In his Video I install a hydraulic main pin thumb on my John Deere 240D excavator. I had to air arc the old bushings out of the stick, machine a new hole in the pin, install it, and weld on the cylinder mounting bracket.

Interesting story for ya, the man who invented arc air gouging lived a couple mile up the road from me growing up in Fairfield co Ohio, Myron Stepath, was his name , we farmed his farm and he loved to booze it up while driving his Cadillac around the pasture checking on his horses

You need to make yourself a press on a trolley. Mount a 50t press on a trolley with a pivot arm so the vertical motion becomes horizontal. Then put threaded rod to go through the trolley frame to the back of what you are pressing. Chain will also work to a degree. Then press the bushings out with a guide pin or pipe. If youake the outer frame out of U channel, your press frame can lift and lower to the height you require using a simple chain hoist, or ratchet straps.

omg - no wonder you and Matt are mates - htf do you know how to operate all that machinery, especially that cnc machine - what a piece of kit. I'm in awe as to its complexity, more so you can operate it!

You don't know how many times I have done that with a stick welder and a high pressure air supply... Making your own exothermic burner Good stuff!

Just a heads up, we made puller out of 2 pieces of 1/2” plate and 1/2” threaded rod, plate on both sides to snug up the bushing and as i tapped the plate somebody was hammering the impact on the threaded rod. Zipped them in in no time but by myself i threw the bushings in the freezer for 20-30min and took no more than a good straight smack on a piece wood and the bushing fell in.

it's a little bit easier to get the bushings in if you let them sit in the freezer half a day or more to make them shrink slightly. Keep in mind that beating on them heats them up, so the more you beat on them, the harder it is to get them in.

With 6010 you can crank the amps and will cut out bushings- that’s how we cut out tubes out of boilers. One of the ways..

you should consider getting yourself a puller tool, don't know the actual english word for it but it's basically wide and thick hook screwed on to a semi-thick threaded rod with a very thick handle and a dumbbell shaped weight moving freely on the rod that hits the back pulling anything stuck enough out. usually you find these in car body repair shops pulling very bent stuff that crunched deep in to the car frame

We’d weld on a new threaded keeper like what’s on the thumb to the quick coupler, we noticed pins have a tendency to break and twist the ear in the thumb when they were drilled and bolted through the quick coupler, not saying it will happen with yours, but our apes always seemed to trash them

I always just cleaned out the best I could just cut with the torch knock them out clean everything up as good as you can throw the new bushings in the freezer after you got a bolt that would go through get your biggest impact you got you might have to make up your own washers just what's some good plate and drive a new ones home but I haven't watch the whole video yet

Oxy-acetylene always works the best clean the grease out as best you can warm it up on the inside and then blast your path in word so you don't destroy the boar everything will be clean when you go to put the new ones in

@rosshall641

I know you looking at the shrinking aspect of it but the heat will expand it meaning with the welder but cut a relief cut with a torch they fall
@haroldphipps3457
@haroldphipps3457 Год назад
After welding around the bushing, or internal bearing race, after the weld cools, they will shrink and come out easily!! The ONLY way to get bearing races out of aluminum semi truck or trailer hubs.
