I am loving this van build - you are challenging everything. You are showing people who may be a little over 30 and have health issues that they can keep on keeping on. I just love it! Go Girl!
I wish I could get the courage to build out a van. I'm 68 single financially independent but just keep making choices from fear and low risk. I have a long list of why I can't and clearly from watching you, it is very doable. Admiring your courage until I can get some of my own.
I'm 70 and did it. Read and watch video's and write it down in a travel journal to refer back to it. Have to start somewhere. I take care of my own vehicle because I read the manual. I also have tools and have a portable battery jumper. If this is truly your dream, start watching video's on must have and start adding to a tote now. 😊
@@carolynlasher8896 do you have a Facebook page or a forum you're on? I would like to have a place to chat with people like you so I can at least start planning. Thanks for the encouragement and any info you can provide.
@@noramarshall2629 , Thank you. How I learned is utube. Just enter easy no build camper Van's. You can pick the ones closest to what you have or want to purchase. Keep it simple and only purchase necessary items. You don't need a lot. As you go along you will find what is not needed and purge again and again. Happy Travels.
Carolyn, I've been watching you since the very beginning of your van journey and I have to say, I love how you roll up your sleeves and get in there to get things done. You research, you try things and learn what works for you! I am so impressed with how you aren't afraid to do things. I think it is looking really good! You are doing a great job!
Come on ladies, you can do if you just try. We are beyond being baby makers and housewives!! We've come a long way baby!! Be confident and independent. Feels grrrrreat!!!
Can't wait to see how this performs in comparison to your former electrical set up! Love how much more stealth this is as well as the ease of installation because I could absolutely do this myself. Thank you for the video!
Don'tcha just love Eternabond tape! I keep rolls in both our RVs and find all kinds of uses for it. I just this morning had to remove some from around the front over-cab window in my Toyota motorhome as we are removing the window (it leaked, which is why it had Eternabond around it). That stuff kept the window from leaking for 3 years! Your solar panel will never come off with both Eternabond and foam tape!! Good job, Carolyn!
Looks great! I changed the cartridge in my dripping bathroom sink faucet the other day that my husband had put off for four years. Took me 5 minutes and no more leak! Thanks for the inspiration to try and do these things.😊
Ya know girl, it's only so hot out there because you're out there raising the temp. And don't worry, we never miss any of your vlogs. Keep up the good work young lady. We luv ya.
Impressed by your recent solar panel install. By the way, EternaBond if installed properly, can last 18-35 years ... means that Solar Panel on your van isn’t going nowhere, ...but your roof. 👍 🤓
First, I am so happy you are back regularly on RU-vid! You always have a project going or something to share that's right up my alley. That solar panel was so easy! Can't wait to see part 2. I believe I would put one more piece of Eternabond across the front. Might keep wind and rain from going under the panel.
What a great idea. I didn’t realise it was that easy to install. I just love the way you you just get in and do it! Parker is such a happy little guy❤️ 🐨🇦🇺
I don't know how you do it. I couldn't even begin to install those batteries and a solar panel !! You could get a job on the side you're so smart about doing that kind of stuff!! I wouldn't even begin to know where to start 🙃 You amaze me Carolyn!! God Bless and sending long distance Hugs ❤
Wonderful CC! ! You show them, I love your strength in getting it done. You give so many hope. Just a suggestion CC, every once in a while check your tape and make sure no wind or rain has lifted it up. Love and hugs, MommaFaye 🌺
I understand not wanting to do the other part Carolyn! In Tucson we’re so thankful for the rain, but man this humidity is something else ! Wow you never cease to amaze us with helpful and informative things to think about, and Do! Thank you!😍👋
No I won't miss next time as I want to learn as much as I can about this. Yes it is hot as got up to 96 today here. So far looks good. Thanks and Hug to Parker. Love ya
@@dbkyhere9229 yes, mines been rained on plenty of times, even the controller but Id rather keep the controller portion in a baggie bag just in case, and of course you do not want your LiFePO4 battery submerged in water. I think all solar panels are water proof.
Well I learned something today. I didn't know it was possible to tape down the soft solar panels! How easy was that! Good job, Carolyn! If that's the tape Ausia used to fix her roof, I'd say you'll be okay! You are sure getting everything ready for the next trip! You'll have everything you need this time around! Great job!
Thanks! That is amazing. I’ve seen the flexible panels advertised and wondered how they would adapt to vans. Always appreciate your videos. Enjoy the rest of your day and cool down. 👍🏻
Just a tip for taking the clear tape off to reveal the sticky side. In your case if you will fold the tape where you want to cut it, so the white side is together. Then press down really hard to make a crease where you're going to cut. That kind of stretches the clear tape & releases it from the sticky back, just enough so you can peel it off easier. You should be able to see what looks like a bubble along the fold where the clear has lifted up, if not bend it back & forth a couple of times. I've had to do that on really good sticky tapes! Hope this works for you, always has for me! God bless you & Parker!
