Instrument Cluster Color Change on BMW F30 (From Orange to White)

In today's video I'm going to show you how to swap/replace LED's inside instrument cluster.
I have done this mod on 6WA BMW Cluster, but it can be also done on the basic cluster (BKOMBI).
Mod is very easy and straight forward, you need some basic tools that most of people already have them.
Type of LED's to replace: 3528 White SMD LED

thanks i did it but i have a problem reset bouton is not working any more is there a connection between button and board i think dropped something by mistake

It’s possible to solder any wire on the leds to maintain they always on ? During the day it’s a pain to see the gauges

Great video, thank you! I would like to do similiar mod but I want digits to be white, and pointers to be red like in M3/M4. Do you know which LEDs needs to be red to change pointer colour to red?

Hi. Unfortunately you can't just swap LED's to have needles in red. Because LED's serve to illuminate background as well. That means if you install red LED's, background will be red as well - just like it was from factory but in Amber color. If you want red needles, you to either paint them or buy broken M3 cluster and swap needles.

Hi Ace! Do you remember how many watts did the leds had? Because 3528 is the size of the SMD led but no the power (watts).

Nice work!! Is it possible to buy LED which can switch between amber and white? And it‘s possible to change the colour by iDrive?

Hi. Thanks. It is possible to buy Bi-color SMD LED, but problem is, cluster it self isn't designed to have a color switch. To make bi-color LED work, you need 3 connections (wires) 1 - ground 2 - positive (white) 3 - positive (orange) and F30 cluster has only 2 connections per LED.

Ace320 my f30 changes the color of the lcd, during the day they are white, at night they turn orange, it would be awesome if it was like that on the cluster, during the day the gauges are white and during the night they are stock orange

Nice, on the idrive there is an option about sport or classic mode on ambient light, that changes the color on the trim below the AC controllers, maybe installing dual colors leds on the cluster and wire them on this light would work

For 6WA is the same process? I assume that because is only one color led, when on night the cluster is going on white again, I can set the brightness as well? Thanks

6WA is extended scope cluster (the one I used in the video) and BKOMBI is basic cluster with small board computer and yes, the process is the same and yes, you can change the brightness like before with orange LED's.

Ace320 thanks, but unfortunately as my car is 2015 I can’t code the cluster to remain on day, hence even if I change the leds, the extended display will turn orange... don’t think is any option to sort this out ...

I saw people done that, so it is possible. But I don't know what kind of LED's is required for the central console, they are not the same like in the cluster

I'm currently swapping all of the orange diodes to white and I can assure you, they are not all the same and it's a pain in the ass.

Great job Ace 320. Do the leds dim with the switch like the original leds? Did you buy dimmable smds?

Yes, they dim. Every LED is dimmable, bcs they are controlled by the resistors in the cluster, you don't need any "special dimmable LED"

@@Kufurbaz_haydo69 You need at least 12, but 100 LED pack is about 3-4 euros, so get that, if you mess up one of them, you have the replacement.
