Great piece of kit!! It's very likely someone has already suggested this but here it goes: How about the Tremalone is one single piece (3D printed studs and base) and the holes on top of the studs go all the way, this way, instead of removing the 3D printed studs and drill with a big ass drill bit, you drill with a very small drill bit and the tremalone works as a guide to make sure your holes are perfectly square to the guitar body. Cheers!!!

I think your trem jig is really great. The only thing I think might improve it is that you could put a small 1/8 hole through the center of the removable studs. This would give you a more precise centered pilot hole to drill your stud holes. Just a thought. Great idea. I hope you make a million 😊
@GretchZ

I was thinking the same. It’s not hard to add such a hole, but it is a separate step, and would be a bit fiddly keeping a round, plastic thing stable and intact. I can think of ways, but I’m getting annoyed imagining the tedium…

or you could go to harbour freight and get a set of center punches for like $ 20.00 and be very precise, a vex drill bit would also work

I used this on my blue Kramer Baretta. I drilled out the bushings carefully. I used a drill press, I'd recommend anyone doing this use a drill press. I also reluctantly routed my body using a compact router. The shims work well, they should be pre-drilled to make it easier. But I'm happy with the install. A machinist can make you hard metal bushings for perfect drilling.

Excellently thought out but I must suggest something. At 9:00, you are about to remove the two black studs. If these studs were hollow down through in the center, the installer could use a punch (provided of course) to accurately mark the true center. It would eliminate any guesswork and provide the exact location of the center to be drilled.

Fantastic Idea, especially for those that don’t have confidence in their ability to do this kind of upgrade, I have to say though, I really wish you wouldn’t put a bridge and block directly on the front of a brand new guitar with such a beautiful finish 🤣 man I was cringing watching that . 👍🏻
@SuperBeeA12
@SuperBeeA12 Год назад
Nice idea. A few suggestions would be to elongate the mounting holes so you have the option to dial in the scale length. You could also press in some 3mm drill bushings in the pull-out studs so you can start a 3mm pilot hole and know you are drilling dead center.
@davespin9034
@davespin9034 Год назад
Agreed. Could have some bushings machined easily to spec as mentioned ensuring perfect alignment. If you want double use your 3D printed studs, add a hole in yours. But for multiple use for a guitar tech I'd use a metallic material.

@@mrbojangles311 how so?
@jrg770
@jrg770 Год назад
@@davespin9034 Well the thing is, people have been installing Two stud floating Vibratos for about 40 years so there is already proven methods to do it without this. However the previous comment by @mrbojangles311 is referring to most modern installs recessing the bridge into the body rather than surface mounting the bridge.

Honestly, a great idea. The only thing I can think of that might make it even better is including a 12mm disk with a hole in it large enough for a center punch or a small drill bit, so those who aren't using 12mm bushings have a really easy way to mark the center for their drill bit.

I commend you on a really cool invention for locating the new Tremolo studs but I'm surprised you didn't think to create a router template to perfectly rout the tremolo cavity using a proper router and router bit. It would be easy to print one of those out specially if you figured out how to create and print your first tool. Hope you don't think I'm insulting you, not at all just throwing an idea out in case you didn't already think about it. Routing with a proper template and router will produce a much cleaner cavity and preserve the paint if taped off properly. Love the upgraded Kramer, those guitars kick ass and I really like the tool you created I build guitars and would love to buy one of those! Keep up the great work man!

I will be buying the 3D printed shims, much easier than shaving the head removing the hump and custom cutting a piece of maple shim. Something everyone should do before installing a floyd style top mounting nut is see how far off center the truss rod access is. My Gotoh nut caused the screw to blow out the wood wall of the truss rod groove. I had to make and glue in a custom bridging piece of wood with an arch to clear the Allen wrench access to the truss rod. This could happen even with this excellent 3D printed shim. As the saying goes, measure twice cut once.

What if you made the mount and studs out of metal? Then all you'd have to do is screw the mount to the body and not have to drill holes for the studs. Maybe even mount springs over the studs so they push the bridge back up. Then all you would need is a stopper on the block and no springs hooked to a claw. Hmmm? 🙂

I would say you could buy a template for like 20 bucks and route out where the floyd goes ,I mean your way probably works ok but if I was going to spend that much time doing this I would just get the template,and your way you can only do dive bombs , I mean my Wolfgang standard is dive only but it's still routed somewhat , and the locking nut is going to be an issue for people that have never done this type of thing because if you mess up where it goes ,new neck anyway I guess if you want to this you can but I would just do it right ,or buy a guitar with a floyd on it
@perkristoffersson4153
@perkristoffersson4153 11 месяцев назад
Why does it look like your template is sitting at an angle? One would assume the original routing for the trem block would be perpendicular to the center axis of the neck so when your template seems to not line up... It does seem like the template hits the pickup ring so it might have been a good idea to remove the pickup.
@QGMODS
@QGMODS 11 месяцев назад
It looks like this because you're watching a video, and because the bridge pickup is tilted. the template does not hit the pickup ring, but people that use these often remove them.
