In this video, I give it my best effort to install a range hood and vent it to the outside, including the struggles, hiccups and mistakes along the way. This is the point of view of a Do-it-YourSelfer.
*Tip* *When you're in a tight spot like when you were tracing your duct hole, just use a few light shots of spray paint and the mist will leave a perfect outline of the vent instead of squeezing in there to trace it with a marker.*
Jenn you Scored once again! The men watching this are extending their highest Respect 🫡 and Admiration for your DIY skills! This is Girl Power indeed! Your enthusiasm and constant Smile keep us glued to your channel. Carry on…
When using a hole saw on vinyl siding (especially the large 5 or 6 inch one you had) If you have a pilot hole established, it helps to run the hole saw in reverse to just cut through the vinyl. prevents grabbing/ breaking/chipping the siding, I cold weather it's going to almost always grab and break the siding .
I really enjoy the fact that you take us through every though process and show how much difficulty you are having that eventually leads to success. Great job overcoming all the difficulties.
There were issues, you worked the problems ..you got the job done..that was awesome That's a beautiful kitchen 👌 Still amazes me how American homes are built though 🇺🇸🇬🇧
I've installed a fair number of these and the one lesson I learned the hard way is to put a piece of plywood over a ceramic topped stove. It doesn't take much to crack them. You break it, you bought it.
Jenn, I'm a 75 yr. old man, you asked if we were tired of you yet, Jenn my sweet nobody cares if you make mistakes or screw up, your Awesome, and I personally love what you do your Awesome........
I have over 20 years experience in construction and I must say that the poster board idea to extend your ductwork to trace your hole was a very good idea. So props for that, half of construction work and remodeling especially is problem solving
One of the most quirky, strangely edited videos I've ever seen. I love it! So refreshing, funny and creative. I'm so sick of slick over produced stuff, this was so much fun to watch. Range with a range of problems lol.
Good job ! I laughed when you looked around and saw the amount of tools and stuff you had out in the kitchen ! I’m the same way, I start out neat and organized then somehow all hell breaks loose ! Good video - thanks !
This is so genuine! It reminds me of when I'm doing something for the first time and things don't go exactly to plan, and I don't have all the right tools, and I have to improvise and figure it out.
Jen love the way you tackled the job ... worked through its pitfalls, always smiling and thinking out whats next. While using what you have to hand. That's the fun of fixing stuff yourself, together with the achievement of a great job done. Congratulations and thanks for a wonderful video.
I have a new found way of understanding women , and I’m 57! And in the trades for 38 years . The dedication of this lady ! May a man never cross her for there is not enough land on earth he can hide ! Lol
The fact that it was difficult to remove those tiles, is a testament to whoever installed them. If it's stupid but it works, then it's not stupid. Great work on that vent.
Jennifer, your fervent determination is what glows that makes watching you go through the process from start to finish. Einstein was quoted, "I don't consider myself smarter than other people, I just stick with the problem longer than most people." Regarding enlarging the 4.5 inch boring hole saw opening, or was it 6 inch? By slowly and slightly entering the hole with the bit on a rotating angle, you could have fairly easily bored/ reamed the hole larger, gently spinning the bit, gnawing it out, from one side or both. Bravo. Remember, if you can, the phrase, With what I've got now, what can I do now? You did it.
You done a wonderful job it's great seeing a woman that's not scared to get her hands dirty an not letting anything get in the way love your videos keep em coming
Thank you for your great video. You did an excellent job there. The video turned out very entertaining, educational and funny. Please keep it up and show us many more house repairs of this kind. Best regards from Germany.😀
Im sure this has already been mentioned, but there should be a set screw(s) on the mandrel for the hole saw that would allow you to extend the center drill bit. You needed to have that blade spinning before it contacted the wall to really work well…
Hi Jen, what a great job you did on putting that extraction fan in your kitchen. What a great job you are an inspiration to other young women. Well done Rob from Australia
Great job Jen, I like how you left the hole super tight, as it will limit migration of bugs and drafts. As a professional I could have told you what to do and what not to do, but we learn more from our mistakes. I didn't see many mistakes, just things I would have done different. Different, not better, as you did an awesome job. For those who didn't know, the digital functions of the stove / oven only work once you set the clock. Your clock has not been set for the entire video, which has been driving me crazy. When I installed a microwave over my drop in glass top stove, I kneeled on it and cracked the glass. It was under warrantee.
Nicely done! I would suggest for anyone else doing this, move your range out of the way first makes everything a lot easier. And a word of caution, if you're going to be leaving it in place and trying to cover the glass top to avoid damaging it, unplug the the stove or cut the power to the stove first, before covering it. Otherwise one unfortunate nudge on the controls for the stovetop and you could be burning whatever you put on your stovetop to protect it.
