@@smartdrivetest i'm having a ball! I went around Long Island first, next Jersey Shore, on Sunday may go upstate. Deers advice was practiced last week. :D
Never thought you get Big Mac as your instructor. These crossover episodes are great. He's had some... eventful driving exams on his channel but they do serve as a great examples of what not to do.
*Hey PeninsulaCity2024, crossover episodes are great! I enjoy them too on other channels. So you have been on my channel too. That's great!* #BigMacSam
I want test reform in New York I feel the instructors mark a lot of students on nitpicky bullshit and make false claims about things on the road I think all of these tests should be recorded with a front cam and an optional face came to watch the 5 minute recording and contest some of these instructors poor and or biased calls
Actually, I don't find New Yorkers all that bad my friend. I can tell you the double parking can be a bit intimidating, but otherwise all good. Cheers Rick
People drive WAY worse in upstate NY in the “country “ area. Also less traffic so the bad drivers end up speeding. Also people start driving a lot younger too.
Being a Bronx native, I now don't feel so bad that I failed my first test. If it can happen to Rick, it can happen to anybody. I did get it my 2nd try tho haha
*Yeah, there are many that don't pass the road test the first time. I've had a guy that failed the road test 11 times in the span of ten years. He was not my student. I just took him to the road test. Very unfortunate.* #BigMacSam
@@BigMacSam that amount of determination is insane. Is there a point where the adjudicators have to prevent someone from getting a license? 10 years is a long time
Most places in the country, driving is a necessity, so it's only fair that they let you keep trying. In NYC, it's not strictly a necessity, but then you're limited on what you can do and where you can go, and if you decide to move elsewhere, again, you're stuck.
I tend to disagree my friend - everything depends on the student. It's up to you to take away the driving examiner's right to fail you. Most of the driving examiners, most of the time are fair. Glad you enjoy the content. All the best, Cheers Rick
I failed my first time, I was super nervous and my instructor kinda intimidated me afterwards I was super sad but I tried again and I passed! This instructor was super nice an even started a conversation ✨😌
I'm a bit blown away by how many big vehicles are just stopped in the road there, making it necessary to cross on a double solid. That must feel so sketchy if you're not used to it!
Yes, if you're not familiar with moving around other vehicles, it can be a bit nerve racking. However, with a bit of practice, you can do it my friend and be comfortable. Drop us a note if we can help further. Cheers Rick
2:14 is so true. Especially when you have to cross the double yellows. You’ll be sitting there all day if you don’t get aggressive when you see the smallest gap and force to other side to let you go lol.
4:07 instructor who's driving has already failed the road-test even before he started turning right on Red light - he missed the stop line & stopped on a pedestrian crosswalk. The reason he did it - he was talking during driving. Sum up: don't talk while u're driving!
Nope, it wasn't because I was talking; rather I was distracted by the car on jack stands that was double parked on the side of the road. It held my attention for a moment too long and I made a mistake. Actually, if you're talking through what you're doing when driving, it will help you to learn faster. See this vid: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-91fc2N1-5sw.html Drop us a note if we can help further. Cheers Rick
I fail today!! I can’t believe it! I drive for 20 years in Europe I never have an accident my teacher was confident I was super ready ….anyhow hopefully I will be more lucky next time
Another thing you have to worry about here Rick is the expressway traffic during rush hour in the Bronx and Neighboruring Essex Hudson & Bergen Counties, NJ along with Queens, NY because you are going to find drivers do unsafe Maneuvers while in a traffic jam happened to me and my mother in Queens,NY last month.
I got everything right and got an automatic fail towards the end of the test because of a guy who hesitated to take a right turn went straight through instead and as a result I had to take a left turn on yellow. 🥺🥺🥺
Hi WDJD World - Unfortunately, we can't comment because we weren't there. Sorry to hear about your unsuccessful attempt. We're confident that you'll get your license on the next attempt. If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick PS - see this vid: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sWRSNB1iiuQ.html
You can do it my friend. Often it’s easier to pass a test from brand new. I have to unlearn turning right on a red light- that’s tough. You’re going to do awesome. All the best, Cheers Rick
I did my first behind the wheel driving with the driving school here in MD USA and he had an attitude before we got in the car, he kept yelling at me and that made me scared on not want to drive, I would make 1slight error and he would huff and puff and yell at me
If he’s with a driving school be sure to launch a complaint. If he’s a solo instructor, find another one. You don’t have to be subjected to that kind of treatment. Drop us a note if we can help further. All the best, Cheers Rick
@@smartdrivetest he’s the owner of this specific driving school, it’s only him and 1 other person that works there , so idk how I would make a complaint
You might try talking to him, or just go to another driving school. You need to be comfortable when learning to drive. It’s already difficult with out the added stress of someone barking at you!! Cheers Rick
Oh wow I took my exam down in Queens close to Rikers Island. I think you mentioned traveling in one of your livestreams but I forgot you were coming to NYC
Can't tell you how much I love this video because it's in NY. Welcome to New York Rick! I had a few driving lessons in Bronx, I practiced and took the road test there, and passed on the 2nd tried in September 17. I live in Manhattan and to find parking it's pretty much a nightmare, Not easy at all. I'm scared to own or get a car that for reason. I started watching your videos last year during the pandemic and the videos really motivated me to finally have a driver's license. Thank you so much!
