Instant Coffee Shootout..Folgers vs Tasters Choice 

After you add the hot water, you really need to let it sit for a few minutes. That will allow the hot water to finish completely activating the crystals and will allow that horrible instant coffee smell to dissipate. Then it''s actually not bad. I prefer Taster's Choice because it's supposed to taste like percolated coffee and----if you let it sit for about 2 minutes after making it----it actually does taste almost like perked coffee.

I love tasters choice it just seems more fancy for me

Thanks Jason for sharing your side by side taste test. It’s easy for me to get Trader Joe’s 3 in 1 or online to get a box of Nescafé 3 in 1 which I prefer over Folgers or tasters nasty. Thanks again for the taste test and ATB Mike.

I've tried both and the Taster's Choice is much better. My "real" coffee is generally Eight O'Clock regular and Folgers - in any form - always has that "mass-produced" coffee twang of strange flavor.

Great comparison .. I have used both of these on trail ! To me , on trail , coffee is coffee ...I won't complain either way ! However, , if I had to choose, it would be folgers

Yaaaa...we did a taste test, and went with Starbucks Colombian packets...just richer. Unless you’re David Gray who ONLY drinks Dunkin! Great review, and I’m with you...creamer all the way!

When I worked full-time I kept instant Folgers packets just like those in my desk in case of emergencies :) It was the best alternative for me when I couldn't get to a fresh brewed cup. I've never tried Taster's Choice, but I don't don't like bitter coffee, so I appreciate your review. Won't even go there. I use Cafe Bustelo instant expresso when I bake sometimes, it's pretty good stuff too. I'm a new friend to your channel, big like no. 20! I hope we can support each other! Have a wonderful week!

I love instant coffee

I prefer taking folgers with me on the trail. The way you described the taste difference is how I would compare the two. Great side by side! Lately I have been taking my Soto Helix coffee dripper and the extras to make fresh coffee. Sure its a bit more weight, but the overall experience waking up to some fresh hot coffee is much more greater.

my go to is folgers with a hot chocolate pack mixed in. poor mans mocha.

I guess i'm the minority here. I like my coffee black so the bitter is what i strive for, plus all the other nuance flavors you taste when coffee isn't masked with a ton of sugar and milk. I usually drink the Tasters darker Colombian Roast, so its a much darker and bitter flavor. There is also a freshness to tasters that I don't think any other instant coffee captures. notice the white lacing in the cup when you first pour the water. It's the same kind of lacing when a barista pulls a shot from an espresso machine meaning Tasters figured out some way to capture that in the freeze drying process. Anyways coffee taste is a subjective topic and is different from every persons individual preference. I've tried Folgers and it is a lot more bland, which I suppose translates to smooth to a lot of people. Any ways great review.

You used the same spoon in both cups, kind of contaminated the flavor. Also in my opinion 6 ounces of water or less needed. 8 ounces and above will result in a watered down brew
