come on RU-vid this project needs to be pushed more, not only because its great but the planet deserves it. Bless Sailcargo and all who sail in this mighty ship .

its not even a drop in the bucket that ship will carry like 20 containers equivalent that will need hours if not days to be loaded and unloaded that will also travel slow so no perishables they source the wood ecologically but there only some much of that wood we would need many millions of those ships its gonna need sails and ropes where do you grow all that hemp

It is difficult to understand why there are so few subscribers! This is an awesome video showing an awesome project. The boat is awesome size and the construction techniques are complex and often unusual but use the simplest of tools all bought together by a team with awesome skills. AND there is an awesome reason to do this project - It is a perfect example of what people can do in the face of the climate challenges that threaten the future of us and our kids. Kudos to everyone involved. Share with your friends!

Constructively (and to be clear I love this project!) I think a lot of it comes down to editing. This episode was edited superbly, but some of the older episodes are a bit long and rambly. It hurts them in the algorithm if people get bored and click away.

It’s because this project, although really interesting, is just not really a solution realistically to climate change. Sure, you can still build a huge wooden boat. But advances in green tech will solve our problems at such a huge scale that a handful of wooden boats (each taking 10 years to make) just won’t make a tiny speck of difference. This is just a passion project.
@dilbert0815
@dilbert0815 Год назад
the workmanship is outstanding, hence I love these wood building videos. But the target of the project is questionable at least. This is 250t cargo vessel and they are already 4 years under way mit incredible amounts of logs taken from the woods. How many decades before the beams and planks need replacing and how mand cargo would be 'spared' from conventional ships.' I've seen similar sailcargo projects here in germany using former refurbished steel boats. The cargo in the end: coffee, spices and other luxury goods. This is just trying to reverse to something like 1500 AD were world trade was just to supply the rich and wealthy. Sorry to say: this will not have a real environmental impact and inspire a change in world trade. Any engineer in dirty diesel engines making motors of the big container ships just 0.1% more effective would likely do more for the environment of the planet.

The issue is that the videos are long and come out very sporadically. Which leads to less people getting it recommended

Those are some killer planks. So much amazing timber going into the project/ Great to see the craftsmanship. The double hull is fantastic. Any consideration to putting a buoyancy positive material in there? Foam? It's wild to me that you could basically double the frames and almost have a complete "hull." Haha they're so bulky and closely spaced.

I really enjoy watching your videos because I'm a woodworker, however I question the future of the project. I suspect that you have run headlong into reality. You have purchased another ship and yet we haven't seen a video showing it delivering products yet. There are many good reasons that shipping went away from wind power and it seems very idealistic of you to think you can make this efficient enough to turn a profit. I could be wrong, but where are the numbers that you have come up with? Goods need to be delivered in a timely manner or customers will stop using your services. I know that you are planning electric power in Ceiba as well as sails, but both are very expensive. Has any ship of Ceiba's size ever been made all electric? How far will you be able to travel on a charge and how and where can you recharge that many cells cost effectively and fast enough to turn around for the next load? What is the projected average speed of Ceiba under electric or sail power and how does this compare to modern shipping? I think you need to produce a serious video that deals with projected costs of maintenance, recharging, number of deck hands and pay, insurance, estimated time of completion, cost of rigging etc. I think the major question is profit margin. Many are now donating their time, but a business can't sustain itself long term that way. How many trips each year and amount of cargo transported will you need to turn a profit? The more I think about this the more questions I come up with. In short you need a business plan video with real world numbers to help us understand how this will work and be sustainable.

Do you plan to treat the hull to prevent Toredo worms? Mesh, epoxy, both? Or is the timber used resistant? It would be a shame to see all that amazing work damaged by those invasive pests.
@Steve-ul8qb
@Steve-ul8qb Год назад
People I know with woodies like to slip their boat each year. Leave it on the hard for a few weeks and it kills any wormies off before they have a chance to grow. Certainly a potential problem.
@mikeskelly2356
@mikeskelly2356 Год назад
@@Steve-ul8qb I would think the enormous cost of 'slipping' a craft of that size would mean pulling it up when only absolutely needed. And it's a business craft that needs to be in operation as often as possible.
@Steve-ul8qb
@Steve-ul8qb Год назад
@@mikeskelly2356 yeah I agree Mike. Be interesting to see how they tackle the problem. Still they will need to anti foul her every 2-3 years
@braithmiller

They don’t like asphalt or copper. My hard antifouling is naphtha thinned, the hull I primed with naphtha copper. Bilge is coated and soaked in naphtha thinned copper polishing antifouling. If you let your hull go bare that will put you in the most danger. I do hard antifouling worth 2 years, polishing worth 2 and not requiring removal only water blasting. Pettit Unepoxy and Azkonobel.
