Finally letting the cat decide for herself if she want to come in or out every ten minutes.
I would recommend using a grinder with metal cutting wheel instead of the reciprocating saw. My cuts ended up too jagged and the grinder would leave the cut smoother with less denting from a skipping saw.

Glad it helped! I would use a grinder to cut the metal door if I ever have to do it again.

Doorway supposed to be placed 4" from bottom of door, so cat doesn't have to army-crawl through the door.. but oh well

You are correct, a few inches higher would have been better. The door steps down on the other side so it is a 4 inch drop. If I did it any higher the cat couldn't get in.

Hi, I would like to install a cat door in my steel patio door with a glass window. There is 8 and 1/4 inches between the bottom of the door and the bottom trim of the glass. Would you know how close I can cut down to the bottom of the door and glass without affecting the integrity of door or glass? Thank you.

There is usually a steel frame which is about 1 inch tall going around the door and Windows. If it is only a six inch door you would be fine.
