Nice little bike build. From one Builder to another just a small tip in my opinion throw your cat back on your inner tube after you push it through the rim hole in your mounting your tire and it'll hold the inner tube in there for you. Loosen the nuts on your brake cables at the V brakes or the caliper and it will let all the slack back in and reset everything to 0 whenever you mount new levers or new calipers
Using a metal frame bike allows you to have more room on the axle to install the torque are because the frame is thinner, Aluminum frame are wider limits your ability to put torque arms on.
I'm ordering the 1000w rear tomorrow so can't wait, got a 55v 13ah battery, only had 250 geared motor before in front wheel, so lookin forward to a little dirtbike moped speed lolz, 30mph and more is insane on a bike, feels like 50😅🇬🇧🙏
@@ianmangham4570 That's a cool looking bike. Yeah hopefully it fits! I had to go with the smaller battery, because the larger wouldn't fit in the frame triangle.
Hi Ian, Just thought I'd let you know, my kits arrive (all fine) and today my battery arrives, it fits, tight but it's ok, you had me worried even though I'd cut out a template and checked, bit annoyed no battery bag, I'll have to order one (more cost, but stuff always winds up costing more I guess). Now I'm just waiting on some ordered 'Schwalbe Marathon puncture proof tyres' (£50 for the pair, well £55 with protective rim liner tape) -:also ordered some other small bits to help. My dad just texted me my tyres have arrived so tomozo I'll start the build.
I NEED HELP! My LCD started coming on the second I turn battery power on. It shows bn3.6 on the screen where the OD is. At the bottom it shows 900. Power is instantly available to throttle before I turn on the system via the "M" button. When I turn off the LCD via the "M" button I get "OFF" on the screen but still have power to the throttle. I contacted Voillamart and they asked for more details. I included a detailed video of the system but they have not respond since. Has anyone ever experienced the LCD doing this? UPDATE: I contacted Voilamart and they sent me a new LCD replacement for free. It was the LCD. When turning it on it will show the "bn3.5" for a second. So the other one was hung up. I went through a 10 second rain shower just before it started doing that. So wondering how water proof these are.
Glad you were able to get this figured out. It's great they were able to send you a new one. I had rain mess up one of my controllers once. Not very waterproof.
Maybe it's far fetched sure it's heavy but with how you test it sure looked easy to pick it up and carry it with you. In combo with one of those heavy duty locks on the rear tire/frame thing is dynamite
So yes, I've made the wires quick connect so that it's easy to disconnect everything and carry the bag with the components, That way I can securely lock the motorized wheel and frame for best security.
@@expedition-electric3549 I just starting taking my broken bike apart today it has a screwed up rear tire and you know what I'm gonna do now 😂😂. From broken bike to ebike I love it
@@expedition-electric3549 I'm planing for a 1000w 48v kit from voilamart or a similar brand and a unit pack power battery or something from bafang USA direct or em3ev
Not with this kit. You will need a kit with an electric sensor brake option. The kit I installed with a BBSHD 1000Watt Mid Drive Motor has an electric sensor brake option.
The Kits are usually around $250. amzn.to/3n1R9A0 the batteries vary greatly on price depending on the size. Here is a medium range battery for $280. amzn.to/3jL9WxG They tackle the smaller hills where I live. Not too many big hills here. The mid drive systems are known for their performance on hills
I did not install the PAS on this bike. The reason for this is, my friend's ebike did not have PAS as an option and I love the way it rode. So I decided to keep it off this bike.
Hello Justin, yeah it's been great and it's a blast to ride. Battery and kit have held up well. I did make the battery connections on controller easier to connect with the extra cords that came with battery. I also recently installed the pedal assist, but probably prefer it without pedal assist. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-x6HLDTmWsr0.html
You can also disconnect the little cables and take your expensive stuff with you thats amazing man. No need to worry about theives you just bring the backpack with you 👍. More ebike companies should do that.
I just ordered this, I live at the top of a big hill from the beach and would love to go to the beach everyday but the hill is brutal. hopefully this gets me up the hill now with no walking and pushing.
@@expedition-electric3549 at top of the frame where the gear cables are bare will rub threw the wires eventually. Gear changes might be tight with the wires tie wrapped tight to the exposed gear wire. I'd run wires under the top tube instead
I heard from many people that these cheap 1000w wheel kits wear out/break fast. A couple people said they went through 2 kits in less than 2 years without much riding use before finally buying a 3000w kit that lasted. They said the 2 kits were a waste of money and that in hindsight they should have bought a 3000w first which they said is more bang for the buck/more reliable.
Not a well balanced set up. You've got all the weight of the kit on the rear axle and it's top heavy because of your battery placement. I'd be reluctant to get on that thing, let alone put it through its paces.
