I find it fascinating to watch women do construction, they're so cheerful, patient and detail oriented plus there's no blood or cussing like when guys do it.
Thank you for the great video. I am no expert but since I moved in my house I have saved tons of money by learning how to do things myself. I use RU-vid to see if I would be capable of doing a job myself. So far I have repaired a leaking roof, repaired my furnace, and other jobs. I don't even want to mention about the auto repairs that I have to do on the car that I own but it is empowering to DIY. Thanks again.
I look forward to doing my own window installation now and I learned it from you. How cool is that women helping and teaching women. I will film and post mine. Thanks so much how encouraging you are.
Ms. Kaitlin Poe. You are an Intellectual instructor and master with your experiences. I was in fourth grade when I heard my teacher instructing as you do and everything he said I still remember, I am 56. You are explicit in every small detail - wow, I am sure an elephant will learn from your instructions and will never forget. You just have that special gift! Best of all Art Pintado.
One of the best howto videos I've seen. Whats good about this video is that the aluminum window Kaitlin removed is very common and can be found just about everywhere. Good job with video reference guide on how to measure and remove Kaitlin
Kaitlin you did an excellent job all around. You are a lovely talented woman look forward to other possible DIYs. You were much more careful than most contractors I have seen do this...
Thank you very much for the excellent video. I am a 56 year old guy and have always done pretty much everything myself around the house, but I was glad to watch your video first because it saved me a lot of time I would have spent going after things at the hardware store which I would have never realized I needed till I had everything all apart. Now I just need to save up the money to do the job. Smart girl! :) Thanks again. God bless.
AWESOME!!!took a girl to make it look easy...looked at all these guys doing it and it was actually more confusing and seemed like it took longer...thank you!!!
I'm a pretty handy girl but I wasn't sure I was going to be able to tackle my window project. I feel much more confident now. Thanks for the video...You Rock!
Thank you for the good clear instructions on replacing a window. We need to change a few windows at home and this is what I was looking for, step by step instructions. Many thanks!
Gloves, Kaitlin, Gloves! Safety Goggles, Kaitlin, Safety Goggles! You seem to be so competent at what you do, you certainly have time for a little safety and a good example. Thanks for the instructive video.
Agreed. A+ video from start to finish. Covered everything I needed to know for my exact window application, in depth with clarity detail! The best I have seen and I watched a lot today.
I have nasty aluminum windows with interior even nastier storm windows. A backwards job. Seeing you replace the window gave me courage to proceed with my windows. I WILL get it done. Thank you.
Thanks to this video I was able to replace a window in a room I was re-doing. Took about two hours (most of that time was chipping out the old sealant.) I’m going to be doing more of them one at a time. Thanks!
Kaitlin, you are fantastic! Your window video truly helped me with a replacement of my window. My project is in a brick house and you just made the whole job look as easy as pie. Thanks again & keep up the good work!
You remind me of my little sister. She knocks down walls and puts in windows with fearless abandon! You got that same can-do spirit. And thanks for showing me how - so I DON'T HAVE TO ASK HER!!!
You made it look so easy.... New windows are on my list, but hiring them done is $400-$500 each. I think I have the confidence to try to do it myself. Thanks for the video.
bravo lady ,this is truly a hardwork but you did it so smoothly and inefficiently that now i want to replace my windows too .i hope it work for me .well done and thanks
I too want to thank you for the great video, because we are in the process of buying a fixer up home and the window need to be updated. This video helped me alot!
Thanks ever so much, Kaitlin. I have a window like this to replace, on wood but same principle, and you've been sooo helpful! I especially liked the advice to remove the glass first. Good job!
Thank you for this how to video! My dad considered my sister and I one of the boys; when he need a helper during his home repair projects. My hubby was mighty surprised at my knowledge of home DIY....😏😏
Great job! I am also a very handy woman! I just got 5 bids for the labor to replace my windows- same brick house in Tucson, AZ ( Looks like you live here too!) I, now, feel confident in doing this myself (with my sisters help)... THANKS Paula =)
I have never installed double glazing only single glazing I would imagine this would be similar to installation in the UK. A very well presented video.
In my area along the coast, we are not allowed to screw into the brick We are mandated to screw into the framing studs. The studs are stronger than the brick. Second, when you counter sink a aluminum frame it loses 50% of its strengh. That window you removed wasn't a new construction window but a remodeling window that's why you were able to remove it quite easily. Most likely, it was replaced before. Over all, it is a good video.
if those are your daughters, it was a wise move teaching them. i have two sons i never did teach and now at 64, they still count on me for all remodeling and fixes. my fault.
Excellent video. Good job Kaitlin. I'm a pretty handy man but would not attempt to change out a window. I'm still nervous about doing it myself as my brick house is 36yrs old. I'll have a pro do it but I now understand the procedure and more confident there will be few if any surprises.
decent video ive been installing for 10 years. i can say when you measure make sure to also measure the inside sheet rock. some homes ive seen have wider inside than outside. so what happens when you replace you will have gaps on the inside which will have to be molded. also this window did not have nail fins between the brick and home. so if some one watching this just know it may have to remove glas and use a flat bar to break nail fins out from the wall. also measure the depth of the window they do have homes that have bricks that end short and you wanna make sure the new replacement covers the gap
Nice job! I would use a hammer drill with that masonry drill bit, though. And you would certainly need to shim the window wherever you are going to screw it; otherwise the frame would bend outward if you put a bit too much pressure on the screws. And the shims will adjust and hold the window to perfect level and squareness while you attach it.
Way to go !!! I had some doubts about replacing a window at my place and you've helped me to get rid of them... you've done it in the best and easy way can be...not to mention that your very beautiful (which is e relevant...
Good job, you should have shown the finished product though! I wanted to see how it looked from a distance after it was all done! I'll be tackling my own now thanks to your video.
@dynamx81 We did anchor screws and foam on most of the windows. We did use shims on the windows that had very rough sills. Plumbing the sides and applying even pressure with the concrete screws is very important. Thanks!
Thanks for posting; now that I see how it's done, I can do this too. I like your attention to detail which is hard to find these days. Too bad you don't live in Virginia Beach. I'd hire you on the spot!
FYI you should have placed shims on both the front and back side of the window where you put your screws in to make the surface between the window and the brick a solid continous piece. Not to say you will have a problem with this but it ensures that when you tighten the window down it won't pull the frame crooked.
I'm a female and will be installing my first window soon, with the help of a neighbor :) Thanks for the video. I'm a bit more confident in trying this now. My house is similar. I'm replacing a single pane aluminum 3x6 window. Would you answer this question......the window you are installing seems to be vinyl is that correct? Also it doesn't appear to have any flange around it. Did you buy new construction or replacement and why? Thank you for any help. I hope you still answer questions on this older video.
Marcia R Ummm, the entire video is about installing a replacement window, so, yeah, she bought a replacement window. You might wanna just get someone to do it for you.
My partner always says she can'tt do DIY stuff citing the fact that she's a girl. Gonna show her this vid and hopefully no more excuses. Big thanks for posting.
Thank you sister! I were searching for how to remove windows frame out of the windows. Unfortunately mine is wood plus cemented into the brick, so hammer away hahaha Love ya from Malaysia
@datprius We actually ordered one at an odd size. It added about 15 % to the cost of the window. We haven't done sliding doors (we have French doors) - same procedures, but shimming the sides properly is critical for doors. Weatherstripping and flashing is also important if there is a possibility of rain entering in. Run silicone bead under threshold.
