Haha... That rarely works, trust me😁 try to look at it in a different way, at least if only you are interested in the pond, then no one can tell you what you can or can't do and what fish you can have or not have 😁
Another quality job young lady, fingers crossed it all works as you want it too during the height of the season. You made us laugh when dropping the return, not once but twice.. 😂😂😂
I know 🙄twice was a bit much. 😁Yes it will be really handy at the height of the season. I wanted to start working now. Nice ot be called young lady! I am older than you I think :😃
Hi Lau, nice installation of the protein skimmer, looking forward to the updates and seeing the water quality in the next video. All the best Coops 👍 🐟🐠🐟
Hi Lau, great video, and good head up for some of us looking to add new kit, the pond looks stunning you have worked hard, I've even shown people at work ie lazy men and told them look at what this lady has accomplished 😀, you really have the passion love your videos, the ending with pooch was a nice touch, miss my dog very much, happy spring.
Hi Scott, glad it could help. Sorry to hear you haven't got your dog anymore. Are you going to get another one? Take care and thank you for your kind words.
@@LauMagroTheFrenchKOInection Hi Lau, no to another dog, I'm on 12 hour shifts now, I had a white Staffie, from a pup, he hated me feeding my fish, but he would be happy to munch on there food, bless him, I've just ordered the same protein skimmer, I might add it after my new bio nunit I'm fitting, or going to run it of the tempest from wall skimmer back to pond.
Hi Lau, Protein skimmer looks good, You'll find all the bubbles that the pond returns leave on the pond will disappear quite quickly now. The skimmit could be a little darker, but give it time to settle down. Will be interesting to see how it goes 👍👍 I have now got mine back up and running, so the pond seasons underway 👍👍👍 Have a good one. Take care, Terry. PS Butter fingers 🤣🤣🤣
Butter fingers 🤣🤣🤣 Hi Terry - It was a bit darker this morning, not pale yellow anymore. I suppose it will get darker with more feeding? I am glad it is up and running now, ready for the feeding season. Definitely the most production is between 6 and 9am this morning again. Barely anything when I first went to check at 5:45am but then when I was drinking my coffee half hour later, it started. Looking forward to seeing yours again running
Some people suffer with foam and i must be lucky as i dont seem to get any it can be down to the food you are feeding i built a diy Protein skimmer and got a little but there was not anything to get for the most have a good week Lau
My original food for winter was probably not great until I swapped to ProBites but I think it's more to do with the fact that the pond is fully enclosed too. I don't get foam as such, I just get big bubbles. They are hard to regulate to start with. I just don't want that yellow tinge in the water so that will take it out too. I remember you making one in the eazypod. Have a nice weekend Martyn and thank you for watching as always
That made me chuckle. Going to be interesting to see the results as it progresses. You need to add a before and after picture or video so we can see the difference on the next one.
Well you know what it's like, always a little thing to do 😁 i am impressed with it I have to say. Great kit. On the up pipe? Yes, see you soon hopefully 😉
Very interesting video Lau, it seems to be working well. Please pass on my best wishes to Jeff, I think we have all missed his videos. Stay safe. Dave. 👍👍💯
Hi Keith. Max flow is 5000 l per hour otherwise it doesn't foam. It's working amazingly well. I am impressed. The foam is much darker now, I suppose it takes a bit of time and I suppose in summer with the feeding, it will be really coming out.
Great stuff Lau. It looks a very intresting bit of kit! 🤔 😊. Im looking forward to see how its works over the next few videos 😊👍🏻. All the best, Tel 😊🙏🏻😊
Thanks Tel. Quite impressed so far. Everyday it's 5 litres produced. The liquid is getting darker so it's working. Will do an update in a couple of weeks time
@@LauMagroTheFrenchKOInection nice Lau, im looking forward to it 👍🏻😊. I wonder who come up with the idea of it 🤔 did they convert a thingymajig into it for that reason? 🤔 very intresting stuff... 😁 do you have to boil that media in it like a tempest (aka thingymajig) ?? 👍🏻😂
@@jolleykoi5970 no, no boiling. That's why a pre filter is recommended. Water some from the tempest as my filter, then goes through the top and goes down in the protein skimmer. They have been around for a very long time.
Wow. Amazing Lau. Its a beautiful pond and the fish are absolutely stunning. I haven't seen protein skimmers on freshwater systems before and have been told its not workable and unnecessary. Clearly it is working on your pond and the foam appears to have reduced. Thank you for sharing. Do you have a followup video on this? Also if you could share how the system works to remove the foam.
