Love the positive content. There are a million dive channels that feature failures. This is a bit more unique. Obviously RB divers tend to be the easiest “good” divers to find but if you can find good rec ones that would be a bonus. There are plenty out there. Whether they’re on video is another question. 😆
With respect to long hose with rebreather loop, I am about to purchase my chest mount O2ptima, and will be taking the class in March. Of course I will be discussing this topic with my instructor, but would like to hear your thoughts on this. First of all, I love the fact that the ChO2ptima will integrate nearly seamlessly with both my existing side mount and back mount configurations (i.e. when I bail out I will be diving the exact OC config I have been using for years), and the long hose around the back of my neck will not end up under the loop (which comes from the front, not over the shoulder). But the one snag I see is that the long hose on back mounted doubles would normally run diagonal across my chest, which would put it under the chest mount rebreather. My thought would be to instead put on the RB first, then run the long hose around the bottom (instead of under a canister or in the belt) and then straight up the left side and around my neck. What drawbacks do you see in this routing? This is not a problem in side mount, as I have always put my long hose on my left SM tank so it won't have to cross my chest and so the short hose can come from the right tank directly to my face without going around my neck. This will also work perfectly with a CM RB, in my opinion. Do you see any issues with that?
As far as sidemount goes, that's basically what I do with my sidwinder. I just run the long hose stowed mostly in the bands and clipped to my right shoulder. That should work just fine. For the doubles I think if you want to run the long hose traditionally then putting on the choptima before running your long hose is safe, you're just gonna have to decide if it's in your way or not. I haven't had the opportunity to dive a cm ccr yet so I can't be sure. I'm sure your instructor will have some procedures you can start with before you come up with the way you like to do things (or how your team will do it.) You must be mistaken. Are you REALLY saying that free beer left at your house ISN'T your favorite beer? No cost! No effort! FREE BEER! I agree on the single file while air sharing on the long hose. But, then again, I'm a California diver and single file through kelp "is the way." BTW, this video supports my theory that regular open water divers who don't suck are a rarity. You had to go to side-mount and rebreather divers to make this video.
You can't get those hydrophobic cannisters anymore and nobody could work out how to refurbish the coating on them. It does sound like there's money to be made on that tech because I think people would use it. I suspect patents prevent it from being made by other companies.
Yeah, there a few still in use. Brian Kakuk in the Bahamas has a modified kiss sidekick that takes the old cis lunar scrubber.
