Thinking about adding a pickup to your harp? Join me as I install the P20 Dusty Strings pickup into my FH34 lever harp. Since I don't want to drill a hole in my harp, I will be using the Dusty Strings jack clamp. Super interesting! Super glue (cyanoacrylate) has an accelerant spray to make the glue bond faster. I wonder if it's safe to use inside a harp. The accelerant usually contains acetone.
It's the glue that Dusty Strings recommended and supplied in the kit. Some people use double sided tape, I opted to do exactly what Dusty Strings suggested.
@@annecrosbygaudetmusic Always a smart move! The glue you showed in the video is a cyanoacrylate "super glue" which bonds with both wood and metal ("CA8" on the label).
We have this pickup and jack clamp installed on Miriam’s Salvi Mia. You made it look so easy! It was tricky…but doable ❤. In the video you mentioned being able to plug directly into a computer. Would you please share what type of cable allows that capability? Thank you.
What an informative video! Very nice of you taking the time to record this video for us! ❤ May I please ask what kind of an amplifier you are suggesting (using)? Thanks a million ❤
Dusty Strings pickups Rock! I installed two P20s into the 2 DS Crescendos I have (one in Hawaii, one in Michigan), and just a few days ago installed a DS P10 in my 27 string Jessie Nightingale. I ordered the Jack Clamp, but at the last moment we decided to drill a hole instead (I kept the 1/2 Brad point drill bit I used for the other 2 harps.) Dusty provides excellent instructions, and I was very pleased with the job. Anne, I am intrigued how you record directly into your computer. I shall check you videos to see if you have mentioned this yet, but it would be interesting to see how you do,it. Thanks for all of the videos! ❤
I like the jack clip - I'd be leery about punching a hole in my DS. Looking forward to the sound because I may do that as well. (I want to use my harp with my guitar pedals!)
You have such wonderful teaching and presentation skills. I installed mine as Im quite handy, but doing a “how to” is altogether another skill. Love your videos.
@@annecrosbygaudetmusic yes, I have a Muma lll 36 Concerto. I had tried a couple different ones but didn’t like the extra noice and my tremor caused rustling. I have considered the Dusty P20 just never knew enough about it to justify the cost and shipping. Your video has taken my installation concerns away. Now I just wonder about touch noises or how extra sensitive it is.
Well, this was certainly well-timed for me; I've been considering installing one of these in my FH36, but was hesitant because I didn't want to ruin the instrument. This is an excellent guide that answered all my questions. Great tip on using the quarter as a spacer. I'm thinking this might be the time to take the plunge! Thanks ever so much for this excellent tutorial.
@@annecrosbygaudetmusic what amp do you use and/or recommend? I was told a keyboard amp or PA amp is best for reproducing the range; would you advise avoiding a regular electric guitar amp?
