Thats how i do my knee braces, transom panel, and stringers, but with considerably lighter-weight core boarding because im not working on wave jumpers. This video is how most people think their boat is built, but only a small percentage of builders apply that level of workmanship and understanding of forces.

@@robertgray1214 And I take it your brain went (is) dead as well. Clearly, my eyes were not blind, otherwise why would I thank the authors and tell them I love their methods. It's pretty obvious I've seen what they were doing, in order for me to say that. It's obviously a little difficult for you to understand the concept of constructive criticism, so something good can be done even better. Try Googling about it so you can learn, but first ensure your brain is turned on, unlike when you made the bitchy comment to me.

@@robertgray1214 Wow. The poster had a valid and respectfully worded point of criticism and you resort to this? Point was the content is good, good enough for most to live with the audio track but it seems you don't realize that some people who take the time to critizise often do so in order to help others improve. I read it as such. Then again, I also thought the audio wasn't great - which is a pity as not everyone braves through it, I would think.

Use 5200 instead of CAB-O-SIL. CAB-O-SIL seems to crack over time, so it's best used for small fill spots. 5200 works much better in gluing applications like this. I noticed that boats I had done 5-8 years ago were coming back with cracks in the CAB-O-SIL, yet anything I had done in 5200 stayed solid.

@@peterelvenaes1088 ... that's interesting. So what you are saying is that you would make a fillet using 5200 instead of thickened resin?
@peterelvenaes1088
@peterelvenaes1088 Год назад
@@howechilds5060 Let me explain a little better. The way they're doing it in the video is absolutely ok, it's just that it'll for sure crack somewhere down the line (the cab-o-sil itself). Most boat repairs/builds have about 5-10 years of use in mind before needing overhaul/repair work and I'm sure their build will hit that mark, but it's just not how I would do it. I used to glue floors and stringers with cab-o-sil until I had a few come back for repairs about 5 years down the line. Each boat needed a repair because the cab-o-sil had cracked. This is a glueing application (bonding two things together), and for gluing applications I now use 5200/construction adhesive. Cab-o-sil is still a great product for filling (making a surface even before/after applying fiberglass), but I think you'll have better results in your gluing using 5200/construction adhesive instead. It's slightly more difficult to work with, but that stuff lasts a very long time. I once saw a 150hp motor hanging from the back of a boat with no bolts or bracket, just 5200 (it was during engine removal). You can still use some cab-o-sil on the sides of the stringers that you glass over, but between the stringers and hull or between the stringers and floor I'd use 5200. If you guys have any other questions feel free to hit me up.

where I live cabosil is not available, and shipping costs make it far too expensive, All my locals use Talc, which can be purchased in 25 lb bags and is much cheaper than cabosil and it does a very good job, but is a little harder to mix thoroughly, but worth the savings.

I was so impressed by the Coosa. Then I saw the butt joint to the plywood toward the stern. Wood has no place on my boat unless it’s decorative trim. Water will find a way. The strongest stringers at perpendicular to the mounting surface or direction of flex, yes is a bit more complicated to put a floor on.

Def using epoxy since it’s not wetting the material out all the way. The binders used in the material to hold it together till it’s wet out don’t dissolve in epoxy like they do in polyester. That’s why you’re not suppose to use those types of material with epoxy.
