As someone who has worked for 40yrs in the home building industry I am truly amazed how great you are doing. I hope you are proud of yourselves you’ve taken on a incredible task and have nailed it. Love to you all ❤️
@@siesta7687 why are you putting this on these pages as what you’re promoting has nothing to do with a family friendly channel. I am sure there are many sites you can promote your site on that is more geared to you
As for the small opening at the facia. You might consider some half inch quarter round trim. It is a perfect place for wasps to get in and setup their own little homestead.
@@sallygreimes6585 It's only 3/4 inch deep, so no space for the bats. It would be a good idea for them to set up a couple of bat houses to help keep down the flying insect population.
Melissa, I love your thoughtful narrations at the close of each video. You and Jeremy are writing your own story. What a treasure you are making for your children.
I placed fine screen covers over my all my attic vents and installed a power vent to keep attic cool. My house is only one that survived the Tubbs Lane fire event.
The soffit just adds to the beauty of your home. The perception of how it will look upon completion is mind boggling! It's getting harder to await the completion of your dream home we are falling in love with and want more, every video you release. Jeremy, regarding the small gap between your soffit and facia, the only thing that would worry me is that the above ground wasps in this area love build their nests in every outdoor orifice they can find. This gap could become a big problem.
Great comment about the Soffit space being a potential home for wasps, etc. This is the first thing I thought of when I saw that space was left. It is okay that you beat me to it, because they've been warned............ good job!
The question, though, is what is the difference between those gaps and the soffit vents? Both provide access to behind the soffitts. If there were no vents then I would suggest doing something to fill in those gaps, and the tiny ones at the roof peaks.
My wife helped me shingle our garage 20 years ago. She had her butt firmly planted on the roof at the beginning. While she never got totally comfortable, she did loosen up by the time we were done
I'm so very glad to see the entire family healthy so soon. God has blessed you all with a speedy recovery, among all the other blessings he's given you. God has also blessed all of us by allowing you guys to share your family's joys and trials with us. Thank you for sharing, and may God continue to bless us all.
I AM BLESSED FOR YOU for TRUSTING GOD FOR THE NEW HEIGHTS YOU HAVE ACCOMPLISHED. A GIFT YOU GAVE YOURSELF. NOW YOU SEE A NEW A HIGHER VIEW. ISN'T IT AMAZING. I WENT ON OUR ROOF TOP. I LOVED THE HIGHEST VIEWS. ESPECIALLY WHEN I WINTER 🎿. IT IS BEAUTIFUL. THE LAST SUNSSET of the DAY before the cool nights begin. THANK YOU FOLKS. THAT Was so SWEET. Your child brought a big veggie basket with veggies. He was so HAPPY He brought home some dinner veggies. I love it. Mine are all grown up. It goes by way to F AST... CHOW from MICHIGAN. GOD BLESS YOUR HAPPY HOME.

You guys have saved an obscene amount of money doing all this yourselves. The house is looking awesome. AND you know it's quality workmanship since you did it yourselves
The children playing inside the barrel reminded me of my childhood. Closing the roof rafters looks absolutely beautiful and gives it gives it the finishing touch. I would close those little gaps as little animals can get in there and it would finish it nicely. You have come so far with all the work on your property since moving there, you can be so proud of yourselves. Have a great day.
You've stumbled upon the secret! "There was never anything holding us back, except ourselves". There is no limit to what we can accomplish with that mindset. Loving the progress and most of all I'm thankful all of you are feeling better.
Your soffits look so good! I love how your adorable helpers jumped in. I immediately thought: Awww... Your kiddos are making memories. Someday, they will say, "Remember when we helped mom stain the soffit wood?" as they look up and forward to more good and simple memory making.
You need to close that gap somehow on that soffit. Yes insects will definitely love that small gap, and a chance bats will too, bats only need about 1/4 to 3/8 to get in.
I had to tell you how MUCH I enjoy your videos ❤… they are a complete reset for me when I am down. I feel the shift the minute I hear your voice. I LOVE: - the way you and your hubby talk to each other - you two are great role models for marriage (and family)… your subtle humor is delightful! - the way you include, encourage and praise your children for their efforts… their attitudes and smiling faces reflect parenting done right! - the way you use fast forward; and include the scenery (and animals) - with the perfect music choices - the words of wisdom you share in closing - IDK how you find the time to make them; but know your efforts are greatly appreciated - by many - I am sure.