You are so amazing. You are so gutsy. And willing to try and do it yourself. I used to be more like that till Dan came into my life. Lol but I'm gona get that back. I like being independent. We are WOMEN, watch us roar ... High five Carolyn. Nice...👍🏻😁🤩
Nice. I know CVK endorses the tape. With his OCD, I wonder how many times he would have repositioned the taping process? 🤣🤣 I love you both 👍. Many folks run their panel cords between the rear door and gasket. I’d be concerned with “springing” the window panel. 🤔🤷♀️. I enjoy your videos.
Hi Carolyn! I love ur videos they're very helpful for me that I'm clueless 😂😂 The panel looks great, can't wait for the other part. Take care, keep posting and be safe 💕
Carolyn I'm so proud of you. Your like a little monkey climbing all over that van & ladder. Love your video's keep them coming. Be safe out there Love to you & Parker from Sandra Napa valley California........❤❤
One thing I'd like to suggest to help stay cool, possibly, is to get a rechargeable neck fan. You wear it around your neck and there's a couple of fans you just point at you and turn it on. You can find them easily on Amazon or walmart or target.
Cool, in tape we trust!! Soon all you will need is a lift kit for the suspension and presto....overlanding is next!! Nice job Carolyn. Look forward to the electronic side of the install. 😁 Stay cool bud!! Of course you're always cool!! 😇👍
Of course I'm giving you kudos! But the main thing I'd like to suggest is, put a dish towel, of soe sort. Put it in your back pocket...or wherever...and wipe away your preporation so it doesn't burn your eyes! You are awesome!
I love how you prove that an independent woman doesn’t need a man to do things for her ❤️ Little ham Parker knowing that he was in that camera shot was epic 🐶❤️
Everything you did was great. Only thing I would have added would be to put the double sided tape on the middle ribs to to keep the middle from flopping in the wind. Hope that doesn’t happen. Very best luck to you.
Oh Gosh! I hope that holds! I know when Eterna Bond goes down it stays down! But I have seen people lose panels that were screwed onto the roofs. I have never been able to understand how solar installs. I hope your Part 2 helps! HUGS~Donna
I'd fill the voids between the ribs with 1or 2 layers of VHB tape to bring it up to even prior to the final setting of the panel. I would have also ran 1 or 2 layers of VHB tape between the ribs the width of the panel to give more contact area to hold the panel more firmly to the roof.
This was interesting. Didn't know there was such a thing as a flexible solar panel. Like the lady below I remember you on your first night out in your van trying to sleep in a parking lot, in the miserable cold and to top things off a suspicious vehicle pulling up beside you and hanging around.
KUDOS for another great share and video! You are certainly better than most, and proves it / you can do it! Also appreciate the use of alternative products, as not all the 'main' brands and hype:) All the BEST to you! Cheers! :)
Looking forward to part two to see what you chose for the other components and fuses in your system. You have done This all before, and it gets easier each time. Smart move to get out of the heat.
I don’t know much about electricity but you got me in to a looks so easy I can wait for your next video I wander what else we need besides the panels and the taping
Also how long it last, there's a lot of speculation the flexible ones do not last as long, but Carolyn is installing it in such a way, it will not be flexing much.
I oils have put it on long way and had the cables go in through the back hatch hinge area and used the eturnabond tape to hold the cables to the couture of that area either way it may eventually cause a leak
It may be easier to put it in place, then peal the tape off. You could also put the tape down the ridges that the panel touches. putting the wires through the window is asking for a leak. I would extend them as necessary and go in through the rear hatch.
@@CaravanCarolyn There may be an existing hole near the top for the stop light wires. Then fish them out once inside. just seal the hole well. Or like you said there is usually space to go into the top and around the outside of the hatch gasket and then into the bottom.
Never go outside to work without a headband to stop sweat from getting in your eyes. 🥵. I bought a pack of headbands of different colors to coordinate with my shirts. 👍. I was about to ask where’s Parker when his sweet little face popped into the picture. Just something about that little guy that steals your heart. ❤️. You don’t think we watch these videos to see you, do you! 😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. Just kidding. Always anxious to see what you will come up with next.
Nobody would ever know it’s there, well done. I wish I could send you some cool air, it’s 64 degrees with a nice ocean breeze here. Be well, and try to keep cool.
Carolyn is there nothing you cannot do. Now that is hot and i dont blame you for not finishing it off.you know we in last week in England it got up to 74 and you know us British yes we were moaning.but then its rare it gets that hot so conversation about the weather was rife. With some sleepless nights. However do you stick it to sleep. Take care.🐶🐶
I was reading up on flexible solar panels on the Renogy website and noticed this: Heat has been an issue in the past with simply glueing down panels to the roof, because the panels need a small air gap to dissipate any heat passively absorbed by the sun. Most installers recommend putting a spacer behind the panel. Do your panels mention needing an air gap?
It will be interesting to see how well these work for you. I cant believe how easy that was to install! Are you still planning to take your portable solar panels on trips?
