Ended up working Christmas Eve.
Only a little kitchen refit but a brief summary:
Sockets above the units
Microwave socket with a spur under the counter
Fridge socket under the sink cupboard drainer.
Socket above the mic for a soundbar
No washer or dryer as they are in a separate utility room.
Cooker is on its own 32A circuit.

It depends, I went off Makita cordless drills when the batteries used to pack up in no time at all. To be fair that was in the NiMH days. I ended up using De-Walt.

if you watch stuff from AvE on YT, dude is some sort of mechanical engineer and tears down almost every brand of drill imaginable and talks about design flaws and cut corners .etc. he doesn't like the quality of Milwaukee post-buyout by Techtronic Industries (same company that makes Ryobi and Rigid which are crap tools), and seems to recommend Makita. Further, most rental houses seem to rent Makita tools which usually speaks towards a brands longevity in the field. I personally own Milwaukee tools because they are usually on sale and super cheap at Home Depot in the states (99 bucks for an impact driver sans battery) and offer a step above Ryobi, however I know that Milwaukee tools are quite expensive in Europe.

Definitely give Dewalt some serious consideration. I had to make a decision about which brand/range of power tools that I was going with 7 years ago, and I chose the DeWalt 18V XR range. They have served me extremely well over the years and I have no problem recommending them. Their 54V FlexVolt range was a game changer as well. I have a track car and do all of the maintenance on my own car and van, so rather than the usual "tradesman tools" I have a broad range of stuff. Things like the 1/2" impact wrench, flexvolt grinder, die grinder etc come in extremely handy and I even ordered the 54V circular saw before Christmas as I'm flooring the attic of my garage and fitting cupboard units and worktop along the back wall in the New Year. At this point it's quicker to list the XR tools that I don't own, and I keep them all in their modular ToughSystem boxes, so it's safe to say that I'm heavily invested in the DeWalt "ecosystem". No regrets whatsoever.

I have a dewalt 20v 1/4 inch impact and I have the compact hammer drill and the regular sized hammer drill. They have all been really good to me so far. The regular sized hammer drill is an absolute beast, I have drilled a 1 inch hole through 4 or 5 2x4's that were back to back and it went through them without a sweat. The compact hammer drill is a lot less powerful, but still has no problems drilling 1 inch holes in studs and joists and it's a lot smaller and lighter than the regular hammer drill. The impact is also really good I use that thing every day and I love it.

I changed all my cordless tools to Bosch, their 3 year warrenty is great, they will send a courier to your job or home to pick up the tool and drop it off when it's done. Somone I worked with bought a set of 4 milwaukee and 3 of them went wrong within 6 months.

On your tools can I suggest that you use flouescent gaffer tape on all of them. Use neon pink or neon green, something that really stands out and put it on every thing you have. That way you can quickly scan a site and looking for that color and see what might be laying around. With the two trucks simply use one color for each van. I do it for all my photography equipment as well and works very well. Also I know this is old but on your multi tool 8:18 on those the handle that folds in on the top will automatically tighten the screw on the bottom, so you don't need any tools to tighten it. Simply pull it out 180 degrees, hand tighten the screw on the bottom and flip the handle back. The blade is tight and secure.

Hi Tom Been watching your videos for ages but first time I have left a comment. To those who leave comments about "house bashing" etc. just **** off. Any half decent sparks or indeed any half decent person wouldn't find it necessary to inflate their own ego by knocking others. Ref. power tools, to be honest most decent brands are pretty good. Bosch however are mostly owned by a charitable foundation so when you buy their tools you're helping others at no cost to you. But I do wish they would design their cases better so you can fit a bit more in, my Metabo driver is great in that respect. That boiler looks a bit low for the RSJ idea! Have a great new year and keep up the great videos. Cheers

Hi Tom, greetings from Ireland. I'm an apprentice plumber, My boss uses all Milwaukee. I don't think there as good as people let on. The drills ratchet chuck sticks and won't release, meaning you have to use a pliers to undo it. The angle grinder trigger is also an awkward design.

I use all dewalt the multi tool is very good with spring release for the blades. The only thing I'd say is the combi drills do not last . Everything else is well built .I've had three combi drills . All have burnt out in the finish and all start with a loose chuck and finish with a terribly loose one

I had been using the Makita LXT 18V tools for a decade, with the impacts being used most days. I've dropped drivers from roofs onto concrete and they went on to work flawlessly and are still in service today. The official batteries last well (I still have some originals at 10 years old, but most only last 3-4 years).However like you I've found their recent tools to be unreliable. Out of 3 brushless drill drivers 2 have been back for service, and their brushed LXT grinders are basically just 6-month consumable items (the brushless grinders are good).Now I'm a Bosch guy. I'd used a few of the 18V Bosch Professional tools so had a few batteries and chargers already and have now started buying replacements in their range and rehoming my old Makita LXT tools to friends/family. I'm not sure if their impacts will survive dropping off a roof, they seem more rigid and less flexible, but the bare tools are cheaper than the Makita equivalents, the 8Ah Procore batteries last me about 2 weeks between charges and they have 3 year warranties across the range.

