Pro tip... Strip 12" from a 20" piece of rg6 coax cable. Stick the bare copper through the drywall and locate it in the attic. Quick, simple, and if your location fails you have a hole so small you don't even need to fill it.

Easiest way is to use a stud finder on the ceiling and drill a small hole and put a glow necklace through the hole and you can always find it.

@@SPXLabs I pulled cable for years and used to cry when I had to do a run with my wire-fish in conduit because it always snagged on everything or I had to make it aerodynamic with tons of black tape to make it around the bends. :)

Lol yes. It does seem to snag a bunch and the tap definitely helps.

New at this? When all else fails, "READ THE INSTRUCTIONS!!" The smaller metal plate is for mounting on suspended ceilings as a "Back Plate" on the other side of the drop in panel as a support sandwich. The scary plastic cover is for use during installation to keep your grubby little finger print and dirt off the AP. SO! that when all done, it's bright white and beautiful!

Use a compass to orient yourself. Take a reading while in the room where you want to add the AP and use a marker point, like the light housing you were basing your installation point off. Then do the same thing when you're in the attic looking down at the same light housing. You can even use measurements based off the light housing vs. where you want the AP to really narrow things down while in the attic.

Hmm. Both my AC-Pro and NanoHD did well over 500mbit/s. I would say if your speeds went up from 200 to 330 with just stronger device, then maybe your config in not optimal. A properly configured AP should do way more than 300.

Aside from price I'm assuming this is almost apple's-to-apples with a Zyxel NWA110AX in terms of usage, my question is what all is needed to use them (in my case the Zyxel), I'm currently updating due to a semi-local lightning strike near my home taking my "old" Netgear out. Do I have to get another router (Netgear, ASUS, etc) or is just the XGS1930-28HP and the NWA110AX) sufficient somehow?
@SPXLabs

You would need a switch or router than supplies POE+. Or you can buy a POE+ adapter from ubiquiti to use it.

is it mandatory to install it horizontally and facing downward? is there any signal degradation if its installed vertically?
@SPXLabs
@SPXLabs 2 года назад
Mandatory no. Potentially yes because the AP is designed to be horizontally mounted.
@Snajdarnx
@Snajdarnx 2 года назад
That depends on your application. Ubiquity recommends installing it vertically if your are trying to cover a large area and you don’t have access to the roof, or if there’s no roof.

@@SPXLabs that’s about what I get or no signal at all. 2ghz comes through, but I just use 3 and balance them. My houses windows and the roofs radiant barrier, and insulated interior walls kills my signal. Going wider the 80 on 5ghz is a no go. 160 is actually slower. Have you experienced that?

Smaller ring is for drop ceiling tiles. Has been for years. Seriously doing a review for an item you don't even know about? You should also strap the data cable high along the attic cross beams and not laying across the ceiling beams hidden under the insulation, so they don't interfere with anything else in the attic. How many power cables did you cross running them along the celling floor?