You don't get it This is not a DIY channel or something. This is just 2 things: a woman in yoga pants and tank top, doing cringe repairs. This is intentional.
but are you gonna send your dumbass gf in there with a grinder instead? you're here like the rest of us, she's cute and fun to be around it seems.@@xl000
You're a trip..sparkling personality..fun to watch..witty and beautiful.. you are not afraid to dive into your work..no matter what you do you rock ✨️ love watching you..better than cable 🤜🤛 keep it coming.. so delightful 😊
Just discovered Your Channel, and I gotta say, itwas a pleasure. I admire your taking on this job. No mean feat! Big Thumbs Up for Your hard work, compassionate souls, and clean dialogue. Much appreciated. Stay safe, and take care
Great effort Jennifer. Don't let the ba$!ards get ya down. Even if you were an expert there's always someone who knows better. Remember RU-vid has plenty of diy videos to show you ways to complete everything. 😉 Much love and encouragement from Australia 🇦🇺 ❤️
If you want to enlarge the hole using the same holesaw then you hold it at an angle uppwards in the hole, 20-30 degrees, and drill. One quarter of the hole will become larger. Then you tillt the drill downwards 20-30 degrees and drill. And then the same left and right.
Yes, I agree. The best way to enlarge a hole is by drilling it at multiple angles repeatedly. Lubrication on the drill bit is also critical. And always keep your tip sharpened.
Great to bask in the warm glow of satisfaction when you complete a diy job well!! You are learning good skills and work well, with care and determination, I'm impressed. Think yourself lucky you didn't have to do that here in the UK, where houses are mainly brick built with walls at least 9" thick!
Experiences are the best teachers. Great job and many lessons learned for the next project! Keep up the great work. ... Also, I can relate to those moments where you just found yourself standing and starring at the project. Many times I find my mind drifting in thought in the middle of those "what now" moments and times of hesitation.
You did a great job. When you cut the hole you knew it was a little too small, but you worked your way through it with a smile and grace. Silver lining was that the hole kept everything nice and snug. When you chalked it on the back side then around the outside edges, you did a superb job. I thought the way you did the insulation was just fine. I totally agree with another individual on the comments that you did a better job than some contractors.
As a carpenter and remodeler I say you did a great job! Slow and steady wins the race. It's not always about how fast you do it but the quality. I say you did AWESOME!! Blessings!!
Thank you for another fantastic video . As a retired carpenter and maintenance guy there was Nothing wrong with the job you did . Love a beautiful lady that can think and do for Herself ,keep up the great work
One little tip when using a hole saw attachment, most especially a very large one, get the pilot drill bit set precisely into the prescribed hole and hold it steady while you get the big round saw bit up to full speed. Then once the saw blade is spinning, then slowly introduce it to the work area you need to cut out. On a large hole saw bit, the only way you little drill has enough power to work that thing is by using the "built in" enertia from the fast spinning bit. Try that next time you use a hole saw.
I immediately knew where you guys were when I saw Cody and Blue (and poor old Lacy ...). Your edits with the cut scenes are a riot. :) And for doing a DIY task for the first time, you did spectacularly well!
Good video - great production values. You identified problems and found solutions to finish the job - nothing to be nervous about. I guess you will see ideas posted of how to do things differently but equally you can probably know/do other stuff that they can't. Love Gus - still think he deserves his own channel even though there are other dachshunds on RU-vid called Gus.
Great job m'lady .. I've done three range hoods and two clothes driers and I totally understand the struggles, hiccups, and mistooks of getting the hole in the right place. Mostly it's dyslexia and getting the hole in the mirror image of where I wanted it. Ha ha ha . Crazy stuff but congrats on your ladder technique too. Thanks so much for sharing your project. Aroha from NZ.
Any time I see young people taking matters into their own hands I'm impressed by that! We understand you're not a "professional" but you definitely have a "type A" personality who isn't afraid to jump right in, get your hands dirty and get things done which is great! You saved your family quite a bit of money by doing this project yourself...HOWEVER... having been in residential and commercial construction and renovation for over 40 years this should have been done when you did the kitchen remodel and I'm just curious why it wasn't finished then. You ran the wire or was it there from an original over the stove microwave oven? The kitchen looks beautiful, by the way. I really hope these videos that you're making will help inspire other younger people to get involved, roll up there sleeves and tackle projects like these on their own. It's not rocket science. If someone like me can do it anyone can and I've made a pretty good living on just this kind of thing. As my younger brother always tells me, "There's a RU-vid video for that"! I laugh but oddly enough, he's right! Just as a side note, wiener dogs are spastic and when he bit you in the butt I had to laugh out loud. We had one years ago named Judy (after Judy Tenuta) who was a spastic comedian back in the day. Judy bit my youngest son in the lip when he was just trying to play with her. 4 stitches later...
