Thank you so much for the coverage on the trim/overlaps/caulking. I was concerned about what to use, but PVC board makes the most sense! We have a window in our shower, so we'll be trimming it out with PVC board. We are DIY'ing it all because of our tight budget. This information is saving us so much!

Thank you, big help! I like how you used the adhesive caulk to mount this. My plan was to use roofing screws with rubber washers. This seems (no pun intended) like a better way to go.

Really good vid. No mugging, no endless talk about lifestyle, no nonsense. Good presentation. I am about to do my second corrugated metal shower. The first one is OK but this next one should be far better thanks to your vid. BTW, your work shop is a mess. But what the heck.

We built a new shower in our master bath and did the corrugated tin walls as well. Love it! The only problem I have is cleaning the bottom edge where the Corrugated edges meet the shower. Suggestions? Thanks!

Magic eraser might remove the bar code off the pvc without damaging the pvc. You could use a piece of galvanized chimney or large pvc to create a shroud behind the escutcheon ring. I'm copying this idea to use in my shop. Thank you for sharing!

Gloves are not always a good idea. They can get hung up in a saw it other tool and actually cause more damage. When I worked construction I NEVER wore gloves when using saws specifically unless I was just doing a quick cut on a board and my gloves are fitted so they don't catch.

Had only a few cuts why not snips or big hand cutters. You didn't mention about wiping off the oil from the metal. Generally those sheets come oily. I assume you did. Didn't see entire vid, guess what I missed was the faucet instal, that's the critical part to me for no leaks.

Not counting the shower valve, and not counting the tile floor materials, under $125. You can tile, or buy a fiberglass floor like Dreamline.

why aren't these metal sheets waterproof enough? Why can't one have just ordinary drywall behind them?
@nickydoes
@nickydoes 5 месяцев назад
The air in a shower room is quite moist. In warmer climates, mold and mildew colonize in these environments. Also, building and insurance inspectors like to see certain materials that comply, even if they don't make perfect sense.
@keithlane7558
@keithlane7558 5 лет назад
Hi Great video lots of good information and ideas, for the corners do you think that rounding the corrugated sheet using it's own flexibility would make it more waterproof as you would not have any seams in the corners. what are your thoughts on this method to overcome the problem of corner installation. As I may be interested in using this material in my bathroom project. Keith
@nickydoes
@nickydoes 5 лет назад
You'd have to accurately bend the corners. Adhesive and silicone make a reliable, watertight joint.
@joymcarthur5429
@joymcarthur5429 4 года назад
Corrugated metal is harder to bend with precision than it looks. Also complicates measuring for hole where faucet is.

Like the video and use of PVC and corrugated. Did you consider rabbiting the back edge &/or bevelling the front edge edge of the pvc for water shedding? If the silicone seal between corrugated and pvc fails the water pools inside the membrane?
@nickydoes
@nickydoes 5 лет назад
The silicone seal will fail at some point, so your point is well taken. The membrane extends quite a bit higher than the PVC, well into the corrugated. Still, a rabbet or glued up step should reduce the chance of water ingress. It's a good idea for a follow-on video. Thanks!

Wondering if you can use a PVC Z channel for the drip edge at the bottom and skip that trim piece you scribed. Thoughts? Did you treat the metal to help minimize corrosion? I also have seen you can cut sheet metal with a wood blade installed in reverse, but haven't tried it yet myself.

Hey Nick! Thanks for the great video! After having it for several years how do you feel about running the metal all the way down to the tile? I'm going to be installing the corrugated metal in my off-grid cabin. the floor of the shower is a concrete shower pan topped with natural rock grouted tiles and was hoping to run the metal right to the tile with a bead of silicone. Also, how did you mount the corner shelf? Thank you for your time! Cheers! - Dan

I’m planning on doing this in my mobile home bathroom where there is already a surround in the tub that is not attached to the tub. Do you think I could just run this over that surround? It seems like it’s plywood with some sort of waterproof sheeting versus drywall. What are your thoughts?

Would this work over existing tile or do I need to remove the tile?
@nickydoes
@nickydoes 4 года назад
Sure. Use silicone tub and tile sealant, sold in 10 oz. caulk gun tubes. Space dollops of silicone about 1 ft. apart, on the backs of the corrugated metal. Press the metal in place. Lean a long 2x4 or something against the metal to hold it to the tile wall while the silicone cures.

What kind of nails did you use for the PVC trim at the top? I'm guessing they have to go through both the trim and the metal and still be long enough to hit a ceiling stud.
@nickydoes

I nailed the ceiling trim with 2-1/2 in 16 ga finish nails using an air nailer. It's important to mark your wall studs before drywalling the shower walls.

I centered the shower head opening on a corrugation valley. Then I did the ugly thing and siliconed around the trim piece. You could cut up some of the black edge insulation to make a block, glue the parts together, then carefully cut a hole through the middle, too.

Good question. The outside edges are not cut, and are not sharp. I glued the panels so the edges press to the walls. You certainly could trim them with PVC trim.

How to install this above your tub
@nickydoes
@nickydoes 3 года назад
HI Freida, the process would be similar. Surround tubs have a lip around three sides. It serves the same function as the gray shower pan liner in the video - directs dripping water into the tub. Cut your corrugated panels so they run from the ceiling to the tub, then install them inside the lip. Be sure to add PVC trim where the tub meets the panels. The metal edges are very sharp as cut. Also, the edges you cut have no rust resistant galvanized coating, so they will be unsightly after a while.

How did you seal around the shower faucet handle? Just caulk around your foam?
@nickydoes
@nickydoes 4 года назад
I sealed the top and bottom by compressing the foam. The sides are caulked. Take care in laying out where the corrugations will land over the showerhead and faucet cutouts. Those two should be vertically inline. Center a corrugation peak or valley over the vertical line. The protrusions will be more attractive and easier to seal.
