I have remained single since my children's other parent and I split over 10 years ago. I didn't want to bring someone into their lives, them get attached, things not work and my boys get hurt. There are a lot of things I will never be able to protect them from, but the things I can control I will protect them from.
Women choose their partner over their children for many reasons. Economics, low self-esteem, and security. women earn less than men due to lack of opportunities, societal norms, time off to have children and cultural beliefs. If a woman is raised in a home with violence she’s much more likely to accept those conditions. Our society needs to make major shifts in order to prevent these situations. Financial help for single moms, raise girls with dignity and strength and purpose, equal pay for women are some of the changes we need.
I dated a woman whose son did that to me. I turned around and walked out. She tried to explain and excuse his behavior. I kept walking and never looked back. You can't allow your anger to touch a child.

After the judge did all that explaining about the importance of putting children first and not bringing criminals around her children, she was still worried about trying to get his charges dropped. Good grief, she learned nothing!!

She is a self serving woman who puts romantic relationships above the needs of her children. Which is a perfectly reasonable thing to say in e.g. a robbery case or something like that. Not in a case where a man hit a child.
“When you lie down with dogs…” means “The other people were the bad ones, I just associated with them for too long and picked up their bad habits.” So who were the dogs he lay down with? The child he hit? Or is he saying the other parents influenced him to hit children? I don’t think he knows. He just wants to push off responsibility any way he can.
I was thinking that it was an undercover insult to the kid's mom/woman he was DEFINITELY dating, for having a unruly child. If so, then he's a garbage individual.

It was a TikTok challenge where you smack an unaware person. The kid smacked him. The defendant later smacked the kid back. I agree, it was dumb and he should never have engaged. But Even the prosecutor recommended probation. 13 months was a bit much.
Not once did he apologize to the child or to the Court or do anything that in any way shape or form showed remorse or regret toward the child that he injured.
This was no accident…..this guy is full of crap….and the woman should put her child first. That’s a grown man….and I get defense attorney has a job but I do wish he’d be quiet. At first I was wondering why Judge Boyd was being so hard on him… then the pieces started falling into place. This was like a little detective show, as the facts of the situation became evident, one by one. Cut very well.
“Don’t lay done with dogs.” Geez. The big gun attys., in a panic, jumped right in. (The defendant really probably didn’t know a better way of expressing himself, but…). The new atty. (the defendant’s atty.), learned a lot with this one.

It's actually a fantastic visual of the anger process of this guy and how hard it is to keep his anger in.
This judge really cares for the children impacted in these cases. I like the way she dresses down these parents and makes them understand the errors being made with these children. San Antonio is lucky to have her. The families are lucky to have her even though they may not know it or think it at the time.

I have no doubt he has put his hands on her, and she's afraid of him. He was having difficulty holding his anger in and wanted to speak, but his attorney wouldn't let him. He had 2 females telling him what to do, and he was not happy. He believes he's superior to females.
That mother is NOT going to obey those rules! Her attitude from the moment she walked in spoke volumes! She doesn't care what the judge said or the rules she put in place! I'm glad those kids are nearly of age to get away from this obvious toxic situation!

22 years ago the profound instinct to protect my baby caused me to immediately stop smoking. That instinct didn’t diminish once she and her siblings were born. It intensified 🤦🏽♀️we do everything as parents from placing caps over electrical sockets, baby proofing even grandparents houses, we take classes and do everything to ensure we are protecting them at all times! So I will never ever understand how any mother can carry a baby and neglect them, abuse them or allow someone else to abuse to them. She didn't want to waste her time with the mother's song and dance about how it wasn't his fault, it was an accident, etc. She already heard that from the defense. (This is also why the defense did not ask her that question - they know the judge doesn't want to hear it again and isn't going to credit it.)
I wonder, if the mother had been in the courtroom to hear him say "Lay down with dogs .......", if she would still have wanted to have his charges dropped.

She could be a newer attorney or switched her area of practice and he’s supervising her. 🤷🏻♀️ It’s unusual to have two defense attorneys for a case like this so that’s what came to mind for me.
Notice the more senior partner stepped-in to attempt to save her client. But it was too late. He was not properly prepped. Notice to young attnys just because you have a plea agreement in place with the state doesn't mean this sentencing hearing was a formality and a time you think it's over other than acting like you're at the Oscar's and wanting to thank everyone.

He needed to say I take responsibility for my actions it was a poor choice for me and that I learn to not make impulsive decisions and realize this was wrong for me to react to this child. I am confident that I am thinking more about my actions how this could of been even worse. I apologize to the young man and his family.

I almost wish this judge had overseen my issues when I was young. It’s many Years later but I can’t help but wonder if hearing this judge speak would that have snapped my mom out out of her fog and would she have made the decision to choose me her daughter vs her SO. I guess I can’t complain to much because my history lead me to have a future that I am very proud of in the end.
@@dianabodemer1889 thanks! I did earn everything but I can’t say it was totally by myself I had a great support group but it was my will and determination that allowed me to take finals while in a hospital bed and then go on to open up my own practice and give healthcare to those in need.
I admire Judge Boyd and her judicial restraint. Were I the judge, as soon as he uttered that line about "laying down with dogs" I would have thrown that plea bargain out of the window and sentenced him to the maximun possible penalty.
Court can often be like a job interview. Come prepared with answers to such basic questions, like "what have you learned?". That involves taking responsibility for your actions. Not blaming others for your actions.
If this man is willing to hit a child, could you imagine what sort of ANGER he is willing to show towards an adult....think about that for a few seconds!
This judge, in my opinion, is the Best I’ve seen. She doesn’t make hollow threats and she takes every case very seriously. She has a genuine concern for each defendant and perpetrator. It is her intent to truly help all parties involved take responsibility for their actions and fully understand what they have done. She wants them to see what’s happened without making excuses and not twisting the facts. If more judges were like her, the world would be a much better place and there would be less repeat offenders. I. have learned a lot from the wisdom she has and her willingness to keep things real and make sure things are done in a way that will change the course of these people’s lives for good!
Judge Boyd tells this woman this guy is to have no contact with her or her son and her question is what is going to happen to the guy? This woman's priorities are all messed up and she has no intention of abiding by the no-contact order.

By the very nature of my (long retired from) career, I have worked with people low in the wisdom stakes and others in the King Solomon league - I put myself about half-way twixt the twain as I have made some knee-jerk decisions before. Judge Boyd, imho, would have made a fine and upstanding adviser in the court of that ancient King of Wisdom.
I cannot tell you how much I admire this judge. Her instructions were clear and unequivocal. The one question I would have liked to hear of the mother; why are you interested if the charges are going to be dropped? The answer might have been enlightening. However Judge Boyd made her decision clear immediately. And She gets an A+ for her actions in my view.
“There’s people with guns here, they can go and get her” what an ignorant statement by this attorney. A firearm is a defensive weapon used by n life threatening situations, not to threaten someone to comply. It drives me nuts when ignorant people imply or outright make statements that they are scared of police simply because they have a sidearm.

His Public Defender looks extremely uncomfortable. I have seen this cretin previously where his very experienced and knowledgeable Public Defender requested to be removed. He stated that he had never been so appallingly treated, insulted and disrespected as he was with this turd. The judge allowed him to withdraw but then the defendant wanted a new public defender and the judge told him to pay for one himself , that he was not going to get another attorney for nothing just because they do not do everything that he wants. He is a revolting piece of crap, and any woman who has children and doesn’t protect them should have them removed from her custody. Your children ALWAYS come before any man, and why would anyone want this so called man. Why is she so desperate for a man? She makes me sick to my stomach.
