I dont believe gastite/flashshield is supposed to enter any appliance. Should it not be hard piped with a dirt pocket before the flex is hooked up? Might just be the code here in Canada.

IMPORTANT QUESTION: I have a new finished home without a fireplace. obviously the fireplace company I will call will have to destroy part of the wall to make holes. Will I need to wall other construction workers to fix the wall after that? Or does the fireplace company take care of all the damage needed to install the fireplace? And one final question: can a gas fireplace be installed at any exterior wall, or are there any conditions?
@ValveInteractive

Don't you have to have non combustible material on the wall between fireplace and wall insulation???

Many thanks! I'm building my enclosure for a GS36 now and was doing some due diligence and found this video - to see you installing the same exact model is amazing. I'll be rear venting through an exterior wall with vinyl - any thoughts on the best vinyl shield? Everything keeps pointing towards a DuraVent Product - thoughts? Also - I had black pipe installed and run directly to the center rear of my bay, now that I see the gas inlet is on the side I guess I just run flex around to the inlet and allow for a deeper enclosure, part of me wonders if the heat generated in the enclosure is a consideration vs. the durability of the flex line?

Your video was very informative. I bought a ventless gas heater, and I was wondering do you have to put cement board around the fireplace or just drywall... I'm not tiling around the fireplace.
@maplemountainfireplaces5648

Thank you Connie. It's going to depend on the specific clearances of your fireplace but most likely you will need to do cement board.

Can this be done after the house is handed over to us once it's finished by builder? They will rough in the gas line and the PowerPoint. Can I purchase the fireplace after handover and install it or is this going to be impossible? Please advise as they won't let us do anything if we're not doing it through them... Truth is if we were to do it through them, it would be too expensive 😏 Thanks

How come you do not have any fireproofing around the wood? I heard you have to have 4 inches of clearance around insert. Fireproofing is costing me hundreds of dollars around an existing old wood burning fireplace.

Rookies, you connect gas and electrical before vent and final set to test fire, you can not pass c.s.s.t. thru the fireplace body. It must be sleved or you must use a termination fitting

Actually as a fireplace Installer myself , you actually do vent rhe unit before you gas and wire it!! Otherwise gas can be opened up with no where to get outside rhe building and it must be secured so but to rhe installers top notch!!

I have a two-sided-view Napoleon zero clearance fireplace box installed on cement floor. It has flex pipe and I want to lift it a couple of inches and allow for flooring so the bottom access grill can still be opened. Does a full sheet of OSB or plywood need to be slid underneath or could 2 “ bricks only be placed flush under the perimeter of the box? Would anything go wrong with the flex pipe if this is carefully done?

B36 uses a 4"/7" pipe. Larger fireplaces by Napoleon will use a 5"/8". Interior pipe is the hot exhaust, exterior is the intake. Napoleon makes those kits for their fireplaces. There are lots of online dealers that sell them. Currently run around $350 or so for a basic kit with 5' of pipe and an exterior exhaust.

We are in the process of having a contractor install a similar Gas Fireplace. I am wondering why the Cool Surface System (CSS) is not being addressed in any of these FP install videos I am searching for. Isn't CSS critical to the install of Gas Fireplaces?

I need to make a comment on your galvanized pipe yeah galvanized pipe has gotten a bad rap years ago here is in 2023 well galvanized pipe has gone through a whole new process we've upgraded a whole new zinc process galvanized will not flake off zinc coating anymore so it is now allowed to use for all gas piping I've been doing gas for 45 years and now that is all I use is galvanized pipe it does not rust out like black iron do for all you black iron gas workers galvanized pipe is allowed to use in every state I hope that clears up a lot of questions on galvanized pipe

what if i have a fireplace installed with a gas line already but no electric ignition or anything like that? I just got a home with the piping (gas) and venting already taken care of but the owners didn't have the gas logs or wiring setup. How big of a job is that? Can i do it myself or should i call a professional? Also do i need a switch like at 4:47 or can I just light the gas with a standard lighter?
@maplemountainfireplaces5648
@maplemountainfireplaces5648 4 года назад
We don't recommend lighting the unit with a lighter or rigging anything up to the unit that has not been tested. The unit should come with some sort of ignition. The rest really depends on the brand of your unit. If it is a brand that we work with we would be happy to assist you further. We would just need pictures and the serial number. Our email is sales@maplemtnfireplace.com. If it is not a brand we work with we can help point you in the right direction.

I have a similar fireplace but to be more specific it is 36 x 36 by FMI gas vent. Can I remove the logs and place colorful stones in its place for a more modern look. Also I have a wall plate switch connected, can I just disconnect it from the old switch to replace the switch with a new one.
@maplemountainfireplaces5648
@maplemountainfireplaces5648 4 года назад
Hi Will, Great question. All units have been tested in order to be EPA certified, and not all gas fireplaces are created equal. We would recommend either going through your manual or calling the manufacturer/dealer to see what options they have for you. A lot of dealers will have ceramic rock kits for a more modern look, but a lot of rocks hold air and will pop once they are heated up which can be unsafe in an air tight gas fireplace.

How about the fire retardant that is installed inside and around the framing?
@dinojay8410
@dinojay8410 10 месяцев назад
Depends on your jurisdiction and applicable codes ... the manuals come with specifications for clearance between the firebox and the surrounding frame/mantel, etc. For our application we're using CGC Cement Board ½" thickness with steel framing studs. Insulation is a "rock wool" for 16" OC with Steel studs (2 × 4).

I have a question I hope you, or someone on here might know the answer to. When they installed our fireplace, it was put between two windows. Problem is, it isn’t placed equally between the windows. There’s about 1” or less on one side and about 4” to the other and everything on the mantle is built centered and evenly spaced. Is there anything that would prevent me from rebuilding the mantle and moving the fireplace where it’s even between the windows for any reason? Thanks!
@maplemountainfireplaces5648
@maplemountainfireplaces5648 4 года назад
Hello! You would want to check your manual for framing specs and clearances first. Then you just want to check your venting, gas line, and electrical. If your venting is flex it should be pretty easy to move but if it is hard pipe you may have to call them back to uninstall it.
@jrehr90