The biggest problem with installing these ebike kits are the battery connectors, and every video I have watched on youtube have just skipped over this part. I wonder why?
The instructions that come with the kit are sorely lacking. I mainly came to see how to install the petal assist. But Thanks for letting me know I don't need it. Looks like more of a pain than its worth. Give me constructive feed back on this point please. I just got mine in the mail today. The torque arm for me was pretty difficult as I didn't have room for much on either vertical or diagonal bars. And putting it on the other non sprocket side requires me to unpin the harness fro the the wheel. But I really want to put one on that side. Also my derailed controls where thumb style attached to the brakes so I have to find a different system. I got the 20HA battery separately and it required me to kick the bottle, flip the battery and it sits snug under the center diagonal. Between the 20+ lbs for the wheel and the 20+ for the battery my kickstand is pretty useless. I had to figure out that the LED Display requires these 2 rubber round pieces and they need to be cut as they are just too fat. Then the tiny nut has to be placed inside the middle groves to give the thin hex bolt something solid to thread to. Prethread the bolt to make sure the nut is positioned proper. So ya they need to either link a video on the instructions or do a much better job on the manual. Was hoping to finish today but seems I will need another day to complete.
I’m converting a specialised mtb into an Ebike for the first time using a 1000w rear motor and I’m wondering if there are any tool kits I can buy that include all of the tools needed for this conversion. Very helpful video too this is the most in depth video I’ve seen on a conversion kit installation tutorial
I'm about ready to purchase a violamart when i watch your other video using bafang mid motor, i started looking up bafang and There's a big price difference, do you think if I use bafang would it justify the price difference over violamart
Hello Arnold, Did you check out this blog that shows the pros and cons? expedition-electric.com/hub-motor-vs-mid-drive-ebikes-which-one-is-the-best/ Both are good kits and both are very fun to ride. Lmk if you have any other questions.
How do I connect my battery to my motor? I've got a red and black wire from the controller and battery, but I don't want to solder these together as battery will not be removable What did you do please? Sorry I'm new to the ebike life and lost af
@@expedition-electric3549 you're a life saver for real, thank you so much. Exactly what I was looking for Thank you so much for the fast reply 👊 have a good day
Probably could. You can purchase motor hubs with no gears I'm sure. Then would probably need to pull gear of the the original tire and transfer to you motor hub tire.
It depends on several things: the hills or elevation, how hard you pedal, how fast you go, how much you weigh. If you stay below 15mph and pedal you will probably get about 35-45 miles with a 48V15ah brand name battery
Correct. Here is the battery I use: The 48V13ah battery. amzn.to/3hvkqzV In this blog I show you the wheel kit and batteries installed on bike expedition-electric.com/cheap-electric-bike-conversion-kit-provides-the-speed-you-need/

must be 50 different brands of the EXACT same motor on amazon and ebay, only difference is the packaging and types of connectors and controller they pack in, i detest the stupid massive battery cable plug they give u ,i binned that and bought some 12 AWG cable and quick spring connectors instead
TBH im not a big fan of the pedal assist on these kits, its basically a 'blip' switch, if you pedal it gives you full throttle, which can easily take you off guard and into a crash. The assist level display does not help either - when I tried using PAS, I found I preferred level 5 for the twist throttle so I had full speed range, but level 1 was more than enough on the PAS, especially navigating tight areas and passing people on narrow trails. Eventually i disconnected the PAS, found it much easier to control the motor purely with throttle, and leaving me with unassisted pedals for more delicate control of speed - its just as easy to just hold the throttle at a low position and pedal normally if you want 'assisted' pedalling.
@@expedition-electric3549 Thanks I ordered the tool. I have the Voilamart 1500 watt Rear hub kit coming in and I want to make sure I have all the tools b4 hand. Thanks again, some reviews show the free wheel, not pre-installed. I might swap my 7 gear from my Shimano. Hopefully it can be done.
@@expedition-electric3549 I ordered the tool and was able to remove my Shimano free wheel cassette, thank you so much. I connected the tool to my car tire iron while sitting on the tire, LOL it worked!!!
The background is made with a green screen. I've put a link for the one I use in the video description. Once you've recorded on greenscreen, Imovie and other video editing programs can take out the green screen using a chroma key
not a fan of u placing the cables right above bare brake/gearing cables ,itll eventually fray away the insulation and create resistance on the other cables from rubbing, im sure you prob changed this by now since its an old video
A big reason for the brakes is a safety feature similar to driving a car, you don't want to be driving with both feet. Hitting the gas and brake at the same time. With the kit When the brakes are hooked up, the power will be cut off to the motor the instant the brakes are hit. Without them, you may end up throttling while trying to brake.
its worth paying 20% more for the battery if it has documented proof it uses premium cells from LG or samsung ,panasonic is ok, anything else is garbage and will get voltage sag after 200 charges
