Ģood morning Sam, nice install. I want to get a battery backup system as well for the same reasons. The main reason is that it can be recharged via solar thus not having to depend on a fuel that may not be available. Have a great day!

Absolutely. It seems a little paranoid sometimes, but crazy is only crazy until it's not 🤠👍

Thank you very much! I really enjoy the trades. I think I missed my calling for something for sure, but thank God I'm able to do it all now 🤠👍

I think your box is ungrounded. It looked like the NM wire went directly into the socket and wasn't bonded to the box or face plate. The ground wire from the face plate to the box does nothing to ground anything unless the box is connected to the ground wire in the NM bundle as well. The socket should be completely isolated from box, I don't believe it shares a ground with the socket. You should either tie into the ground from the NM bundle or run a dedicated ground from the box back to the panel/transfer switch and tie into the ground there.

Thank you for the advice! I will open that up and rectify that situation. That makes sense the way you described it. The ground on the inlet is grounded to the bar in the main panel through the transfer switch but I suppose the box on the inlet should also be grounded just like a sub panel. Thanks again 🤠👍

Great video I am the window remove guy and its a pain. I recently bought a large chunk of the same wire and with the leftover piece i think i will do the same thing.

Thank you! It really is a good way to go rather than through the window. Now that I have mine done, I'm pretty sure the power will never go out again, lol 🤠👍

There is another way to strip that outer jacket, Nick/ cut the end, score with a shallow blade and pull down to where you want to remove it. Then cut off the excess. Works great for outdoor jacketed wire as well. (Shallow is the key, just score , dont cut ). PS, if the ground is jacketed, green its 4 wire vs ground bare, 3 wire

Nice job on the install. How do you plan to run the batteries and the generator at the same time? Just ordered my Champion 8500w inverter generator yesterday. I was also looking at the Anker Solix power station.
@samsdoinstuff
@samsdoinstuff Месяц назад
@jjay718 I haven't yet pulled the trigger on a battery/solar system. The gas generator works great for now. If I kept both, I would wire in a switch to choose between the outside inlet and install another inlet inside. A backup for the backup 🤠👍

Also wondering where you got your transfer switch from? Seeing bad reviews from a lot of these companies or they dont have the exact parts I want.

@@jjay718 I picked it up at Home Depot. It's working flawlessly as of right now.

Did you put an elbow on the top of the conduit to the piece that comes through the wall?
@samsdoinstuff
@samsdoinstuff 8 месяцев назад
I did not. That section of wire is up in the joists where it's not in danger of being damaged. I also smoothed out the edges where I cut the conduit to ensure it won't cut the wire. 🤠👍

Sam, where the receptacle comes through the wall of the house and the downpipe to the unit meet. You looked at that area but did not video the connection. Something tells me the wires are exposed. The only reason I bring this up is that rodents can chew wires. Please don't take this as a negative comment; take it as knowledge.
@samsdoinstuff
@samsdoinstuff 8 месяцев назад
You are absolutely correct, but code does not require wire in ceilings or walls to be contained in conduit. The 6' piece of conduit that protects the wire takes it into the joists which is sufficient. Otherwise, all of the electrical wires in a house would have to be run through conduit. Great question 🤠👍

My Dad retired from the Electrical Union and used me as a helper when he did side jobs. I learned how to bend the EMT conduit and have used it in all my projects. I am 69 and have been involved in many projects over the years. @@samsdoinstuff

Hello Sam I'm alittle curious about size of generator to run 10 circuits? Also should it be a inverter type for new gas furnace and electronics through out the home. Thanks
@mikereimer4279

Sorry forgot to mention I will use the 6 circuit switch
@samsdoinstuff

Great questions, and I'd like to remind you I'm not a licensed electrician. That being said, I'm using a generator that can produce 6,500 watts of continuous power. That will power any of the heavy loads like the well pump and the refrigerator. I could even run an AC compressor if I wanted to. The key is to not run all 10 circuits at full load. Allow your key circuits as mentioned to run as needed and only use other circuits when absolutely necessary. Inverter generators are a much cleaner source of power and are certainly better because of that, but they also come at a higher price tag. Ultimately, I would like to run a battery backup system hooked up to solar for charging and use the generator to charge the batteries if need be. Hope this helps 🤠👍
