I was super excited to install this sleek looking steam lever onto my Breville Barista Pro! I think it adds a nice, classy touch and is an upgrade from the stock plastic knob. I also realized after making this video that the "flush" indicator light will come on after ~200 shot cycles. I haven't pulled 200 espresso shots in one month; rather, I run a shot cycle before and after each espresso shot to heat up and clear out the grouphead. So I might start disregarding the light for 2 weeks or so in the future.

Referencing 1:47 Everybody should know that Breville cannot void your warranty just because you opened up the product. This goes for other manufacturers, also those warranty stickers/seals are illegal since it violates the 1975 Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act according to the FTC. It's best the everybody should know about this for the sake of right to repair. With that out of the way, thanks for showing this, just purchased the lever!

Thank for showing how to do this. I don't understand why Breville doesn't include a solid lever instead of the cheap knob. The machine cost almost $1000! You would expect that for the price.

I UNDERSTAND YOUR PONT BUT for the almost 1000 I would have expected a better grinder, the knob to lever swap is overall insignificant and purely aesthetics compared to the quality of the grinder.
@HijabsandAprons
@HijabsandAprons 2 года назад
Great point! I feel like they just stuck their standalone grinder (which can allegedly grind for espresso all the way to drip) in the machine and called it a day.

@@johnbalogna803 Hi, I don't have experience with grinders and this one seems to work well. What's the problem with it? Also, I wouldn't say the lever is just aesthetics, when you are holding the milk jar is so much easer to stop the steam with the lever than the knob, specially if you are left handed.

Thanks for the installation instructions. This works great and looks fantastic. I used PTFE lube and a Danco #99 o-ring. Eliminated the wingle and I expect will prevent any damage to the internal plastic parts that are part of this assembly. I suspect Crema made the handle for a different regional variant such as Sage or older variant. Unsure.

Hi @Hijabs and Aprons, I just got my Barista Pro few days back. May I check with you if its normal for the machine to release some water from the bottom each time you power up the machine? My drip tray and storage tray was taken out when I turn on my Barista Pro and I notice water flow out from the bottom. Will appreciate if you could verify and respond. Cheers!

Great upgrade, looks better. However the loose wiggle concerns me. Is there any way to correct this? Perhaps a reinforce plastic ring or rubber gasket ring that fits inside gap/space between the plastic housing and steel lever to help eliminate issue? I was thinking of hot gluing the space between the plastic case and the lever as a possible fix, but need to order a lever first. From the looks of it. Basically the only parts that are keeping the lever in place (which is too heavy for the plastic housing clip) are the two screws, and the plastic clip. Seems like the internal plastic housing could break easy.
@HijabsandAprons
@HijabsandAprons 2 года назад
It isn't as secure as I'd like, and I do wish it came with an O ring to fit snugly inside. I may have to get one myself to secure it further. If I do this, I'll make a video on it because I do find that I still turn the lever while holding the circular part of the knob, not just holding the stick part of the lever. Hope that made sense lol
@Milofchg
@Milofchg 2 года назад
@@HijabsandAprons It makes perfect sense. There are a few people that broke their plastic lever housing during installation or use. So far I have upgraded my Barista Express, single dose hopper, new bottomless portafilter, new portafilter basket, tension tamper, distributor tools, tamper station, single dose storage tubes. All I'm looking at is the Crema lever but until I start to see reinforcement mods and positive reviews. Then I will get one.

You're obviously using excellent fresh coffee and know far more than I ever will. Can you answer a question about grind size? I've got my Barista Pro set to a grind of 2 (with upper burr set to 4) - this machine is a 'new refurb' from the offical outlet store and I'm concerned that everything is not as it should be. I can see your grind is set to 6 - what's your upper burr set to?
@HijabsandAprons
@HijabsandAprons Год назад
Hello!! My burr is set to 3 and I usually float around a 6 or 7 grind size. Your burrs could've been replaced/brand new since the machine is factory refurbished. Every bean is different, though, so be sure to consider your actual parameters when dialing in!

Yes it is! I'm very much enjoying it 😊 though to be fair, I have nothing to compare to other than the Breville portafilter that came with my machine 😅 I know some people had an issue with the portafilter handle unscrewing a little bit when pulling the portafilter out of the grouphead, but I feel like I just compensated for it in my wrist movement somehow and it never happened again

How have you found the grinder on the Pro? Has it been reliable for you? If you could buy it again would you get a separate grinder?
@HijabsandAprons
@HijabsandAprons 3 года назад
Thus far it's serving me well!! I like the macro and micro adjustments. And for my needs it's great. My only gripe is the retention of beans. I lose up to 0.2g per dose depending on how recently I cleaned it out. I wasn't ready for a more advanced espresso machine just yet, but I do feel like if I could afford it, I would've gone with the Breville dual boiler and either a Niche grinder (if I could get my hands on one haha they're always sold out!) or maybe one of the Baratza Sette ones. I also wanted to mention that I'm more focused on refining my shots through even distribution at the moment. Though I'm learning how important the grinding is (some argue exclusively) and I could see myself getting a separate grinder eventually. Not for at least a year though, most likely!

@@HijabsandAprons Thanks for the response. I’m currently thinking about getting into the espresso world and I’m trying to decide between going with an all-in-one setup like the Barista Pro or opting for Bambino Plus + Eureka Mignon Grinder setup. Your setup looks so attractive, but everybody suggests keeping the grinder separate, I’m really leaning toward that route.
@HijabsandAprons
@HijabsandAprons 3 года назад
@@bin5803 Since I'm still a beginner in making and tasting espresso, I'm happy with the built in grinder and can see myself staying happy with it for a while. I was staring at my setup today and have to admit I do enjoy the...kind of all-in-one look of my machine as well as the compactness of it all 😅 I recommend watching "Hoon's Coffee" here on RU-vid and hearing what he has to say about the built in grinder too. He actually also has the Niche grinder and is really well versed in the Breville Barista Pro and Express, both. Good luck!! Lmk what combo you end up getting! 👍🏼

Hey mate. New to your channel but love the content. My question is when you replaced the lever, did you have a lot of wobble?? I just swapped mine over and it basically just wiggles all over the place.... Not sure if i am missing anything
@HijabsandAprons
@HijabsandAprons Год назад
Thank you! Yes it wiggles a bit. Some people experience more looseness than others; I recommend getting a rubber O ring to pop on at the base to keep it snug. I myself have yet to do this. The stock machine knob was light plastic, so switching to a heavy steel lever can cause an imbalance when attached to the relatively weak base/mechanism

@HijabsandAprons
@HijabsandAprons 2 года назад
Every couple months, only after the alert shows up on my machine. The Barista Pro is programmed to set off that alert after ~200 shots have been pulled; but that includes dummy shots (just water) as well (which I pull a lot of). So my estimate would be to run a flush cycle every 5-6 months unless you're actually pulling multiple shots every single day. Hope this helps!!

Hello! Nice video! I got the same machine and add the crema lever to my machine as well. The lever is so beautiful, however, a little wobbly due to it being quite heavy and the machine itself using plastic to hold the lever. One issue I have noticed lately is that after adding the lever it seems like the steam comes out too strong... and when I switch into hot water, a lot of steam comes out from the hot water outlet first, then hot water after. Do you have a similar issue? Or do you happen to know what might cause the issue?
@HijabsandAprons
