+John Schroeder,mate you might want to watch it again,he most certainly did use it to tighten screws & I never said he didn't prove dead,it was a general statement endorsing the practice!
I would NEVER use a cordless driver on any busbar or mcbs as they have a tendency to overtorque ,bad things happen use a certified electrical screwdriver & prove dead before commencing the job. Be safe boys!!!
+Daniel Malik I don't think using the drill is good practice but he only used it to remove screws (not tighten) and used a screwdriver to tighten up correctly. There also is no proof that he didnt prove that it was dead beforehand
Pre-Paid meters are a solution for budgeting, but they are difficult to get changed out for a normal credit meter as the utilities make more money out of pre-paid meters.
the process that you told us is not declare why don't you use a mark wires or color wires how do i know the wires that you used to install the prepaid meter
Longer cables are better in case the owner decides to make changes to the set up of the panel board in the future. Professional electricians don't like working with short wires.
What was metering the electric before this? The mains cable is supposed to only be solid core? It's funny how easy this sort of thing is, and how apparently lax the regulations are that a video like this exists. Replacing the service cable in a US house is quite a bit different. It's commonly 4/0 gauge aluminum SER. The kind of thing you cut with a saw and just about can't bend with two hands. Is this 32A service or something? The wire is so tiny. Australia gets a lot right, but the electrical is a toy compared to modern American service. The normal 200A service is starting to get replaced with 320A, and that's split phase 240/120V. Literally 10x the power.
Frank You got to remember that Australia, the UK, Europe etc all use 230V so the current is halved. Its common in the UK to have a main 100A 230V service so just as much as your 200A services but the copper size will be literally half because the current is half. This is probably a 40A panel but you can still push almost 10KW with that.
Luc Mathlin The US uses 120V for outlets and most light loads, however the electrical service is 120V split phase. That means two live 120V conductors 180º out of phase and a neutral. Across both is 240V, one to neutral is 120V. So US homes that have 200A service, breaker the two live legs, for 200A on each phase, or 200A at 240V. That's 48kW assuming even loading on both legs. 320A service here is 76.8kW. Now, of course these services are not actually intended to run at those levels, and the POCO generally sizes the transformer for the load, not the service. My understanding is that Australia commonly uses 32A service on older homes, 64A on some newer homes. However, I still don't understand how this guy is adding a prepaid meter. So, the house had no meter before?
Frank I would guess its probably some kind of land lord thing to bill his tenants directly for the electric they are using or something along those lines.
+Frank i think all the loads are 220 vac many are 3 phase service // a 240 center tap is still single phase service // true 2 phase at180 degrees out is pretty much non extant
U shud hav slowed down at the part where ur talking about the terminals, ie, line vs load and positive vs negative. This part wasn't v clear - was straining to understand ur accent thru the background noise. Also, initially was unsure what u meant by "neutral," cause in some countries (like mine), they hav positive, negative & earthing. I suppose it means "negative."
Exactly my thought, rip off the circuit breaker casing change some wires, kablam free power. Not to mention all the bad practice Fixing the meter on plain drywall Cutting a hole into a wall right next to a electricity panel without checking for running wires, pipes etc. behind a wall Not checking if the current is actually gone (faulty breaker) Need to turn off all breakers not just the mains Using a cordless drill on busbar Using powertools on the breaker connectors Touching the metal drill bit while connecting to the busbar (it may be neutral but still) _Use of stranded wire (pretty sure I saw him twist it up) should always be solid core in applications like this_ nvm on that one why was he twisting the core tho? I wouldn't want this guy to do my electric work, and while the job itself looked pretty clean and neat putting videos like this on RU-vid will cause other to take on these bad practices, only a licensed electrician or someone who knows how to do it properly should make such videos, and if he is a licensed technician then shame on you.
Poor workmanship! Amateur! No use of PPE and not switching and locking up by the source! No use of correct tools for the different task! No use of danger tape! Using same colour wire for live and Neutral 😐! No need to install of big wire for the Neutral, because no big current going true, Never see the end product of the job! Prepaid meter in operation mode!
Meters should never be fixed direct to walls, a wooden board should be fixed to the wall first. I can't believe that the guy is actually using a spirit level, doesn't he trust his eyes ??
A prepaid meter is one that has an electronic key which you 'top up' by buying credit at a shop that has facilities for doing such. A credit meter records electricity used which you pay for after you have consumed it
@Ronnie G I thought you were allowed to but only to a degree? (as in there's a max charge per kWh that's allowable) Weird way to wire a meter tho, only 1 neutral... it works, but... wouldn't pass muster here in the UK
