Today its time to re-install the gearbox that we just rebuilt back into the skoda project! Enjoy :D Business email - savagegaragebusiness@gmail.com Merch - teespring.com/...
I have done many gearbox changes and clutch replacements - so its a good refresh - but the way you explain it for those who haven't done this is really impressive James - well done
Im o glad you are able to upload regular again. Love watching this channel. Is mechanic your full time job ? I'm thinking of joining a evening class to do my qualifications.
Because the gearbox was bone dry when installed, as well as having the car level or slightly tilted forward when filling, you could also have run it through the gears on axle stands to coat everything with gear oil inside the box including the gearbox walls and all the nooks and crannies. That would have allowed the last 200ml to be poured in. Well done on a really excellent series of videos. An absolute ton of work to do then to film and to edit into something entertaining.
I've found the brake cleaners I've used are pretty much the same, currently using Wurth brake cleaner in refillable dispenser, cans are great for the pressure but always end up running out when you really need it
.I can't wait see if it's ok I think u have done a first class job great video making the job look easy even thought it's not with working on the ground Phil in stoke
Bravo for having the balls to tackle jobs like this on your drive - no fuss just gets on with it! You are the UKs version of Chris Fix - without the stupid accent lol
Really interested to know what you're doing with that guitar. 👀 I love guitars aswell as cars I recently refurbished an old one of mine it was black I sanded it all the way back to bare wood and cleared it then put all black hardware on it. Looks awesome now!!
Hey mate. Im a huge fan of the page. Iv currently only got a corsa d and im starting my own small channel as a bit of fun. Any ideas on increasing popularity as I don't get many views
This is brilliant really enjoying the content James, You’ve done incredibly well with this gearbox rebuild considering you’re tackling it on the driveway and have never done one before well done mate respect 👌
As someone who has had their first car for 4 months and can only just about service it - It's great how easy you make even huge jobs like this understandable. Learning lots mate, thank you!
A very nifty alignment tool, it beats the heck out of trying to eyeball the darned thing. Gearboxes always defeated me, yet they are a logical beast managed with care and logic. Well done for your mastering those challenges.
As I'm writing this I only have to bleed the clutch and put the battery tray and airbox back into the Octavia I've been working on. Sadly couldn't save the gearbox I had myself (ran out of oil and synchros got chewed up), but we put a used unit with fresh seals back in. The 4x4 versions are a nightmare to work on compared to the 2WD ones, especially if it's a TDI. Your videos were of great help though and I wanted to let you know that.
Im in the middle of a rebuild and was trying to figure out how to fit my gearbox. With covid in full swing i couldn't get anyone to help and having a seperated ac shoulder joint meant that i needed to have to do it pretty much one handed. This idea along with the aid of a little ratchet strap made it a piece of piss to do in comparison to the struggle of getting it out whilst the engine was supported by a strap and wooden beam. Cheers for the idea 👍
Hey james , i would like to know, where did you buy those repair parts? I can't even find the bronze ring that you replace. Also realy impresive and great job !
@@TheSavageGarage ... Just asking. The last video I found was dated 5 Nov when you were wait for bolts for drive shafts .... Not knocking you at all :-)
Good videos on the skoda matey nice to see all the tool collection as well you will soon be in a lock up in the dry n warm . When you put the gearbox back in a hard plastic or thick cardboard saves you scraping the floor etc
Great clutch alignment tool, I haven't seen that type before and it is clearly the correct one for that type of clutch/gearbox. If you have to work on a clutch/box which has a pilot bearing in the centre of the flywheel you need an alignment tool which aligns to the pilot bearing (or both bearing and pressure plate). Half a millimetre out between the centre of the clutch plate and the centre of the pressure plate isn't going to make a lot of difference, the gearbox will still go in. Half a millimetre out in the alignment between the clutch plate and the pilot bearing and you are screwed trying to fit the gearbox, it ain't happening.
Bro, love your videos. Can you also please show the video production kit and how you go about doing your video editing , thumbnail as it looks amazing. Love to see the whole process documented in a video. Keep doing great work mate.
You need to get hold of some sort of tent. I have the same problem this time of year. At least you have a nice shed and plenty space in the driveway. I’m trying to work out of some sort of garden umbrella thing to use.
Another brilliant video as always and looking forward to watching you replace the clutch and then putting the gear box back in and hope you are staying safe and well
Really impressed you doing all this on your own - Usually gearbox is regarded as "don't open, buy a new one" - Real inspiration for me to have a go on clutch and gears.
Its probably because its dragging on so long, its been a month or more now so they would have expected it to be done and running by now. i must admit it is dragging on a bit