Hi, thank you for the comment. Yeah I have release further videos but it's working fantastic. Quite a few people have got protein skimmer on koi ponds. They work great especially in summer and autumn.
Hi Andy, yes here the water quality from the tap is not great - but I knew that before I built the pond because of the other small pond before.... so max purification was required :-)
Be great to see how it works mid summer when your feeding more. Great job. Funny seeing you drop that fitting 🤣 I do that every time I do anything on my pond
definitely. I think I am expecting to see a darker colour in summer. Having it in place now helps me to regulate it and learning from it. Hate the foam coming out of it though. YUK :-)
Wow lau you are so more of a diy person than me ,looks like it’s working a treat for you ,you didn’t drop the rubber connection twice you were playing fetch with the koi 😂😂😂😂keep well lau speak soon
Great stuff Lau👌 now honestly how many times did you ACTUALLY drop the rubber fitting into the water🤔🤣 What is the idea of having to balance the flow to keep it between the two markers, what does that actually do?
I actually dropped it twice and once the spanner or whatever it's called 🤣 Balancing the water level regulated how much water 'stays' in the cylinder and with the air coming in from the air pump, it helps the bubbling and the foam comes out.
Bonjour!
Nice looking and reasonably compact unit. Will be interesting to see how much foam it produces as you increase the amount of food you feed your koi as the temperatures rise. Cheers.
Quite impressed so far :-) Gave up on trying to build it as I cracked the first acrylic tube :-) Tell you what, I didnt have butter fingers that day hahaha
Afternoon Lau👍😊. Great video, really interesting 👍. That protein skimmer looks like a great bit of kit, do you mind me asking where you got it from as I am seriously thinking of buying one instead of making my own? FYI I have now watched this video 3 times…..I must get a life🤣😂🤣. Stay safe👍🐟🈲😊
@@LauMagroTheFrenchKOInection surely the media would need cleaning though right? Even if it had a prefilter? And certainly if it came direct from the pond! I really like this actually considering getting one myself! Tarty but I like the blue media inside 😂
Thanks Mike. My next project... the garden! :-) and being patient untill end of april till I can pick up my fish from Gatwick Koi... Being patient is a project in itself 🤣🤣 Jeff is OK, busy like mad. Not sure he will with RU-vid. He barely had any time to himself at the moment.
Hi Katrina. I didnt have that last year but it started late autumn, no foam but big bubbles. Tried to build one and cracked the acrylic pipe so got fed up and bought one.
I have never suffered from foaming till we drained and cleaned the pond last May had a little last year but its got worse this year will have to look into getting one of these x
@@goldencorndiarys1458 protein is not just about the food, it's all the organic matter in the pond, that sometimes we cannot see but not necessarelly good for fish and can become an obsticle when it comes to treatment for the pond or the fish.
Hi Mark, no I bought it, it is called the Protein Skimmer Tornado 3. I tried to build one and broken the acrylic pipe and got frustrated in trying a second time... so gave up :-) Thank you for the nice comment
yeah me too, and as everything with plastic media, I could watch for hours the water going through it, Anybody with a tempest should put one after. It's shocking what comes out. But I will have to cover it, or it will be come green inside
Hi, I don't have foam either, just big bubbles, which started straight after I added the third tier in the shower. At the beginning of the winter, it wasn't a great food as it's all I had. Now on ProBites. Great food.
Lau I 🤔 that hanging plant above skimmer would look nice around or just in front semi camouflage, also lau what’s yr flow going through yr tempest to skimmer as thinking about getting 1 but I can’t restrict the flow that much . Looking good and shows. 👍🏻
The plant there was originally hiding the pipe from the tempest feeding the shower. but that was changed now. The uptimum flow through the Tempest is 5000l per hour. The max flow through the Tornado 3 is 5000l per hour. So it's running at 4500l per hour.
@@LauMagroTheFrenchKOInection I think I need to work out my flow ( Or find a chart) as I’m using an 8.000 not vari from oase skim 40 which pulls 2mtr then pumps up just over 120cm 4 sweeping bends which all close then to tempest then through uv then to kk vortex 5.000 and bk to pond be good to add protein skimmer on the return?
@@simonshears5182 i might be wrong, but it might be too much on the same line. Protein skimmer is better straight from the surface pond or preferably after a filter. The water needs to feed from the top, you might not have enough pressure to go through it.
@@LauMagroTheFrenchKOInection should of been a bit more specific but my kk 5000 sits in air above my kk 30.000 manor 4 bay which the kk 5000 has a slide type of return as nearly meter above pond to create top surface flow. Be a lot better if RU-vid would allow photos on thread . But many thanks 🙏🏻 Lau