Jay - there made in China now - that's the problem - only the top of the range DHP481 drill is made in Japan superior quality Same with the impacts DTD170 - Japan - others China I bought a lot of stuff direct from Japan - never had a problem with any of it Got a full sub compact kit - great size but made in China - it all went back under warranty - If Makita don't get there act together they will loose customers !!! Better to sell on quality than price - it cant be that much more for the bits that matter - chuck's & gearboxes etc Cheers

Colin- Yeah it really is disappointing as I have always been 100% a Makita addict. The funny thing is I have 2 DHP458 go back fo repair several times last year so bought a DHP481 and that has also been back a couple of times also. The usage at the time was nothing to heavy either, just cutting out downlights. The last straw was my 13month old multi-cutter giving up the ghost. Milwaukee may be expensive but as you say better to sell on Quality.

I'd have to say go with Makita, the 18v line up is huge there's no different batteries for their 36v (18v twin) line up and they have loads of 10.8v tools in the cxt range that you would use unlike dewalt who pretty much abandoned their 10.8v range

Bought a large Dewalt kit around 2000, then was cheaper to import from US, had a lot of use and was great, also Dewalt didn't bugger about with battery formats until they moved over to lithium. Some say new Dewalts not quite so good but very happy with their tools and availability.pricing is excellent generally. Believe what makes the downlighters fire rated is sealed face and intumescent washer round the back of bezel.

Hi Thomas, the Milwaukee multi tool has an amazing lock on it, you lift up the lever on the back (fully), screw the nut in and then drop the lever. You don't need pliers to tighten it up, the lever does all the work it's amazing. Try it, you won't go back.

@thomasbonse
@thomasbonse 5 лет назад
@8:00 I can say from experience that I've been very happy with DeWalt's 20v brushless tools. Their oscillating tool (DCS355B) even has a much nicer keyless design for changing blades (no pieces to lose). I've also used their 20v cordless drill (DCD791B) with both a 3/4-inch (19mm) auger bit going through 4x4 (89x89 mm) treated lumber and a 1-3/4-inch speed-auger bit on a 12-inch (300mm) long extension (1/2 inch shaft) through a 3-layer stack of 2x4 lumber and 5/8-inch plywood 5.9-inch (150mm) total boring distance without stalling the drill under those conditions. Funnily enough, the auger bits were significantly heavier than the drill itself. The batteries are usually pretty easy to find and reasonably priced where I live.

We use sockets on the ring in cupboards to avoid fused spurs too. Much neater job. Can I ask why you were using copex though? Also is that microwave freestanding? If it’s built in shouldn’t the socket be somewhere more accessible? My tip for plugs in cupboards is to hole saw out for a cable tidy (like you get in the top of a desk) then you don’t have to cut the plug off and you still have something to cover the hole up!

For the small 12V tools (1/4" impact, small drill, GWS 12 grinder) Bosch is great. These are my go-to tools for the kind of work you show. For everything large I have Makita, mainly because of their battery system. Unlike Bosch they use the same 18V batteries in their garden tools, and the 36V tools simply use two of them. I even made my own tools using the 18V Makita batteries (worklights, pole pruner, even a soldering iron). Build quality is definitely better on the small Bosch tools. Fit of the housings is perfect, and they feel great in the hand. The Makita handles are crap by comparison, the rotary hammer even gives me blisters. But otherwise the Makita quality is OK. I never used Milwaukee so can't compare.

Interesting to know what everyone's view on fitting Chandelier light fittings and removing the ceiling roses when they have looped the lives what does everyone do with the cable's?

Michael Johnson - do you want the correct answer, or do you want to know what you find when removing a fitting installed by others.... As long as the new light fitting has a base large enough to cover up a flush mount round back box, that’s a good place to house extra terminals. If you have access to the ceiling from above, a proper terminal box can be used. Otherwise it gets a bit tricky. However what you often find is a bit of choc-block stuffed into the ceiling void 🙁 which is not recommended or acceptable.

If you go for Makita get the DHP481 (made in Japan) drill its a beast silly amounts of torque so watch your wrists The DTD 170 (made in Japan) impact is great has 5 functions and can be used for really small screwsThe sub compact DDF / DHP 483 are really small - ideal for working in cabinets and use the standard 18v battery so one battery fits everything Avoid the cheaper Makita drills with the plastic chucks (made in China) there junk after a few weeks - HOPE YOUR READING THIS MAKITA !!!
