Installing a Wood Ceiling in My Off Grid Log Cabin

December 1 - I install charred pine boards on half of the vaulted ceiling in the off grid log cabin I'm building alone in the wilderness. For lunch, in a cast iron pan on the wood stove, I fry venison steaks in pork fat with onions.
On this channel, for at least the month of December, I'll be uploading almost daily videos showing more of what I do each day, and then at the end of the week, I condense those videos into one longer, but more interesting and relaxing video on my main channel, My Self Reliance. If you prefer the format on this channel, please let me know in the comments below, but also let me know if you think this ruins your viewing experience on the other channel each Friday.
I know the lighting is poor in this and a few other videos lately. I'm adjusting to a new camera but also working on lighting for filming inside the cabin. For daily living, I prefer the dark interior of the cabin, but I realize it doesn't make for the best filming conditions so I will fix this in future videos.

Watching you work on the interior is not tedious Shawn, not in the slightest. Watching it progress and knowing the effort and skill that you put into it is amazing. Thank you for sharing with us. I love how you explain your plans and then explaining why or if they change. So engrossing and wholesome. Your roof is obviously very well insulated for the snow to stay put. Thanks again.

We have a metal roof on our house and we ❤ it! The snow slides right off after the sun warms it up! We don't have to worry about the weight of the snow damaging our roof!

One thing that amazes me is how you have taken the knowledge gained through your interest in cabin structure and your previous smaller build to improve this cabin. Every aspect of the construction is assest then completed. So exciting to watch it come to completion. Such excellent work ethic.

Now I know why internal roofers always have an apprentice working alongside them, for the best part they are the humpers and lumpers. So every overhead job that needs completion has a standby pair of hands, just in case a nail or screw affixed into the wrong position, does not mean a trip to the local A&E Dept. Wow, that cabin is exceeding my expectations. I was visualizing myself moving into it. And I am the kind of woman that likes a little bit of glamour and the white leather sofa type of person. It has an amazing and wonderful energy. I haven't commented in some time. I subscribed originally to My Self Reliance over 3 years ago and have followed your journey/progress every week. I enjoy your current format, dailies, and then Friday's culmination of the week. I grew up in the woods of Northern California, Trinity County. I was 11 when we moved to Trinity, 15 when we left. My twin brother and I helped our father build a bat n board rustic two room cabin. That was 54 years ago. Your videos are reminiscent of those times, for me. Although your cabins are mansions compared to what we constructed. Your attention to detail is inspiring. Keep up the great work, and stay safe. Best regards.

Too many people just quit when faced with adversity and setbacks. You are a great example of using setbacks as an opportunity to step back, replan, and forge ahead with even bigger and better ideas. Imagine if all you needed in life to be happy was someone to throw a stick so you could chase it, lol. Dogs with a good master have it made, don’t they? Love the scenery, the almost finished product and the journey to get there Shawn, even you must be impressed looking back at moving all those heavy logs, skinning them, hoisting them in place, etc. Sure is a cozy place!
