Nice job on your 460 farmall. They made stuff so much simpler back in the day! I just purchased a 460 and like your videos. Keep them coming and I will be watching.
I know this was 3yrs ago but i have a 504 that the pump screams and has for years. The collector guys say its sucking air and that the pump tube oring is shot. My hydraulics works fine other than the scream. When the filter freezes up in the winter its quiet lol but what was your outcome on this. My guess is you had a bad o ring and the pump blew up from to much air
After replacing the pump it is very quiet after changing the fluid several times to flush out all the water contamination. These tractors are 60 years old now, and alot of them are still limping along with the original hydraulic pump that barely works but won't completely quit. We also have a 504 with loud hydraulics, probably suffering from the same problem of an ancient pump that should be replaced but it's still working so don't want to spend the money on a new one yet
I'm currently tuning up my 560 diesel. Your videos were useful when changing my hydraulic oil. I'm not sure there is a way to drain that far back plug without making a mess. It comes out fast and mine had about 7 gallons so switching buckets was messy. I would suggest you invest in a 3/8 battery powered impact. It will save you a bunch of time vs hand ratcheting. My dewalt is perfect for those bolts as it isn't crazy powerful and does a nice gentle job with old bolts.
I would recommend if you're spending the time and money to replace your hydraulic pump then you need to do a complete fluid and filter change also. The fluid on these old tractors gets pretty nasty, so if you want your new pump to run well and last long then keep clean fluid in your system
In my situation it was pretty simple. My hydraulics became gradually louder over the coarse of a year, groaning quite alot even while idling without using hydraulics at all. Then suddenly there was a loud pop while pushing snow with the front loader, no more groaning and no more hydraulics or power steering. The new pump fixed it right up, tractor is back to work
