We wanted to have a removable second-row seat in our van so we could carry extra people but have the space available when we didn't carry passengers. The seat rails being hidden under the floor are critical and the strength of how the seats are attached is even more important.
Our bench seat was bought on eBay and was a used bench seat from a similar Ford Transit Passenger Wagon Van. They match our front seats in design and color and are completely vinyl. They're also very heavy and built specifically with our removable goal in mind.

If you are doing this install too, DO THIS FIRST! Trace the floor bracket onto a piece of cardboard. You'll likely be installing a floor and it's pretty difficult to reverse-engineer the correct outline. Lots easier to do it while it's not attached.

Thanks so much for the video! I followed a lot of your ideas for the installation of a 2 seat 2nd row in my 2017 Sprinter. I made the reinforcing plates underneath with 3/16" welding steel and bolted down with Grade 8 bolts. I had to drop the diesel fuel tank to do this so that was an added bonus step. To cut the steel I used a diamond edge cutting blade on an angle grinder which saved the effort of manually cutting with a hack saw. Thanks again.

What are the dimensions of the leg room and seat? I'm trying to design a layout which incorporated 2nd row seating, but am having a hard time estimating the dimensions.

Thank you! I learned a lot from your video. I installed a Ford Transit double seat. I've got a Ram Promaster and it seems every model has its own underside to deal with. Like others have mentioned, Sawzall with metal blade cuts the easiest. Also, instead of using a flat bar, I went with L-shaped angle iron for a little more rigidity. Again, thanks for the details.

Hey, great videos! I just bought a 2018 for transit 150 passenger with my partner and we are planning to keep a row of 2 seats. We were considering the idea of moving the seats that are situated right behind the driver seat to closer to the sliding door so we can utilize that space on the other side. It would be removable as well. Would love to see a full tour of your build and how the removable seats look with or without them!

Hey Man, nice job!!! I have a 2015 medium roof long wheelbase cargo transit. I just bought the same seat as you did. Can you give me some Insight on 2 vs 3 mounting rails? Do you think 3 is necessary? Is 2 enough? Also wanted to ask what you thought about mounting further driver side by 1 rib and using like 6” bolts down through the frame rail? Thanks a million dude :-)

If you have the same seats then you know they’re built like tanks. I don’t think 3 is necessary. You could move them over another but getting to the bolts in the rails is almost impossible. If you ran them through the frame rails they would be incredibly secure but a pain to drill through the frame rail and I’m not sure the structural integrity or warranty issues with that could cause. We also placed them where they are to allow for the driver side wall paneling later and a fold down counter top.

Maybe use a Saw-all to cut the brackets. Drill press would be handy for drilling steel.

softdorothy would have used a cutoff disc on a grinder if I had it and a drill press if I also had it.

Thanks for the very clear well done video. I learned a lot from it. One thing I noticed . . . You mentioned moving the seats over into the next set of grooves to avoid going into the chassis. . . @8:45 Are those access holes in the chassis rectangle tube? Are they spaced appropriately to accommodate the brackets being directly above them? Seems like it would be good design on Ford's part to have the seats attached directly to the chassis. Every time I bolt something to my Sprinter, I have a nightmare vision of the object ripping out of the sheet metal and flying forward in a collision. Like you, I do overkill mounting solutions, and those holes lining up would be a dream come true for me.

Zubeyir M I don’t recall exactly if there are factory holes that should line up. Since I placed the seats farther forward they wouldn’t have lined up either way.

I see US folks installing all sorts of seats like this. Are there any legal concerns? This would not fly in Europe unfortunately. Any modification to the number of seats needs to be carried out by a certified company.
