I second this! I'm an enthusiast rather than a professional however I do own a business and have used Chucks guides for a few things that now run within my business - This is an excellent guide! I have also set up a phone system in my house as I am on Starlink Internet which means I have been able to cancel my landline phone contract!

Keep in mind 3CX is still free after 1 year on the standard version if you never need more than 8 simultaneous calls. Many small businesses can get by with this.

@@victorwestmann Their pricing is transparent on their site and I was notified they have a special running right now until the end of the year. Version 18 is about to be released supposedly.

@@victorwestmann I believe it is. The company I’m with has about 75 employees, and I expect to save at least $250,000 over the next five years, but it is likely much more. We have 32 simultaneous lines (way more than we need right now) on the Pro Plan. We self-host on a Windows 10 virtual machine on our VMWare ESX system. We are also looking forward to the new MMS capabilities planned in the upcoming V18 release. With COVID, when we went into lockdown, we were able to route all of our calls to any employee anywhere. We aren’t provisioning physical phones, but our employees use any combination of the desktop app, the browser app, or the mobile app (highest usage is the mobile app…. It soooo easy to use and setup!). It really is very simple to setup. But Chuck has only scratched the surface with the capabilities. Highly recommended.

"No machine types available for your account in the selected region. Try another region or open cloud provider portal and check that you can create machines in the selected region." For those of you might get this error your fix should be to add Debian 10 buster to your subscriptions, didn't even have to unsubscribe from debian 9 just have them both subscribed. Thanks brenulti on the 3CX forums for supplying this solution.

For the "Machine Type" in 8:12 t2.micro or t3.micro is covered under Free Tier not t2.nano which was what was selected.

There is a small but very important thing in this video you have chosen (or 3cx has done this automatically ) The t2.nano machine type as the free tier one which is not, The only free tier option in all region is the t2.micro .. I know it's weird but after checking my bills I found some AWS Service Charges and after getting back to AWS they confirmed this info and I switched to the t2.micro machine type now it is working on free tier so I think this should be corrected on the video so that no body get charged by mistake Thank you so much Chuck for ur great videos, U R a great Engineer and person you helped me a lot and you are one of the reasons I took my ccna before FEB 2020 with your famous video Cheers!!

Certified 3cx Intermediate Engineer here. This dude is awesome. This phone system is so easy to configure (mine is running within a Hyper-V environment) and most of the clients I service have AWS cloud services for their 3CX systems. His walk through is faster, and easier than the walk through from 3CX

Yes, you will need a business email to sign up for an account. Though find a throw away domain, like I did for about 50 bucks a year plus 30-40 for email licensing. @@ejatinsharma

Absolutely awesome video as always and explained SIP trunking in like two mins, unlike my college lecturer who took an hour and I still didn't really get it. One thing: maybe don't use port 5060 as that's too well known as the SIP trunk so for even more peace of mind from a cybersecurity perspective, try a less well known port option.

3CX is based on the Asterisk platform. You could install Asterisk on the AWS server manually if you really wanted to.

If you would like to keep everything in AWS you could also use AWS Connect (would have to pay for the number) and you would not need to create an EC2 instance.. The IVR is pretty easy to set using graphical diagrams, so a simple IVR system is simple to set up... but if you want to get it complicated...you could start involving lambda functions to integrate it with other software (CRM) or do anything ...it also has services to transcribe the voice and send it over email or SMS and many more...it's a very deep rabbit hole.

Love the channel. This all worked great right up until I tried to provision a phone number from Chime. Whether I choose a Local or toll free number, as soon as I give a location and search for available numbers, Chime / AWS gives me an error message saying "Your service has been restricted. If you feel like you have received this message in error, please submit a support request in the upper right with the category “Voice Calling”. Any thoughts?

