First we install jack lugs on the landing gear struts, then we get to installing the wings! Consider following Cleared Direct on IG at / cleared_direct_resources
I’m so glad I found this channel, keep killn it and get that thing finished can’t wait to see it in the sky, never even knew about these planes till you brought it up!!!!!
Right on! We’ll welcome aboard. Yeah they’re new planes and small production makes them scarce. You’ll start seeing more and more of them. Especially mine!!!
Stacking washers is totally no worries...especially grade 8 ones. Double especially when using lock nuts. That jack thingie is a great idea...tho with the non aero shape, you might end up losing 0.007 knots in cruise. DAMN YOU PHYSICS!!! Good thinking aheadsmanship laying out the bolts and required wrenches ahead of time. I probably wouldn't have thought of that and would have been forced to make some NSFW noises as a result. You must be super stoked that the wee beastie is looking like an airplane. Nicely done all around.
Hello Steve, I know this is late, but Aircraft Spruce is a great source for AN and MS Hardware. The washers that you showed looked like the L so when you see for example AN4 bolts take AN416 that is the common thickness while you see the thin washers are AN416L the L is the thin washer. I just discovered your videos and I like them, thank you for sharing.
Glad to see you re-torqued your wheels. And Typically you can use up to 3 washers. One under the head and two under the nut. There are two thicknesses, usually designated with a L for the light ones. I'm looking forward to the first flight!
@@markstoll9636 Well the RANS may not make it but Steve will! I’m planning on making it for at least a couple days. You’re in for a treat. What a special event.
Nice video. Asking from ignorance... What keeps the jack lug from rotating while loaded? I suppose the exposed locktite could be used as an index to be sure the torque is still good. No answer needed, just thinking.
Install the oil temp sensor and safety wire it and the mechanical fuel pump before you install the engine. Don't ask me how I know. 😂 Can you do it afterwards, yes. However, it's easier now. Also, drill your holes from one side then the other to keep everything strait on the aft spar bracket. Again, don't ask me how I know. Don't try and drill thru from one side all the way. Also, check with rans on drilling all the holes now. Tony said sometimes the angle of incidence doesn't need adjustment and if it does it just one wing and it will keep from drilling an extra hole now. Hope that makes sense.
Steve, looking back do you think it would have been easier to have the rear of the aircraft on a jack and have it level? Good video! Warms my heart to our flag on your wall!
Hi Mike, leveling the plane sure could’ve have hurt. It didn’t seem like it was a problem though. I’ll consider that next time. I have to take them off for paint later this month. Cheers!
On my builds, I've used the chain fall trolley in my shop AND a sheetrock jack when hanging the wings, they made it an easy one man job. I preferred NOT having help for such an important step, not having a helper made me really take my time and not feel rushed.