That is an awesome story my friend. So glad that we could be part of your success story. Drop us a note if you have any questions. All the very best, Cheers Rick
That parallel parking should have been done on the previous street where you had a good space and cars infront and behind. I don’t thinks it’s legit otherwise
This instructor seems to be nicer ones out there who is clear about the instruction and most of the time I despise nyc examiners for playing tricks on you by giving you a late call or keep telling you what to do eventhough you anticipated that action so that it looks like there was too many examiners interference. Failed 2 times in nyc, third time, decided to get a NJ license and passed on first try (it was a walk in the park) . So for anyone out there tryna get a license in the tri state area, I suggest you try for Connecticut or NJ cuz there are no tricks but a clear simple instruction.
I failed four times already here in NYC. It's starting to piss me off. My instructor from the driving school says that my driving is great and he can't understand why the DMV instructor keeps dinging me for stupid nitpicky stuff. I need to get my license so I can move out of NYC since there's no public transit where I'm moving to but they're making it so damn difficult.
@@vinetail5735 I thought about that but I was told that you have to have proof of address for the city that you're taking it in. For example if I wanted to go to New Jersey to take I have to have proof that I'm living there. This is what I was told so I don't know if it's true.
@Angelus13AOV there's other dmvs in New York state you could go to. I live near Albany so typically I'd take it in Albany but I could take it in Troy or Rensselaer or whatever. You could take it at another dmv not in nyc
Hi Phyoe Han - And you are most welcome. We're happy to hear we could help out. If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick
Hi Dominic Mig - You're going to do awesome. Remember to breath; that will cause your body to relax. Good luck on your road test! Be sure to let us know how it goes. All the best, Cheers Rick PS - see this post BEFORE you head to the test centre: www.smartdrivetest.com/pass-drivers-test/pre-trip-inspection
This reminds me of Victoria BC there are so many small little teeny weeny streets especially in James Bay behind the parliament and it is a pain in the ass driving.
Backing up is the one time you can use one hand on the steering wheel. Putting your hand on the back of the passenger seat helps to get your hips around to see out the back window. Totally allowed for a driver’s test. All the best, Cheers Rick
Hi Mallory Atkinson - And you are most welcome. We're happy to hear we could help out. If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick
To Be Honest I do Drive Differrently Not as Precise as Taught in Driving School to Relax a Bit. Stayed Safe & Crash Free Till Now🚘🚘🚘🚘🚘😎😎😎😎 I'd Fail a Driving Test Right Away
At 5:26 --- his moving slowly to the right around that black vehicle just hanging out there would fail him? What would you do that would prevent your failing at that moment?
Moving around that black would NOT fail you on a driver’s test. If you wait for a bit and the car’s not moving, you will need to take action. You can’t stay there, especially if there’s room to go around the vehicle. The only thing you might do different is to beep your horn to alert the other driver of your presence. But that horn might spook the driver causing him/her to do something unpredictable. All the best, Cheers Rick
@@smartdrivetest Could be a little friendly toot. I failed partly for a strange thing I'd not seen (but I'll certainly never forget!) A Stop Sign, then about 1.5 car lengths after the Stop Sign the Stop Line. Since age 16 the idea of rolling past a Stop Sign feels totally wrong...so I full stopped at the sign, then crawling forward...my instructor must've thought I was gonna treat the Line like a yield and roll on thru and she yelled at me. She wouldn't tell me the proper thing to do; frankly she was perhaps the rudest person I've dealt with in a long time. In fact, are there two full stops there? Or can you roll past the Stop Sign and full stop at the Line?
Parking and not looking out the back window is considered very dangerous. The average road test in Suffolk county is about 6 to 9 min. over the speed limit automatic fail. of course you dont find out till after 6pm
Now I can tell Rick that I pass my road test first time in the Bronx and Rick failed his road test 🙃 jk anyways yeah the Bronx traffic is full of idiots and double parked everywhere!

I thought the car double parked on Jack stands (4:09) was madness.... That is.... Until I saw the other car stopped in the middle of the the turn with reverse lights ON (5:20) 😱 Whaaaat...
Sorry Buddies ... but here in Berlin Germany you would have failed like 20 Times ... You Guys turn without cheking "blind Areas outside of the Mirror-View" ... Not 1 Time you checked it ! In Berlin you would have crashed 20 Times Bicycles AND Pedestrians ! You drive backwards and look forward. If you drive forward - do you also look backwards ??? But if you drive backwards and look forward it is the same Logic ... What if a Child walks behind you coming from your back left ... or back right .. Or what if someone else parking out backwards and doesnt look either ??? It is shocking how People learn Car driving in other Countries. I have a lot Students from other Countries. And i really dont understand how the most of them survived until today ... By the Way - Germany is the only Country without Speed Limits in the "Autobahn" ( something like the Interstates in the US ) and it works very well. But i can imagine that beeing a Driving Teacher in your Countries is very easy and a relaxing Job.
