Instax Mini 99: FujiFilm's Best Instax Mini Camera Ever - Review, Crazy Features, Breakdown, Images 

What does everyone think of the LED driven lighting effects? Yay? Nay? Okay? Old Bay?

The first Instax camera made by Fuji I’m interested in in a very long time. They need to show this type of love to the Wide format.

I’m at a loss for words. The number of features in this Mini is incredible! I really wish they’d invest into making something like this for their Wide format.

Gives me hope for another feature-rich square camera.

Oh dear god please make this in instax wide. I have some relatively ancient instax mini cameras that still take beautiful, sharp and tiny little photographs. I love them and they have long-outlived any lomography mistakes I've made in the past

Maybe in 20 years they'll make an Instax Wide camera with all of those features lmao. That being said, I enjoy the Minis, so I'm excited they've revisited the format again and not with just another basic point-and-shoot.

Something that’s interesting that nobody is really talking about is how the LED effects are also effectively increasing the abysmal dynamic range that can sometimes limit instax film. I’ve seen examples of people pre-flashing instax to achieve more detail in the shadows while keeping the highlights intact as well and this does the same thing in practice. Would we all absolutely lose our collective mind if they made one of these bad boys in wide? That’s a resounding and unequivocal hell yes brother!

This is so cool. If they made this exact camera but for wide film, it would be one of the best selling instant film cameras of all time. The wide film is absolute perfection in quality.

This video was lovely. The way you work through talking about the camera and your attitude towards things along with always showing what you’re talking about makes for such a great watch. Thank you! Even tho I just picked up a square terracotta instax. This is looking like a good choice for a mini shooter!

Favorite Instax mini cam is still the Lomo Automat. Seems to have everything this does except the weird light effects stuff. And the vignetting on the Lomo lens is built in 😅 plus a longer bulb mode and remote shutter in the lens cap. It still holds up!

Well Fuji you are doing very well, now release this in a wide version and we call it Instax wide 410.

Looks nice, strong controls. Tempting. For the future, I’d love if Fuji took a swing and designed some new lenses for Instax. The 60/12.7 is surprisingly good, but options would be cool. F/8 would be nice, and maybe worth considering a longer focal length, to shorten depth of field a touch. A 75mm f/8 would still probably do a good job zone focus on Instax Mini, but it’d offer more creative control. Although what I really want is an ultrawide. If they did a square Instax with a 42mm lens, it’d have the field of view of a Hasselblad SWC, for everyone out there who can’t afford a Hasselblad. Even Instax Mini with a wider angle lens could be a lot of fun. 40mm would work out to something like a 22mm FOV in FF terms.

This would be an instant buy for me in wide format. Those lighting effects are rad and channel the lomography style cross processing look. I'm tempted to buy this to show support, but I already never reach for the mini I have.

Instax cameras are basically instant film box cameras that depend on fixed hyperfocal focus. If they gave them a wider aperture than they have, it would be impossible to get anything in focus.

I am going back and forth about buying this one or the Evo, but I can't decide! They both have awesome features. I like the fact that the Evo allows me to not waste so much film, but this seems like the best instant analog camera they have ever made.

Holy moly, what a surprise! I want it! Feels almost like a real life Hipstamatic camera. I wonder if the LED effects would work on bigger formats though, hope they can figure that out. Being able to give a warmer tone to a film that is generally pretty cold (I think) is so appealing to me. I think I might buy this as my first Instax camera just because of how fun it seems.

Cannot wait for this! "film simulations" on an instant camera, cool. We need a Square version and for the love of God, can we please get a new Wide camera?! Ordering one as soon as it's up. Hopefully soon.

As someone with a Mini Neo 90, this is definitely an improvement and a nod to those who want more control over their instant camera but don’t want to shell out $600 for the new Polaroid SX-70

Cant believe I managed to get my hands on a Mini 90 a couple months ago for them to release this now

Damn, I've been a long time photography enjoyer and a watcher of your channel, but only recently got into instant film with a polaroid onestep 600 that a relative found in their basement. This thing's cheaper film and more advanced features might be just what I need in an instax mini camera. Though the lomo instant is definitely strong competition.

Happy with all the ergonomics ideas of this camera and really hope they incorporate them (and build quality as well) in the next gen of the EVO.

Can't wait for the release!

That looks awesome, I just wish instax film was larger for me to finally make the leap. I can't seem to get excited for 6cm images that are sure to end up filed away and never seen again.

7:15 It's the size of the lens elements and design that dictates the maximum opening. So to make it faster they'd need to redesign the lens. And if you make it larger, you lose depth of field.

This is gonna be my first instant camera. Bought some film in advance. Never cared for the other minis except the 90 (which I somehow missed). Liking it a lot. If sales go well we might get a square and wide as well 🤞

Glad to see a sequel to the Mini 90! Just bought a Lomo Automat Glass a few months ago after my mini-90 developed battery drain. I think the Lomo edges out the win here with its glass lens and remote control, but this is such a cool camera nontheless! I'd do unspeakable things for a Wide version

Damn I just had an epiphany. For some reason Fuji’s pricing for a 20 exp pack of instax film goes like so: Mini: $16.99 Square: $19.99 Wide: $18.99 The image size of wide is exactly twice the width of mini, as we all know this is the same film just cut to different widths. Could it be that since Fuji is making almost twice the profit margin off mini film they have more of an incentive to push that format with new and better cameras while they let their line of wide cameras languish behind? It seems like the most logical reasoning. Imagine they release an amazing wide camera and everyone is clamoring to buy up wide film but the film brings in significantly less profit, they would have to raise the price of wide and we all know how the film community responds when that happens.

I own 89 types of original Polaroid cameras, Peel apart, Sx-70, SX70 box type, 600, spectra, for dentists etc. and I love them. And everytime somebody around me mentioned Instax I was disgusted... But now, right here I just love this. It is Instax, It is analog, and you can apply filter with internal lights? All features are analog? Wow, I love it. This camera with Square format is what I need, what i want but I am totally ok with mini format right now - and I'll buy it!

The Mini 10 has also 2 shutter buttons, I'm gonna get this one too, just for my collection :) Hopefully they will also make a wide or square

Regarding the Aperture... I believe this camera has a crop factor of 0.56, which makes the lens about a 34mm FF equivalent, and the aperture of f/12.7 @ 60mm is actually equivalent to f/7.1 @ 34mm on full frame in terms of DOF. I don't think they could have gone with a wider aperture without a decent autofocus system. It is actually much better than the f/22 FF equivalent on the mini Evo.

Curious that the Instax 8, without all the blows & whistles from later iterations is easier to use with studio strobes thanks for being a dumb camera. You manually select the best suited aperture, hidden behind comically icons for outdoors, indoors and so on. Hope they still use those oddly simple to use cameras with variable, bladeless, irises.

Yep give us this but wide, with multiple apertures and a plain white light mode to pot flash for dynamic range and im there. Half want to just buy it to encourage them, but as a poor person ill have to stick with my automat glass.

I was super excited until I saw that the dial was for color. I wish it were for aperture or shutter speed. I do, however, think the vignette tool is nifty!