I am in awe of the dedication you both show towards achieving your goals. You're barely over covit and look at what you have done already. This home is going to look so impressive against your landscape. It's so much bigger than I thought at the beginning. God bless you both and your beautiful family ❤🌟 Thankyou for letting us come along for the ride.🌟
Hello Beautiful GSL Family 👋. Thanks for another great video. So happy to see y'all smiling and making progress on the house. Y'all have the cutest helpers. It's nice to see them outside playing and enjoying themselves. Love seeing all your adorable animals. Your inspirational comments are spot on Melissa. Hope y'all have a great Labor Day Weekend. Stay safe beautiful people. God Bless y'all and the homestead 🙏✌❤😊
So Melissa, you can relate when I enter Home Depot, I go straight to the lumber section to catch that wonderful smell. Also, @15:26, the kids rolling in that barrel, PRICELESS!!!
I like how when you started that the boards were so shiny that you could see the reflection of the zip writing on it. Excellent work!! Can't wait to see the next video. Glad you guys are all feeling better although Nevaeh has yet to make an appearance.
Looks great! Glad y'all are better! I would consider closing in that space somehow just because wasps will get in there - my friends have been fighting wasps in their soffits for years. They somehow get into the house. Just a thought...
good evening I am following you from Paris, bravo courage how do you be a police officer and build your own house 🏠 ????? I do not speak English I watch video I use a translator to translate, I cannot translate your writings or copy it too bad I look forward to your videos with great pleasure
@@leonjoseseban3776 Hi Léon. Jeremy is not a police officer. He resigned from that job before they moved to their new property in Idaho. He now works full time with Melissa on building their new homestead on their new property. I hope that helps you to understand a bit better. 🤗💞🙏✝️
@@leonjoseseban3776 ~ Here's what Heather Clayton-Callaghan said via Google translate. I hope Google did a decent job. "Salut Léon. Jeremy n'est pas un policier. Il a démissionné de ce travail avant qu'ils ne déménagent dans leur nouvelle propriété dans l'Idaho. Il travaille maintenant à temps plein avec Melissa sur la construction de leur nouvelle propriété sur leur nouvelle propriété. J'espère que cela vous aidera à comprendre un peu mieux."
Yes, I’m watching your video and avoiding house work. I LOVE 💕 watching your children playing outside and playing together. This is how I grew up. So healthy. I will say it again. Your view is amazing.
I love the endings to each of your videos. You're such a good writer and so expressive when you read it or say it the perfect ending to a perfect video😊
It looks gorgeous, well done. Poor you Melissa with STILL not being able to taste. You're still sounding adenoidal - or, as we say in the UK "bunged up" 🤣. Really hope you get "un-bunged up" soon. P.S. bloomin loved seeing the kids rolling each other around in that barrel. They're having a childhood I could only ever have dreamed of. ❤
The house is coming along. Watching ya'll working together is so refreshing. I would point out one little issue you may want to address on your soffit install, not to rain on your parade....the rib should be installed up hill and the channel on the lower edge so that moisture doesn't collect in the channels. Won't make a huge difference if you were building a typical house in a subdivision, but this is your "forever" home. Over time moisture in the channels will cause rot. Don't be discouraged by this. You two are doing great work overall. ...oh don't forget to address the nail holes in the "field" of the Zip panels to achieve the full water barrier.
1) AWESOME job guys!!!! 2) I wish you would have called... its too late now... but you could have started tight to the outside... you could caulk the inside...and you still have the thickness of your siding product (and most likely they will have like a j-trim type piece for the top) so you have some room on the outside.... with that said, your soffit vent choice is going to be much easier.... with not framing the soffit down so its flat (which is totally fine - I freaking love the way you did it) but you will need to go with a venting strip if you do not want to compromise the efficiency of your attic venting... you are already going to have a challenge keeping the attic cold in the winter (optimum is the attic temp is equal to the outside temp to eliminate the risk for condensation... NOT your friend in a cold climate)or heat loss to create ice dam issues. if you only put a vent per say every 2 or 3 truss spaces, you will not have adequate airflow under the decking.... It does not effect our area here in MN... but the fire/amber resident vents are supper cool.... good luck! oh, and if you need a trim piece out by the fascia... best thing to use is mull strip... its like 1/4" x 1.5"... again, good luck... you guys are rocking it
Seriously, you guys are so cute sometimes it makes me want to throw up! Love the content and this is completely a joke, I love the relationship you have and how much you show it in your vidoes!