SOLVED Restrictions!! You will have to submit a support ticket via the dashboard. Let them know of the error. Support will respond asking for details of what you are trying to do along with a few other questions they will ask about your planed configuration. After you answer them, the next support response will also be standard, thanking you and so forth. more importantly they will you know that it being worked on but will take 5 business days to work. 5 days later you should be able to select and provision a local or toll free # This is 5 months late for a reply but just in case I hope it helps anybody who like myself pulled my hair and gave a good cussing to Mr. Network Chuck himself /A TBH I now less hair on my head every i believe NWC when he says it "EASY PEASEY" which really is his code for "I will be 6 days at least for you and 20 day of me laughing at you trying to figure out all the little details I left out in editing room!" But hey buy my merc, buy my coffee and oh yeah!! hack the youtube algorithm to pay my bills >8p

This is super cool. I am setting it up as I speak, waiting for 3CX to be up and running. However, AWS charged me in the first attempt as I selected my closest region which is Bahrain and it had no t2 micro available to be selected and it selected t3 micro. Removed the whole setup and started from scratch.

Provisioning an IP phone can be complicated. A lot of things depend on the manufacturer and the device. My company had some old polycom IP phones that we used from a previous provider before 3CX. They were old, but we only needed them for the basic calling. It took me a few hours of research, but I was able to flash the phone to updated firmware and then provision them to 3CX. But a video like these would have saved me a lot of time. I still don’t have the ATA set up correctly yet.

@@Quakefire Yes, there is. Our older phones can’t handle it. They require a local provisioning server and local VOIP installation. For this reason, I can use them around the office, but not in remote locations. Newer phones CAN be provisioned to utilize a cloud-based PBX. You just have to make sure you are buying the right phones that are compatible with your PBX. 3CX has a page of all phones that have been tested and are at least minimally compatible. It’s not an exhaustive list because there could be other phones, but they only test the most popular and most likely to be deployed for businesses using 3CX. On that page, my companies phones fall under the legacy/EOL list linked at the bottom of the page. I would assume that all legacy phones are not cloud compatible. Also note that the steps to provision the supported phones are linked on that page. Look for the provisioning section. If it can be provisioned over the cloud, you will find a section on Remote Phones. Just follow those instructions, and you will be set.

For anyone wondering in 2023, Amazon Chime is NO LONGER SUPPORTED by 3cx so a big portion of this video isn't relevant anymore.

Using 3CX for my business as well as at home. Both servers installed on raspberry pi. No more physical phones at home using 3CX's app. Great for my kids as they can call anybody from their tablets.

When I tried to follow along with the steps Chime gave me an error saying my account is "restricted". Is that because I have a free account?

Its due to account being new. submit a ticket answer some question and amazon will release restriction. If you happen to get outbound calling to work please msg me.

Yep, seem Amazon is being a bit more cautious about providing numbers via Chime. This is the response I got after sending a support request: "1. Are you making use of Amazon Chime Business Calling or Amazon Chime Voice Connector? 2. Are you attempting to provision a phone number? If so, how many phone numbers do you intend to provision? 3. What do you intend to use the service for? If this is related to your business please provide a link to website details. 4. Which countries would you be calling and what is your expected call volumes? We will review these details with the service team and advocate for enabling your account. To ensure we understand your use case it is crucial to provide the above information in as much detail as possible."

Just got this in my YT feed, very fitting as I will shortly begin transferring my works numbers to 3CX instead of the old ISDN/PoTS system (the pbx is so old it has passed "End Of Spareparts" status :)

Thanks for the videos showing the 3CX system. I installed mine on a Raspberry Pi with a couple of outdated Polycom phones with an Amazon Chime SIP trunk. On top of everything else, I am behind a Verizon G3100 Fios router. I had to call Verizon and have them disable SIP-ALG, but after a load of convincing the tech that he could do it, he must have asked someone and figured it out.

Those Verizon modems are notorious for enabling SIP ALG. You got lucky with the G3100. Some of them you can't even disable it.

This is actually very cool to learn and play with. Thank you for the video and please keep up the good work. I just wonder how many people actually need a business phone system to get this setup. After one year, the bill from both AWS and 3CX will surprise you. Don't get me wrong, this is very cool and awesome to learn. The thing is its applicable for business only.

This is great.... I hold an 3CX Intermediate Certification and use the system for our daycare business. One thing you should have added to this video is how to connect desk phones either by Direct Stun or by configuring and using a Session Border Control.

Great vid, for person getting the machines not found error, for right now install or checkout debian 10 (buster ) in the amazon market place and also for those receiving the "service quotas " error on the installation page you would need to add "ServiceQuotasFullAccess" as a permission in IAM the same way you did the EC2 access permission.
