@@Pigcogames Yes and no. While most malware won't support the OS, if someone wants to target specifically you, and they see you're on 98, they're going to have a lot more exploits to work with.

I bought an old lady's computer for retro gaming: She had two free antivirus/malware programs. Create-a-card stuff, six different media players, toolbars galore in Internet Explorer, several different "end-cap" printer drivers and their programs (the ones they sell cheap at Walmart Target, etc) and everything she ever saved was literally saved ALL on the desktop, including her banking ( and there were 2 or three of those programs on there) So, yeah, it's amazing if they DON'T get viruses!

Yeah always amazes me lol. I've done this sort of thing too and it's actually harder than you'd think. I find searching for "free toolbar" really brings out lot of malware lol. With IE it's best though as you only need to go to bad websites to get viruses you don't even need to download or run anything. Still requires some effort to find the bad sites though.

Outlook was the biggest malware hole back then, and worms and macro-infected Word documents could make the computer unbootable. Nowadays it's just bundleware, adware and ransomware that you're tricked into executing yourself.

@@patcallahan1050 I bought an old Windows 98 PC a couple years back off eBay, for retro gaming. The lot was one of those real estate sales where they sell everything for whatever they get because the property got foreclosed on. I paid $15 for the computer, and when it came in, I booted it up. Upon first boot, it spewed an error about CMOS settings not saved, easy fix, replace the battery. Then, when it finally booted up, it had a 60 GB hard drive, and 40 GB of "adult content". Upon further digging, this thing was used as a website server for said content, and was in operation up to 2015. You'll find all sorts of interesting things from second hand lol

@@redsquirrelftw Yeah, in IE especially some sites can just run JS without you knowing about it. Never use IE in todays computers, it can really harm you. Edit: Or should I say, todays OS