The soffit looks great y'all!. We continue to enjoy each video that y'all share! Keep up the good work. As content creators ourselves, we know the struggles of publishing great content and balancing family life with a toddler! So again, GREAT JOB friends!
Great job on the soffit. A suggestion when you have repetitive cuts to make on the the miter set up a stop block to the length you need; that way you don't have measure each piece. It is nice to see you are getting better. Stay safe and take a break to let your body heal.
Well I've never enjoyed a commercial before. The company needs to hire you and pay you enough money to finish your house. And your house is looking fabulous YOU guys are doing a great job . sure glad you got tO feeling better
The Soffits are so beautiful. You two work really great together. I love that movie “Groundhog Day”. I hope you will dry up and get your taste back soon. You two and with the help of your sweet children, you have come so far. God bless you all.🙏🤟👍🙏
Love the soffits they look AWESOME and I Love the sweet loving BANTER between you two it's so sweet and your kids are so good natured loving and kind and your dog and cat gee I envy your life and I'm praying you don't suffer long covid and regain strength and taste and smell and all become 100% well again gee I'm so excited to see the next step in your build YOU GUYS ROCK sending Much Aroha from NZ ❤⚘😻
I love the suggestion re: starting at the facia and cover the gap with siding. Lol - “Temple of Doom” Kids in the barrel and working with the parents on their home-priceless!
Nice to see the kids better and out and about again. Rolling in a barrell is so much more memorable than staring at a screen of some sort all day. Great job guys, your Little House on the Prairie is looking fab....🙏🏼
The soffits turned out beautiful and the house it's turning into a home even with little imperfections that you guys may see makes it a stunning home. Until next video.
Great job on the soffit guys! You can use quarter-round concave shaped molding to close those little gaps. The job looks way too professional to leave those undone. Also, you could stain the strips before sealing it to give added contrast. Keep safe. Peace and nuff love from Jamaica!!
The “Saga of the Soffits” is now completed! And who would think that something so mundane would turn out so nice. You both did a great job; it looks really classy! 👍🏼
It's lovely that the kids are helping. I helped my Dad with projects when I was younger and it taught me a great work ethic and taught me to take pride in my accomplishments.
It's great seeing you both back at it again! And you all working in your house is always something to look forward too :) Definitely makes the house look better, and I also didn't know about the vents!
you are so correct, we often put thing off due to a fear of the unknown. Once we set that aside and face it straight on we realize that the victory was in taking the first step. Thanks so much for your great content. Have a great day and I'm glad you all came through just fine after being sick
I have taken care of some of "those things" this week. I took some paid time off from work and my son and I tackled them. The soffits really look beautiful! I'm sure it's the stain!
Hey guys, thanks for sharing another great video. I know this is a bit late, but a solution to the soffit issue was to keep the groove side of the board on the lower end, start working at the lower, fascia side, then your gap would be at the house side and taken care of by the siding and a bit of brown caulk. You could have also ripped a piece of your t&g board with a table saw if the gap was still a little large. Also, as many others are mentioning, do not leave that gap. It will cause you all types of funky issues in the future.
Make sure you close EVERY SINGLE gap, roof, windows and doors. Especially in the fall when they are searching for a place to over winter the nest. Those nasty little wasp can and do eat through wood and dry wall. We thought it wouldn’t be an issue until we woke up with an entire swarm in our bedroom one morning. Love your videos.
Great video guys. The installing of the soffits went smooth, you guys are rocking it, and the house looks even more beautiful now. Your kiddos have such a wonderful childhood, thanks to you guys. I have great respect for you, and for what you are accomplishing out there. Take care, stay healthy. 🙏♥️👨👩👦♥️♥️🙏
Sky Lifts have saved so much time in not having to erect scaffolding or work off ladders that is outlawed in many countries. One tip though make sure when you have excavations backfilled they are compacted properly, as you don't want a wheel sinking while up in the basket. Glad you are on the mend, we are in serious lock down here in Vietnam. Stay safe and always think twice.
