fuse box noise... and if you don't well you got lucky
Not that I couldn't or haven't, but this shows the people that maybe don't have the tools or know how an easy solution to power a big radio. Fortunately there's no noise.
Great video. Just wondering if you have any plans or have a dual antenna installation video I’m in a freightliner Cascadia manufacture date 11/23. Just barely put 10,000 on it. Would love to get a Stryker or bigger CB. But my understanding is that those are more than four watt radios which would require me to have my amateur radio, license. Currently working with the 29 LX. Thank you.
The Cascadia only works on the driver's side antenna, the passenger side is for the am/fm radio. I doubt anyone will bother you pushing more than 4 watts.
Nice video man, I removed the overhead trim and was able to put my 655hp Stryker up there then reinstall the trim. Your way looks easier but I hate stuff on my dash lol I’m too OCD!
Hey man, all the best to you in the tanker world, Ive been considering it myself. Ive seen that you have mentioned coax types and your experiences in a few videos and it always brings something to my mind that I learned from a ham radio channel. Apparently there is a big trend of very crappy Chinese coax being on the market that either uses non standard coax names that can be mistaken as the legitimate coax spec names or even if they use the accurate coax naming conventions the materials actually used are total junk and they measure with very poor performance and/or break easily. It sounds kind of goofy, but these days you gotta make sure you get your coax from a reputable source

Hi there. I just purchased some good coax. Times Microwave LMR 400 Ultra Flex. It’s about $1.20 per ft. I had them put on the good coax ends as well. I got mine from the “The Antenna Farm”. Super fast delivery. This coax is amazing. Make sure you get a good stud as well. I got a Tram. I forgot what model number. I run a Stryker 655 with a Browning wire antenna. Amazing.
Brotha these videos are really helpful..I only wish i would have discovered them, before i started wasting money..lol..I have a 2012 Cascadia Condo sleeper..I bought a Wilson Mirror mount perch, which is flimsy and must go..At first i tried a Wilson 5000 antenna..No way in hell could i get the SWR down, even bought a 22" extention no help..Then i heard you talked about a SKIP SHOOTER..So i got a 6ft, and screwed it in and BAM PERFECT SWR right out of the gate..This is a Single im running..It seems to get out great on my little Cobra 29..However 6ft is a little shy of the roof line..Now im wondering about a 7ft, and how much that may improve my reach??..Ive got a better (Non perch) mount, and want to run duals eventually..Should i bump up to a 7ft, or is 6ft plenty??..I ask because im going to purchase another antenna, and wonder if i should order 2 7ft, or just another 6ft to complete the mission..Sorry for being long winded..And thanks again..B
They say height is might, but with the Skip Shooter you need to get a 3' piece of 3/4" cpvc pipe to side over the bottom half of the antenna. The flex of the Skip Shooter is it's down fall and will break in about a year if you don't use the pipe to control the flex. I’m having problems with my new bb 29 XL, having antenna warning and high swr they Mach same frequency on channel 1-40-19 can get it lower or better than 2.5 or a little over 3 I only have 1. antenna Wilson 2000 what I need to do to fix it?
Hey JRich just wondering where you get those quick disconnects can’t find them anywhere? Also do you replace the wire going into the radio or just use the stock?
You can find them on Amazon they are a 6ga-10ga quick disconnect. That radio I used the stock wire because it's 10ga. If you have a Cobra, Stryker, Connex or something that uses the 3 pin 14 ga wire. I have a video coming to upgrade the power cord.
Would you recomend using +/- terminals under the hood of my 2018 p3 generation going to the fuse box located behind the glovebox power a Stryker 447 vs the stock cb power supply?
@@jrichtruckincbtips I have a Stryker 655 in my International with the stock CB power wire that came with the truck. BUT…I did upgrade my power wire from the radio. I got the HD power wire from that CB shop in Phoenix, Az. You recommend it in a previous video. It made a world of difference in voltage. My voltage only drops to 13.0 on full power. I'm running around in a 2020 cascadia and have a 29 ltd classic, I bought a driver mirror bracket and a 5ft firestick plus a 18ft coax. Installed everything and mounted firmly to mirror, issue is i have a nasty 8 SWR. I'm thinking i need a ground wire ran to fix the issue. Any thoughts? I ran coax through firewall then up the frame next to air horn then over top to cb housing.

@@jrichtruckincbtips it is slightly leaning, is that a issue on the 2020 cascadia? Plus I havnt ran a separate ground yet but soon. I was not using an external meter but that is my next purchase.
I don't know any cb shop that will do it. But it's super easy to diy. Start with the grounding that I do in this video. @@Shockey_ 1. It's all in those 2 videos. 2. Bonding will help. 3. Grounding or bonding may not cure the root of the problem. What's antenna(s) are you using? Still using factory coax? Has the antenna(s) been professionally tuned?
@@jrichtruckincbtips i ran new coax(rg8x) to one side of mirror have a midload hustler tuned at 1.1 but but times my swrs go up and down grounded my mirros nd i cant get more than a mile or two went to drail got my swr tuned
I've got a question hope you can help. So in my cascadia when I key up my mic my AM/FM radio cuts out (stays powered on) but the music quits then when I let go of the button it comes back on. Do you know what might be happening? This is a peaked and tuned radio BTW
@@jrichtruckincbtips yeah mine cuts all they way out and it seem like nobody can hear me. I'm gonna try running the power direct to to positive and negative on the fuse box and see if that help. Can't go to the batteries because that would be to difficult because of how the truck is set up. I just refuse to run without a radio.
@@markvaars37 I said what mine does and see where I run power from. I do know I am heard. Remember being heard also depends on the other person's radio as well.
It's a Freightliner Coronado, I've had the antenna in the factory location (high on mirror), then low on the mirror hoop, then went to the top grab bar on the back (this worked best)

Just saw it, I haven't messed with the 102" whip enough to point you in the right direction. I suggest, if you have Facebook look up this group "CB radio help! Also buy, sell, and trade" and join it. There's tons of people more knowledgeable than me on the subject. People also sell new and used amps there, and can point you to exactly what would work best for you.