Great job gin you are a woman who can learn as you go and it takes being able to take things apart and putting them back together and that awesome meaning you can do anything you want to in life so just keep on keeping on love watching you fix anything and everything you need to
Your enthusiasm is amazing and done a great job Jennifer 👏👏👏you could do any job in my home 😉and you have the best work clothes I’ve ever seen 😊. Brilliant singing by the way 👌
Well done! I'm glad you worked out to make the hole bigger, while at the hardware store a sanding drum or half round rasp/file would have done the job but a jigsaw worked just fine! But you scared me on that ladder! Don't over extend yourself, if you have to reach at height stop and move the ladder.
I was thinking the same way about the sanding drum and wood file. Even just a round piece of wood with some sandpaper tacked/nailed to it. Got there in the end anyhow. Great job Jen 🙂
I just love watching your videos. You have a great deal of tenacity which really supports the quality of your video. Music is great and not to loud as most RU-vids do. Great job!!❤️
Jennifer, I give u credit for ur enthusiasm and efforts. Ur pretty talented. be careful not to give people advice on dangerous things. NEVER operate drill and power tools without goggles and having ur hair tied back.
Wow you did a spectacular job! You may have struggled with things you didn't know about but you persisted and got it done in the end. You are surely an inspiration to lots of other young women. Also, wasn't that Andrew Camarata and his dogs on the mountain? I think so!
Wow, as soon as I heard you call out "Cody" the lab, I was sure that was Andrew Caramata. I havnt heard from him in ages. Really good to see him & Cody. I see he has a new addition, as well. I love my labs, too. On to my third gold. lab. All the best to you guys, & say hi to Andrew for me, too. He has accomplished so much over the last year or two. I have watched his videos all the way through. Cheers Michael NZ
I think you're a great worker Jen, and back when I used to own and run a home improvement business, I wouldn't of hesitated to hire you... I would have taught you all the tricks of the trade and you would be a professional in no time... My company was known for super high-quality work and craftsmanship and know you would have fit right in after you were thoroughly trained... After watching you here and considering that this is not your profession, I think you did really well on your own... As a pro, the first thing I would have told you to do is get the oven stovetop out of the way, which would have made it much easier for you to work and get it done faster.. 👍😎🍸
Thank you! I feel like people that work in construction do not get enough credit. Some of these small jobs I’m doing by myself are really difficult. I can only imagine what it’s like to do bigger, harder jobs. And yes, I couldn’t agree more about the oven lol. I should have moved it what I thought about moving it.
Chris said "just get it done" lool i thought that was funny then the video was like an hour and something long!! I was thinking o b rother!! lol but she actually did it could have avoded ALOT of the hand cuttin things by utilizing the orbital multi tool but ya know??? she did great for a young woman!!!
@@jennifersugint You're welcome Jen, and really enjoyed watching you work, because you have a great personality and sense of humor that I love.. plus you're like me and not afraid to tackle anything... Girl power! 🥂
As a home remodeler, I am actually impressed you cut the tile with that. We use that setup to clean out a soft grout line or something simple but I couldn't imagine trying to use that to cut tile. I use an angle grinder with a Dimond or tile blade. It's a little more dusty but will get the job done in like 20 seconds and can use a vacuum to suck the dust as you're cutting. No criticism. I'm just genuinely impressed it worked
Great work ~ I believe you done well! Koodos to you for figuaring out the ways it could work but mostly taking the challenge to start then adjust to whatever it takes to fininsh the job. Now as you sit back for a moment to debrief , or reflect on the idea that much more pleasent would be that jjob if you started the hole just oversize instead of the same size ,but with that said , this is how we strive to learn the best practisess. Thank you very much for sharing this , Koodos for Chris and his support! Halellujah!
Jen you did an awsome job on the range hood. Loving your content im a hugh NKKH fan and loved when chris would have you on the channel now we can see you with your own content 👍👍👍
Great Job Jen, I've used a few big hole saws like that, and they twisted my wrist. You handled it great. Great diy video and some singing to boot. Keep them coming!!
I just wonder the 1st attempt at cutting hole from outside video was cut i think drill might have come n maybe smacked her in her pretty little face? then it got cut?
