Using that wire brush was something I would've avoided... Not the brushing itself, which was, I'd say, harsher than the job really called for and could've lifted the copper from the board if done carelessly, good nothing happened. What really worried me was a wire or a tiny part of it coming off of the brush (as they do all the time) and landing between exposed metal contacts, I know most of the components are insulated/covered with a thick layer of some kind of polymer in these ECU's, but still... I wouldn't want any kind of metal wires "swimming" in there.

Quarter horse, Jaybird Burner board, and the Memory Module. The memory module I used has been superceeded by the F3V2. Only one version of each available..

Can the tune be set up to run a targeted AFR?

EpicScandinavian If you run open loop you can set your data tables as you please. Yours is a broad question with no single answer. Closed loop locks you in the the standard 14.7.

Which software did you choose? How to use it? I have a 95 and want to do this...

Angelo Nicassio Well, you’re the first to ask the “How’d ya do it? That is a new video, and I’m getting past the “Blithering idiot” stage. See my channel for the “Dialing in the MAF” video. I’ll start planning a Binary Editor 101 video. In the meantime, go to Moates.net and EECTuning.org. There are four videos on RU-vid that are a Moates class too.

Lotsa Stuff: In RU-vid: Search "Moates Class" These videos should be your Bible In RU-vid: Search "MAF Sensor Tuning" In RU-vid Search: "Binary Editor" On the Net: eectuning.org Excellent Tuning Forum for Fords. Lots of experienced People. Tell them EVERYTHING when asking a question: Stock and/or non-stock hardware. Software and revisions. What you changed to hardware and software. THE MORE DETAIL YOU CAN PROVIDE, THE MORE LIKELY YOU"LL GET A QUICK RESPONSE. Stating: "Help!! My car won't start." won't get you any responses. efidynotuning.org This guys Good. Looks of DETAILED tips.

Hi ed . Nice video . Question .. why not just use a regular j3 chip .. what advantages does the quarterhorse over a normal j3 chip? Alao Have u done the video on the software side of things .. keen to see that too...

Short answers: I bought the Moates J3 chip and burner. I'll be burning my own J3 chip which is REQUIRED because the Moates Quarterhorse is battery backed ram. If the battery dies with a heavily customized engine, you are stranded without a new battery and computer to load the program. If you want to obtain ultimate performance, there is a LOT of CUSTOM tuning involved. Constant tweaking is involved. HUNDREDS of changes need to be made on a customized engine, especially a forced induction or larger displacement engine. Quite often you don't know you have a problem until the datalog tells you that you do. In my experience, factory tunes are VERY conservative. I don't know for sure but I suspect any J3 purchased chip would be very conservative as well. They don't want to be sued for blowing up engines. Having said that, improved performance is better than stock performance especially on a budget. If every time you change something you have to send the chip back for an update, you're going to be parked a lot. (OR buy TWO chips.) As to the software, I'm using Clint Garrity's Binary Editor. I find it EXCELLENT, and Clint regularly updates it. The software is very intuitive and easy to use. Now because you can make changes quickly and easily doesn't make you an instant expert in doing so. There is a LLLOOOONNNNNNGGGGGG learning curve involved. (Think MONTHS!!!) I may do a general overview of Binary Editor shortly. Yes, I'm still in that LONG learning curve on how to use it.
