I am very pleased that you are doing some videos on how to use Linux. The way Windows 11 is going I think more people will be looking for an alternative. Arch and Fedora are more for very advanced users, so it's not the one to start with. I have been using Linux for 2 years now but I would never use Arch or Fedora. Well I don't think I could use Arch it looks much to difficult to install and use. I use Debian and Linux Mint and it is working out very well for me. I wouldn't go back to Windows now. The Ubuntu and Debian based distros are the best ones to start with if you are a new user trying Linux for the first time. They are also very stable so can be used as your main OS and can also be used in offices and other places for work. Arch is not very stable as everything on there is bleeding edge, so things can break at any time. So not good for daily use. Still it's good you are bringing Linux to everyone's attention so users know that they have a choice.

Agree, my mint killed itself 2 times in the past, my windows did once. The key difference: i got no help with the weird windows bugs, while most linux things are very well documented

Manjaro is not Arch; however, it is a good entry point to get used to the commands of Arch. Debian uses apt-get, apt-install; Arch and its forks use PacMan This may seem trivial, yet, I have to stop and think or look up switches when using a Debian based fork. Arch is also a rolling release, keep it updated. I was dual booting, and didn’t go into Arch for a bit of time; and when I did, it would not update.

Hi Brian .. I need help please?? I have many micro as cards which I use for my pi star hotspot for amateur radio… however many of them get corrupted .. some of them turn into raw files which are impossible to format … I.don’t need any files on them just to reset back to normal size again as they decrease from GB to a few MB . I did see your videos on these but nothing worked . BTW IVdo see these cards on the disk management as healthy which means it can be reset. All programs I see don’t work or are a rip off cash wise … just need to reset all.. can you advise please.. thanks Erwin

A great advice: the ALCI installer; short for Arch Linux Calamares Installer. It uses the Calamares installer and it produces a completely pure Arch install. ALCI is what made encryption of my Arch install feasible on my laptop in the first place. 😁

@@Britec09 Just something I need to point out: the installer script has already installed GNOME and GDM during system installation because you selected the Desktop profile, so no need to chroot into the installed system to install them.

I do use EndeavourOS, but that's mainly a personal decision because it's so much easier to connect to Wi-Fi on a GUI than on the command-line.

If you setup the profile, you don't need the pacman -S gnome command.

for those who struggle with the add user in the arch install, you cannot use upper case letters whatsoever. I wouldnt recommend numbers or special characters either

I have not been able to install Linux in a 'VMWare' virtual machine, for some reason.🙄 I have been able to install it in VirtualBox VM, though.😀

Yea the maintainers hated to make that installer but really had no choice as they was losing to other Arch based distro's as people don't have all the time in the world to screw around with the old arch way. Though it's still a good learning experience and I recommend people try it at least once.

Great video. I think the reason why the username is invalid because usernames are case sensitive and only allow lowercase and possible no numbers I think (I've never tried using numbers)

🙂 guys, if you have a modern retail motherboard then you most likely have TWO M.2 Slots, I highly suggest you install Windows on the main SSD and then install a Linux Distro on the second SSD, and just use your BIOS to switch over to either Operating System, and for the THIRD drive it could be either another M.2 SSD or a 2.5 SSD or a big 20TB 2.5 Hard Drive for all your personal files, videos, music, pictures, game libraryies, both operating systems should be able to access the third drive, and in the future u can easily clean install windows again or another linux distro, to me right now that would be the Bees Knees 🐝😊🐝

If you don't recommend running this disro of Linux as a beginner than I have to ask what would make you want to show getting this distro up and running in what you described as the easiest way to go about it? Especially after a slew of video's suggesting trying out Linux as a Windows alternative. I would have thought you would go over what you claim are easier versions of Linux for a beginner. Forgive my questioning if that is all stuff you've outlined in older video's. I'm not that familiar with your channel but have been watching your video's recently.

You virtual machine was connected to ethernet by default. But if a real PC is not connected to ethernet, and you did not manually connect with WiFi using manual commands then the archinstall script will not be able to download and install anything.

Rule #1 about Linux. Arch guys either think they know it all or some know a lot. Many do not watch videos about Arch. Arch is a little to hard for the average Joe, even though they have made the install easy now.

Dual Boot 1 SSD Win (just Games), 1 SSD (Linux), 1 SSD (Linux Backup). Do not DualBoot on the same ssd!

ALCI is the way, then. It installs pure Arch Linux depending on the ISO you download and it uses the user-friendly Calamares installer.

It's actually Arch based (unlike Manjaro), but has an AUR helper installed by default (yay), has easy installation of the Nvidia drivers, and has some other nice bonuses, like a live session to test your hardware (with KDE Plasma 6) and the major DEs to install right from the installer (GNOME, Xfce, MATE, LXQt, LXDE, Cinnamon, and of course their default, KDE Plasma). They also don't apply many tweaks by default to the DEs and yet I've never had a problem with it apart from an issue that affected all Arch-based distros using GRUB as the bootloader on modern UEFI systems in 2022. EndeavourOS has the best forums I've seen for an intermediate to advanced distro; I highly recommend them.

There's nothing special in installing Arch with installer, it's not any different from any other popular "beginner friendly" distro in that regard. But installing it in the "Arch way" MAKES you learn. So the point is to learn how your system works by installing it bit by bit, typing console commands. I know there's an opinion "you just copy and paste commands from wiki" but I highly disagree. You totally could just copy-paste them without thinking, but in reality you'll bump into some (mostly minor) issues, caused by your unique PC configuration. That's the point of installing it "in the hard way".

Its basically a Lego set of pre built blocks that allows people to build their own Linux desktop system. It allows you to design your system around what you want AND what you want to do.