I have been a do it yourself home owner for forty years. I award you a first place trophy 🍺. Nice job ! Every thing straight and level! Very Nice!!! love your singing 😊
That was an awesome video I laughed then cried then laughed then cried some more and now I’m laughing again. You did a great job by yourself. It’s always cool seeing some one attempt a job they have never done before and accomplishing it. 2 thumbs up 👍👍 looking forward to future vids take care
I've been in professional construction for 42 years. You did AWESOME! Just a couple of tips - 1- take 2 minutes and move the stove next time 2- extend pilot drill on the holesaw, or buy some 1/4" rod at hardware store to make it longer (it doesn't have to be a drill bit if you drill pilot hole first) 3- stop worrying what strangers watching think. Most of us wish our girlfriends/wife would just help us, let alone try to do the things you do on your own! You are smart, beautiful, and amazing. 4- Chris really needs to get you a proper tool set! If he won't there are plenty of us that will adopt you and get you whatever you need :)
Another great job done Jen, I couldn't have done it any better love your determination🍺😁 love the music and film clips, I'm smiling constantly you're so funny, such great entertainment. That's a beautiful kitchen you have there, can't wait to see your next project. Greg🇬🇧💗🥰
Thank you so much, Greg! I’m glad I can give you a chuckle or two lol. And also thanks for saying that about the kitchen. If I had done videos back then I would have recorded me doing it. All I really have are pictures of my work. I’m sure there would’ve been a lot of funny content with the kitchen remodel if I had filmed it Lol.
Great job of working through the issues using what you have. Agree with @Lorenzo Munoz, you need to use a screen just inside the exterior flap to prevent critters entering. No matter what channel you see Cody and Blue, they are so much fun w/ all that energy. Keep at it, Jen! What project is next? 🎵👷♀🙂
she did a great job but im the same kinda i break things to fix them she did a great job on the hole but prob needed to make exhaust fit instead of cutting hole bigger but ya know caulk is forgiving lol!!
Здравствуйте Вы изменили мои представления об американской женщине ! Не всякий мужчина сможет так качественно проделать такую работу . Умело пользоваться инструментом . Вы прекрасная хозяйка, любящая свой дом . Спасибо
You are not doing anything different than us guys that have never done it before. We all have to start somewhere learn as you go. Keep going everything you have done so far looks excellent great job. So many people would never even try what you are doing.
Great job! I like the way you never give up. I saw your shed move a couple of months ago. When cutting your vinyl siding try cutting counter clockwise it won’t grab the siding but will cut it easily. Once you are through the vinyl siding switch to clockwise to cut through the wood.
I'm a fan! Love that you show REAL videos w/ trials & tribulations! And the cool fishy passing through the sewer pipe! Recently, I replaced an OLD OLD OLD toilet w/ a real beauty! Two weeks later, I removed it & reinstalled perfectly level using actual toilet leveling wedges (didn't use a level first time) and my caulking job is now PERFECT. Prior caulk was a total glob of a mess as the front was about 3/4 inches higher than the back! Live & learn, right? So now I'll spend the next month or so getting caught up on your projects. 😊
What a beautiful voice which goes along with your self determination to achieve your goals and as for your sense of humor well you get me laughing I look forward to see a lot more of your videos and hear you sing some more 🤘
Jenn, you did a excellent job. I loved the funny clips you had in your videos. Invest in battery operated reciprocating saw to make them holes a little bigger. Also invest in the wall barrier with the 4 poles. It helps with dust. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
It is so funny I am cheering you on like you can hear me. 😂I appreciate the fact that you are still trying, even not being a professional. it takes guts to drill a hole on the side of your house, but you pulled it off and now you have a functioning vent.
great job Jen!! perfect job in my book! you just gave me some motivation to finish some of my projects I've been putting off due to extreme laziness lol
I thought that might have been Andrew at the end of the vid. I recognized his voice and his dog Cody too. I've been a fan of his channel for many years, and used to live in Saugerties years ago... So cool that you both met him.👍🤯 Love your channel, keep up the remodels.❤❤❤👍
BLESS YOU BLESS YOU FOR THE 2 SNEEZE'S BUT YOU KNOW IM AN OLD GUY AND JUST GOT ASKED TO WORK ON MY FIRST PROSTHETIC, NEVER WORKED ON ONE BEFORE BUT WE GOT IT WORKING BETTER THAN IT HAD IN THE LAST FEW YEARS. DONT LET FEAR SCARE YOU FROM A JOB. YOU DID GREAT MEET THE CHALLANGE AND OVERCAME IT. A PLEASURE TO WATCH YOU BEAT EVERY NEW JOB. YOU GO GIRL.
lol thank you! And that's great to hear that you did something new and were successful! It's such a great feeling. I'm about to attempt a job this week that really intimidates me, but I'm going to try. It's something I have little to NO experience on... my car. I'm going to need to do a ton of research for this one. Thanks for watching, Greg!
Cracks me up how you're casually boozing it up like we're all just here working along with you! Can't wait to get our of renting so I can make my living space what I want instead of being limited to working with what I have
