In this video, I install Haloview's new Sens 3 Wireless Blindspot Radar System onto my 30 foot Keystone Cougar fifth-wheel trailer. I show how I hook up the power to my RV 12VDC system via the rigs running light circuit.
Then, I go through the control module settings and give you a quick demo of it in action on a freeway. Stay tuned in a month or two; after some real-world use and testing, I'll be back with my product review.
Fair Disclosure I received the Haloview RD7R kit free of charge as a review sample. I'm also a Haloview affiliate making a sales commission on referrals.

I finally saw the fifth wheel of blind spot monitoring product interviews. Good job, Haloview! I Hope that more manufacturers will follow up to make RV driving easier! More than just the camera!

My new GM has Side Blind Zone Alert, It is really a life changer. Now I just cannot drive without the blind zone assist, which makes me feel unsecured. Well, back to the Haloview sens 3, it's pricey but it works. Waiting for your real-world testing, maybe I'd like to purchase one for my fifth-wheel.

Big Truck Big RV did a review of the same unit recently. He used the strong magnet to attach to the bumper. I prefer your installation as a permanent solution! At the price point of 1K, the hardware/case looks very robust. As most RVers know, traveling down the highway and trying to change lanes can be difficult. This unit is a great tool to drive/change lanes for RVers, trailers or hauling boats. I knew you would clean up the wires, Lol! Thanks again for all you do making your videos and look forward to seeing your next video!

The version I installed is $799, so far it seem to work. I've noticed that when vehicles approach the faster they are going the further back behind us it gives the warning. Also the beep only happens on the passenger side which is good if mostly traveling in the right lane. Still testing.

Very interesting product. Most luxury cars with a factory BSD system, which is helpful for drivers, especially at night, rain, snow and other bad weather, sometimes it's not that easy to see the rearview mirror clearly. As far as the wireless feature, haloview is innovative, undoubtedly, compared with other brands of BSD such as Pioneer, RVS, Cub, WEBCO, ASA, Brandmotion, etc, you don't need to hire a professional to install the sens 3, this is totally plug & play, you can easily DIY and save a lot of professional installation costs, it definitely worth the price!

Blind Spot Detection is sold on etrailer. It seems that the installation is very complicated and requires professional installation of installerNet. I am still comparing, Pioneer, CUB, it seems that Haloview Sens 3 is easy to install and easy to use. I look forward to further road testing by Ray Burr. I will focus on it.

Suggestions for Haloview engineers: simplify by eliminating the two wired lights, give me two lights on the dash unit and options for two sensors for my truck for when I’m not towing.
@LoveYourRV
@LoveYourRV 2 года назад
Good idea Chuck. There are a pair of lights on the dash unit but they are fairly small. See here in action ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qqCB9Qx8ihA.html

You are gonna have so much equipment on your dash it will look like a FA-18 cockpit. That is kinda cool.

Love the video of the install. Once you finished unboxing everything it looked like it could be difficult. But... you showed it wasn't. Definitely interested in this product as our unit is 45' long being pulled by a 16+ foot long truck. Looking forward to your road test of it! Hopefully it's something worth the money after seeing your road test of it more.I would consider buying a set.

So far it seem to work well so far. I've noticed that when vehicles approach the faster they are going the further back behind us it gives the warning. Also when sound alert is set the beep only happens on the passenger side which is good since we mostly travel in the right lane with lots of vehicles passing on the left its just the light alert. On the right its lights up but can also beep, which is nice when vehicles are merging on freeway ramps.

This would be good to have for your long inclosed trailer. Seems to be very portable and could be used for many different trailers.

I frequently check my mirrors while driving, and always visually ('eyeball') confirm it's clear before making lane changes, but I do like "blind spot monitoring"--it does add a safety margin for my driving. Your demo at the end would indicate that the system works well. I wonder if the Halo radar will detect motorcyclists? The manual on our Mazda system (also radar based) says it MAY NOT always detect motorcycles or very small vehicles (though, in practice, it does seem to detect motorcycles reliably).
@LoveYourRV
@LoveYourRV 2 года назад
This one claims to be able to detect pedestrian as well at 15 meters and vehicles at 70 meters. But does say its just an additional aid. Cheers, Ray

Interesting but pricey! I would think that a rear view camera with good tow mirrors would be sufficient for most to see the traffic around you. Also, a lot of new trucks have blind spot monitoring that will work with trailers.
@Terry-cv9rz
@Terry-cv9rz 2 года назад
The camera is passive security, radar will actively alarm. Especially in the evening, heavy rain and other severe weather conditions, it is particularly important.
@ronpearson1790
@ronpearson1790 2 года назад
@@Terry-cv9rz True. Most rear cameras don't produce good images at night. For day time driving I still think relying on your eyes and mirrors over technology is best. Still can hurt to use radar with a rear camera and your mirrors. Every little bit helps.
@LoveYourRV

Yes, I find my large Ram tow mirrors and rear camera do an excellent job, plus I actually have side cameras too. So not really any blindspots on my rig But couldn't resist the chance to test out this gadget and see how it works.

