Many thanks to those who helped me out along the way.
Below are some useful links to guides, products, and parts and further explanation of instructions that weren't very clear.

SGW Bypass Plug ('18-present): shopeurocompulsion.net/produc...
MultiECUScan: www.multiecuscan.net/
MultiECUScan User Guide: www.multiecuscan.net/howtouse... -- Page 56 through 60 explains how to run a proxi alignment after changing adjustments

Lower Steering Column Cowl 6CV10LXHAA: parts.moparonlineparts.com/oe...
OEM Switch Assembly: parts.moparonlineparts.com/p-...
-- Clarifications --
1) With the three connectors, you need to individually disconnect each of them. They are not all held together.
2) After reconnecting the three connectors plus the fourth paddle shifters connection, then you can reconnect the car's battery. When you reconnect the battery and start the car, you will get a lot of fault lights. What seems to work is just turning the steering wheel lock-to-lock and the car will go back to normal.
3) Explanation of installing the lower cowl was quite vague and I apologize for that. It took me forever. There are two posts that aren't on the same place on either side and you need to get the cowl to clip just above and then lock into place using the posts. Once it's locked into place, then the top part and click down and be secured. Knowing, this, should only take a minute or two.
4) MULTIECUSCAN INFORMATION: Make sure you are on the BODY -- CAN SETUP PROXI ALIGNMENT option, and then press connect. Once you have changed the paddles to 'present' and confirmed/completed, scroll to the top of the list of things you can do in MES, then press "PROXI ALIGNMENT PROCEDURE" and the process will begin.
Please let me know if you have any questions, I am happy to try and help.

Great vid. It helped a bunch. For those using the original lower trim, Dremel 3cm down from the top near the stalk, go 2.5 - 3cm forward and then 2 cm back up. It looks pretty factory w/ these dimensions. For those asking about cost, the prices of these parts has gone up considerably over the years. The more people that learn about how easy this is, the more the price will keep going up.

Awesome video MaxFerriswell! Quick disconnect on the negative battery terminal works very well, super easy once you figure it out! Removing the negative terminal is recommended as that is able to touch the body or any other grounded point without causing sparks/damage.

Thanks. That is super easy. You would go to Service --> Service Interval Reset --> Adjustments and then make changes from there. If you've done an oil change during that service, you will go to Engine --> Marelli blah blah Injection --> Adjustments --> Oil change. This will get the oil degradation function back to "oil life: 100%" and it'll decrease thereon out as you use the vehicle I will make a video on this for the future I think, if not done already. Great video, many thanks! I have bought some used paddle shifters. Installing them will be a cool adventure! I do not believe the used parts I bought have the screws to screw them into the steering wheel. Do you have any idea if these screws are already in my car, even if I have a car without the paddle shifters? So I can just get those screws out and put the paddle shifters in there and then "rescrew" the screws? Or do you know which screws I would need to purchase for this if I do not have them? Would be very happy with an answer, thank you in advance!

The car without paddles does not come with the screws, you will need some. I wish I could tell you with confidence the exact dimensions of the screw, but there is nothing in the parts catalog that seems to divulge its dimensions I have some on hand (only three), and they are Torx T8 and appear to be 8mm long. Not sure on the diameter or pitch of the thread.

I have removed my steering wheel and put it back. I'm 100% sure that I put it back correctly (allignment). But now the the steering wheel isn't 100% in the centre when I drive. How to fix this? Does it have something to do with steering wheel angle reset in MultiEcuScan?
@ferrisschueller3984
@ferrisschueller3984 2 года назад
Did you turn the steering wheel lock to lock, then dead center, then ignition off once you reconnected the battery? A common problem is that people do this procedure on ground that is not level -- it needs to be perfectly level, tire pressures correctly inflated, etc. You do not need to do anything with the steering wheel angle reset in MES for this procedure.

do you have any guide on how to install the SGW bypass plug? I'm confused and dont know how to install them. Much appreciated!
@ferrisschueller3984
@ferrisschueller3984 3 года назад
Yes, for Giulia or Stelvio? Giulia is a bit easier, it looks. I have personally done neither. For Giulia, the official method is to remove the front seat (for space, I would assume), remove instrument panel silencer panel, left side knee airbag (I think you can leave it, IMO), release the fastening stud on the air duct to move it out of the way, then you reach near the steering column to find the SGW module which has two wire harness connectors. You take those two connectors and plug them into the SGW bypass plug and there you go. For service requiring diagnostic scan tool in the future, leaving the bypass plugged in causes problems. You will want to disconnect the bypass plug and return it back to stock once no longer needed
@reftwong7968
@reftwong7968 3 года назад
@@ferrisschueller3984 thanks for the guide! Just a quick question: is it okay for me to leave the plug on all the time? Or do I HAVE to remove it to make the giulia back to normal?
@ferrisschueller3984
@ferrisschueller3984 3 года назад
@@reftwong7968 No problem. You probably want to disconnect the bypass plug for future service. Basically, if you ever take the car to an authorized Alfa Romeo dealer (or other brands within FCA network), they will use Micropod II or some type of J2534 scan tool for diagnostics, and through wiTECH 2.0, FCA authenticates use of that scan tool for the technician with the vehicle. If the bypass is plugged in, there is probably an authentication error of some sorts that would not allow them to access the modules with their tools. I recall it's been a problem noted on some forums and groups

@ferrisschueller3984
@ferrisschueller3984 2 года назад
Any time you are fiddling with electrical connectors or touching these things, you should always disconnect the battery. It is a very easy step that is how we ensure things like airbag deployment doesn't happen. Official dealer service procedures always begin with disconnecting the negative terminal. When you're physically installing the paddles, have the battery disconnected. Obviously when you are using MES and enabling them (software), the battery is reconnected of course Thanks

That's not the whole process, i'm afraid. There are two black philips screws that go through the large holes on the padles, the stalk assembly and fasten behind into something. They are already there holding just the stalks. You need to undo and reinstall after adding the paddles. Then also add the T8 screws you mention. There is no way you can do this with the wheel on tho. To remove you need to poke something into the hole on the back of the wheel to release the airbag, then undo connectors and then there's a 24mm nut.

I see. I've bought and sold 5 or 6 sets of the paddle shifters with the indicator stalks and clockspring and not once seen what you describe. Usually I have to remove a few extra screws, but it's been a while and I forget where. I guess they get removed when removing from a vehicle? These screws are fastened somewhere in the steering column area, to the vehicle, not the switch assembly? I have the factory service manual and see that the SCCM is one unit and not meant to be separated so I don't see any info on it. Of course for the purpose of retrofitting, we separate it. I've had the paddles mounted to the car since October 2019 and they've not come loose or anything. So I don't think the 2 black screws you speak of are as critical as using each of the four T8s. I did not want to remove the airbag and wheel if possible.

Bene sono contento da italiano ma soprattutto perché è veramente una macchina unica nel suo genere la guida è una cosa eccezionale hai gli interni uguali ai miei con cosa curi la pelle?
@ferrisschueller3984
@ferrisschueller3984 4 года назад

Ferris Schueller yes I have the same exact cables and I programmed them but now my check engine light is on and my odometer is flashing
@ferrisschueller3984
@ferrisschueller3984 4 года назад
@@Ian-zu9pn Yeah the flashing odometer just means the BCM has sent a proxy configuration code that the networks don't agree with. This prompts a DTC to pop up (in your case, the CEL). If three ignition cycles don't clear it, I would attempt the proxy alignment again. The flashing odometer is the telltale sign of a proxy configuration discrepancy, but your mileage won't be affected (in case you were concerned)