Sorry, but for me this is one of those gadgets that would be nice to have that’s presented in a killer of a case (you’ll end up having to store but really won’t use again) that’s just not worth US$800. I really can’t get past me trying to explain to my wife that spending that kind of money is logical as I now have poor driving habits that I requires flashing and beeps. Hmmm. I can’t wait to see where the case shows up in your next storage video. You can call it, Where’s Waldo? Have a Merry Christmas!

Case is sitting on my battery box in the front storage on a rubber mat so it doesn't move around. It will be repurposed to carry other things. :)

What Do Some Automakers Call Their Blind-Spot Monitoring Systems? FORD:BLIS with Cross-Traffic Alert GM:Side Blind Zone Alert Toyota and Lexus: Blind Spot Monitor Honda and Acura: Blind Spot Information System Nissan and Infiniti: Blind Spot Warning Volkswagen: Blind Spot Monitor Audi: Audi Side Assist Mercedes-Benz: Blind Spot Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist BMW: Active Blind Spot Detection Volvo: Blind Spot Information System There are more and more active and safe driving products for cars, and they are developing towards autonomous driving. However, there are still relatively few active safety products for RVs. It seems that haloview's blind spot monitoring products are very suitable for the fifth wheel, which will greatly improve the safety of driving the fifth wheel.The human pursuit of safe driving is endless!

Looks like it works well but for $800 I would expect a color touch screen on the control box instead of those crunchy sounding buttons being played on what sounds like a hollow box.
@johnfr5065
@johnfr5065 2 года назад
Yes, it works amazing! This unit is designed to make it easier to use. The color touch screen is not necessary for this kind of product. Unlike the backup camera system, it is an actively safety system, you don't have to watch it all the time! (This is what I think is the most valuable.) The main feature is to actively remind the user that there is an incoming car behind, you can't change lanes, and the color screen is not power saving. ADAS system is more stable than a reversing camera, and the signal will not be lost in any environments. Such a simple design allows users to easily DIY the system.
@LoveYourRV
@LoveYourRV 2 года назад
I think a touch screen was likely avoided as the box sits on the dash. Usually sun and heat are pretty hard on color touch screens. Just a guess...

Interesting…. But can it be installed to blind spot monitor? I.e. the area behind and to the sides of the rear of the rig is very visible in the mirrors and not a blind spot. I’d like to monitor the actual blind spot since my factory blind spot monitoring shuts off in tow mode.

Marry Christmas.I have a question: can the device use sound to alarm?
@LoveYourRV

Yes, it has an option to beep when a vehicle enters in range. There is also 4 levels of volume and light.
@johnirwin1837
@johnirwin1837 2 года назад
I may be wrong, but during your working video clip it looked like it did not alert at 70 meters. More like it did not alert till a vehicle was right at your bumper.
@johnfr5065
@johnfr5065 2 года назад
It only alarms when two vehicles' speed difference exceeds a certain value, for instance 37mph, and this value can be adjusted as needed.
@LoveYourRV
@LoveYourRV 2 года назад
I think it due to the mirror view, maybe things look closer and speed of the cars. I was doing about 55-60 and most of them were doing at least 80. Looking in my rear view camera could see it was alerting a fair distance before bumper. I'll need to use it a lot more to get a feel for the average distance.

Interesting idea. But, I am wondering where this will ever stop. Rear view cameras, side view cameras, tire pressure monitor, radar blind spot monitor, dash cam for front, dash cam for inside, GPS, Smartphone or tablet.... Wow... All taking valuable real estate on your dash, potential distraction from seeing what is going on on the "real viewc, right in front.... Feeling a bit overwhelmed I guess.
@LoveYourRV
@LoveYourRV 2 года назад
I've been able to keep my dash fairly uncluttered view-wise. My forward vision is pretty good, I keep things out of my sightlines, better than most cars on the road. Here is a look www.loveyourrv.com/truck-cockpit-view-when-towing-gauges-gps-and-cameras/ For me I don't see the instruments as distracting, they help me pay closer attraction to what is happening around me and with the vehicle's engine and rigs wheels. But I guess it all depends on the person and how well they are able to concentrate. Most of the things I'm not looking at all the time. But they're for me if I need them. Cheers, Ray

Yeah, I think if a person was to start out with everything it would be overwhelming, slowly adding things over time is the way to go. Lets you get used to things. Kind of like when some one that has never RVed before suddenly buys a huge Class A diesel pusher, the dashboard is like a jet plane. :)

@LoveYourRV
@LoveYourRV 2 года назад
Not so much for my truck since it has excellent mirrors and I have rear camera as well but its proof of concept for people looking for a solution to blind spots. A lot of the big transport trucks are using it now and some motorhomes come OEM with radar. Its an extra tool if you don't happen to be looking in your mirror or the weather or darkness makes the mirrors less useful. Cheers, Ray
